Don't leave me hanging. I haven't home-brewed in a long, long time but I like a nice fresh traditional bitter and I'm tired of stale crap. So this weekend I'm making up a batch.

I'm going to make beer bread and drink the rest

Recipe

Ingredients
Serves: 12
3 cups (375g) self raising flour
3 tablespoons caster sugar
330ml beer

Preparation method
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 1 hour
1. In a large bowl, mix together the sugar and flour. Add beer and continue to mix, first using a wooden spoon, then your hands. Batter will be sticky. Pour into a 23x12cm greased loaf tin.
2. Bake at 180 degrees C for 50 to 60 minutes. The top will be crunchy, and the insides will be soft.

Son of a biatch! Why does someone always get the joke in before me?!

//Rhetorical question. STFU.

But here is an honest answer... I don't often drink beer, but when I do, it depends on the season. When it's warm, I love a good, solid, cold, Corona. If it's really warm, I don't even bother with a lime.
When it's cold, I go for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

No matter the case, if I can't be choosy with my beer flavor, whatever is being served has to be ice cold. If you insist on serving Miller lite, then chill that stuff to like 2 below 0. Because otherwise it tastes like grass clippings that have been sitting in the sun for 2 days. For the record, that is a 100% accurate analogy.

I'll be teaching a Pet CPR, First Aid & Care course at the Australian Canine Sports & Training Centre.

Two years here.

So Steak and BJ Day is also International Beer Day? What a happy coincidence! Isn't it also the start of Shark Week?

Is this where everyone pretends to like some obscure micro brew? I kid.

Two Brothers Outlaw. just got a 6th yesterday

2012-08-04 07:40:36 AM
Perhaps a Stone Ruination 10 year anniversary or a Summit Sága.

/who am I kidding, probably both

2012-08-04 07:43:15 AM
Schneiderweisse and Franziskaner (sp?).

Naming beers is like naming indie rock bands. First one to name a beer that someone else has heard of loses.

2012-08-04 07:47:16 AM
A nice micro brewed German Pils or Flander's red...

OH wait... you can't find one! everyone is brewing overhopped IPAs. They don't appreciate nor can correctly balance malt wiith noble hops as god intended it!!!

Stop the overhopping!!! No one wants 120 IBUs... beer shouldn't be an endurance exercise to see who can enjoy the bitterest PoS out there.

Same here. Krombacher Pils NA ain't bad for near beer, but it still ain't the same.

Will the Yuengling be the first one you crack? I'm leaning towards either Shiner 97 or Erdinger Dunkelweizen.

2012-08-04 07:52:01 AM
Can't believe nobody has mentioned the proper beer yet.

IRON CITY!

2012-08-04 07:56:59 AM
Since I'm in Cambodia, it'll likely be a good, cold bottle of Angkor. Or three. Or seven.....

2012-08-04 07:57:00 AM
Have some Wolaver's IPA in the fridge now. So, probably that.

2012-08-04 07:57:47 AM
New Glarus road slush. Like 1554, but not as cloyingly sweet and smoky.

I'm so sad that I only have one bottle left in the fridge - it was a very limited run - and now since it's going to be International Beer Day, I guess I'll have to drink it.

2012-08-04 07:59:16 AM
Pabst Blue Ribbon

Coincidentally, I'll be playing a show at the Middle East Downstairs tonight (Shut up, I'll be there after midnight) and I'm pretty sure that's all they sell. Well, that and vodka

/Why yes, this post is a shameless plug. Why do you ask?

Summit EPA.
If that runs out I'll dip into the wife's Leinie's Honey Weiss.
