The fall of the Berlin Wall happened well after the collapse of the Iron Curtain, and had little impact beyond Berlin itself. It was an anti-climax. The Soviets had already imploded in the mid to late 80s with Perestroika and Glasnost.

Cause and Effect. The wall fell because the soviets had already fallen, not the opposite. But regardless of the order, these events happened as part of the 80s.

You're spot-on with the importance of the L.A. Riots, but the Gulf War had already been fought in real time through 24 hour rolling news.

I listed the Gulf War as the beginning of the 90s, but not for the obvious political reasons that one would associate with war. The 90s started with the introduction of 24 hour rolling news -- not merely reporting events, but rather *controlling* events, and directly *controlling* public perceptions of those events.

Moonfisher: Not only do VHS predate the 90s, I still have about 100 of them and a great VCR. Clean that thing regularly and you won't get eaten tapes. I initially kept it for sentimental reasons, but now I let the kidlets use it. It's superior to DVDs when you have toddlers. They can't destroy a tape by covering it in fingerprints and scratches, they can change the movies themselves with relative ease, and if they drop or break them, I don't care. My sisters and I really put our Disney tapes through the ringer, and now they are still being viewed by my kids 25 years later.

My dad still has some home-recorded T-120's at EP my grandfather made for us grandkids when we were little. 6 freaking hours of classic cartoons per tape. You'd think the quality would suck greatly, but Gramps was a TV and video repairman (and possible mad scientist, dude was awesome). He must have done something to improve the recording, because the audio is clean with no hiss or pops, (It is a bit dull and lacks fidelity, understandable). The video is not as blurred, either. I have no idea what the hell he did, but those tapes are amazing. I won't say they were perfect, but they were not crap.

I still have the ~$30 halogen floor lamp my dad bought for my room when I was like 13. I've replaced the bulb twice and since it has working adjustable brightness, it is GOD amongst my lighting fixtures. The idiots who owned my house last put in ceiling fixtures that all have 3-4 bulbs and no adjustment controls, so they only get used when I'm looking for something...

Popeye, Merry Melodies, Tex Avery, Tom and Jerry, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, and Woody Woodpecker are the ones I can remember. Maybe the old Disney shorts would be the only ones hard to come by now.

Well, from what I have seen, the stuff on DVD is often edited to be more "sensitive" or "tolerant" or some other crap. I have recently been informed that Warner Bros is finally or has already released it's Bugs Bunny and Road Runner episodes that it had previously said would never leave the darkness of its vaults because they were racist against Japanese folks.

But that aside, if they contained commercials it would be a gold mine.

It's quite good. The animation is spiffy, the voices well-done, and the overall premise promising. I've missed the last couple of episodes, but I like what they've done so far. And yes, that hair is totally dork-tastic, but then, so is he. :)
