(AZCentral)   Apparently the good people of Arizona need to be reminded that it's not a good idea to play in runoff water contaminated with pet waste, pesticides, herbicides, auto fluids, and broken glass   (azcentral.com) divider line 51

The good people of Arizona haven't shown themselves to be very bright as of late. I'm from Alabama and I can point an laugh at you guys. You should probably be ashamed.

Maybe we should let Darwin step in?

Nah, anyone who needs to be reminded of that shouldn't be.

Just tell them there's fluoride in the water and they'll stay away. Maybe even try to burn it.

That's pretty much my first marriage in a nutshell.

This is an outrage. Kids shouldn't have to be exposed to pet waste, pesticides, herbicides, and auto fluids in order to play with broken glass...

I'm working on stormwater runoff in Michigan right now, getting a kick, etc.

Kids are kids seems to be the point of TFA. Kids are sometimes dumb. They're kids.

It's a stupidly hot day, you're exploring*, hey, there's a lake really-a-retention-basin-but-we-don't-know-that-or-we-don't-care, let's jump in!

* if they let kids do that anymore

It's okay for people to play in feces water as long as they don't have any physical sighns of cuts or if they make sure to keep their heads above the water to avoid ingenstion.

As for how you could mistake one for the other, even if it's obviously for drainage, kids be kids and it's freaking hot outside.

That said, while I don't know about AZ, I've seen drainage areas integrated into new developments that just look like a pond in the woods when full of runoff, or an actual proper lake simply with reinforced walls to protect the property around it... then you realize there isn't a name for that lake on the map and it's actually a drainage area that used to be a quarry. Two of those existed in one condo/small house/golf development I went to, and I was honestly surprised at how well they pulled off the 'nature did this' illusion. The wooded area that occasionally turned into a wooded area with a pond especially.

More Proof, Arizona has earned it's own tag. The whole state should be relocated to between Alabama and Mississippi.

Damn 0bama EPA tryin' to tell us we can't let our kids play in shiat filled water. What next? Try to tell us not to drink battery acid?

In terms of Fark articles, it seems to be the second most-often mentioned place in Arizona right after Maricopa County.

It might be ok. Caution is the key in situations like this..

From what I've seen from Arizona, I say let them play in the water contaminated with broken glass, sewage, and antifreeze. They deserve it

Ok, being from Surprise (as stated earlier) I would just like to clarify that this city went from about 0 to 120,000 residents in about 10yrs. It's all new housing out here and therefore the subdivisions were built with large parks/green belts that double as water retention when we get heavy monsoon rains. Now I honestly have never seen anyone ever playing in one when there has been runoff. Surprise is one of the safest cities in the US and therefore the police force and local government don't have a lot else to do but go into nanny mode. That's why you see friendly reminders from the city not to do stupid things. Honestly those warnings should be happening in Apache Junction or Buckeye.

2012-08-04 02:36:06 AM
Of course kids shouldn't play in it. That's their drinking water right there.

No, fark that. Arizona was a quiet 'live and let live' state until all you 'transplants' --including the religious nut jobs-- started invading from Cali in the late 80s.

Anyways, it's ruined now. So I left. Enjoy your basin.

This is the state where people also can't figure out that it's a bad idea to drive your car into running water when you can't tell how deep it is - or that it's a bad idea to be in a wash when monsoon is going. Last year a 400lb homeless woman (I have no idea how that happens) got swept away and had her clothes ripped off in the process. So all of Tucson got to watch on the news as her fat, naked ass was lifted out of the water by helicopter.

/stupid motorist law was by far one of the most intelligent laws passed by that state
//still glad I left it to the crazies
