(WTSP)   Tfarkette forced, pretty much at gun point, to write an article explaining memes for her day job, does a half-assed job and gives Fark a shameless plug. Which ones did she leave out?   (wtsp.com) divider line 136

You have some bad information early in the article - "meme" is actually pronounced "throat warbler mangrove".

Dr.Zom: Minor point - I think Star Wars kid intentionally filmed himself.

Good jerb otherwise.

Yeah, I already said so above, but it isn't fixed in the article yet.

You sleeping at the wheel subby?

Huh, I've always pronounced it like the French "même"--like "memo" without the "o" (such as the one I apparently missed).

Tfarkette ... does a half-assed job

tmo10:
Thanks, yes, feeling like my ass is hanging in the internet breeze right now so thank you.

Don't you mean half your ass is hanging in the breeze?

Wait a minute. Is a meme something that can come from the mass media, such as Ginger Kids? Or is it something more spontaneous and not anything "professional", that just happens to catch the general fancy of the usual suspects?

I vote the latter. The rest is advertising.

Thanks for using "prolly" which i feel totally justifies my constant use of the similarly misspelled version 'probly' all in the interest of saving two keystrokes.

Arkanaut: some internet class clown makes up something

Why do I get the feeling the first draft of this was missing the "CL"?

That's exactly what I thought it said the first time reading that sentence. ass clown not CLass clown. Good show putting your ass out there for us to help/poke fun at you.

Hmmm... I spell it "pro'bly," not really for the key stroke efficiency...just for funsies, I guess.

lol. I'm an idiot. fixing, thanks. and hoping i don't get fired.

Ha Ha green.. Also I respect your sites slide show interface! No more reloading the page for each slide.

The Fark Headline suggests you are explaining memes, hence all the unrelated suggestions here. That and there is know your meme for that. It seems like you are more focused on the memes being applied to the CFA issue. I assume this was the request, not to explain memes in general.

Your article looks fine, aside from the pedantic clarification that memes are being used to comment on CFA in this case, then CFA being a meme itself. Meme definition is pretty well clarified by the know your meme site.

You might want a few more supportive images, but I don't know where you would find them (facebook perhaps)

Gordon Bennett: Rich Cream: Wait a minute. Is a meme something that can come from the mass media, such as Ginger Kids?

How does that come from mass media?

Well, it was just a general derogatory phrase until South Park used it.

/but I realize a lot of things come from common experience, and that common experience is usually a media event.

NorCalLos: Sorry subs, but I think you and the writer shat the bed. Isn't a meme more of a theme than an actual picture or video?

Not anymore. A meme is no longer a shared thought or idea.

It is now a picture with words on it - ideally humorous in intent and presentation (but often neither).

Drives me farking crazy.

I am sooo tempted to send this to my fwd:FWD: FWD: family members. Typical white suburban Christians/ longtime listerners; first-time callers/ Fox acolytes. At least my mother went to a food bank once per year to sort out the expired items, but mostly to stock up on her supply of righteousness to be disbursed the other 364 days. Everyone else in my family was of the "fark you; got mine" variety.
