Where'd they get the chickens? From WalMart?

All they had were turkeys and guinea pigs. And wild pigs.

There is some evidence that the Araucana breed of chicken was present in the Americas a long, long time ago.

But not among the Mayans. Good bird, though. It's probably of Polynesian origin - but didn't make it to Hawaii or Maori-land. Do you know if they had chickens in Fiji or Tahiti (before Magellan)?

Fascinated with paleo-chickens.

Delicious, delicious molé.

1 cut-up chicken
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

1/2 c. oil
1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. chili powder
1 c. chicken broth
2 chicken bouillon cubes
1 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tsp. salt

Put chicken in large pot and cover with water. Add garlic, salt and pepper. Boil until chicken is done, about 45 minutes. Remove chicken and reserve 1 cup broth for gravy.

Put oil in large skillet on medium heat. Add flour a little at a time and brown, about 1 minute. Remove from stove and stir in chili powder. Dissolve bouillon cubes in broth. Put skillet back on stove and stir in broth. Add peanut butter and salt and mix with hand mixer. Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer 30 minutes, stirring often. Add chicken for 10 or 15 minutes.

That's chicken with peanut sauce. You need to find some Hispanic friends. Some molé sauces take days to make.

No, not really. Subby (and almost everyone else in this thread) misspelled "mole".

The word has just a plain old "e", with no accent, and it's pronounced MO-lay.

I just thought it was really cool I could cut and paste the accent. I don't get to do that every day. I know how to say it, just not spell it. What is it called when you aren't multilingual; in fact, you don't really know any language very well? Ignorant? In that I'm fluent. It's common and understood all over the world.

I was coming to ask WTF was with the peanut butter, but I see that's been covered.
ArkAngel- yeah, pretty sure that's some bull right there. Peanut butter and chili powder???
My fiance's mom makes him mole every few months. We do cheat and get mole sauce made at a local Mexican meat shop, but she also roasts all the peppers and everything. I once brought her Dona Maria and she laughed for a good ten minutes.
/Hate the taste of mole
