Plus, who knows what any given Yum-Brand share-holders opinions are on issues that I hold dear.

Well, as individuals, I couldn't say.

The CEO is David Novak. He is Yum's Chairman of the Board and also a director at JP Morgan Chase (which is not a point in his favor, though I suspect the shareholders love it since Yum turns acceptable proftis).

Yum's charity giving is directed mainly at world hunger - as in, education and elimination. Simple Google search will give you that information.

They've contributed to political candidates as well: Republican candidates admittedly do see more donation dollars from the corporation, but they donate to both Republican and Democratic candidates from a variety of states. Source

Simple thing with any company... if you do not like where the owners choose to donate, don't do business there. Or, if you really, REALLY like the product, donate an equal or greater amount to an organization committed to the opposite of what that business donates profits to.

That $6.50 pays for a meal. The entire amount does not go to whatever the owners choose to support because it is not all profit. And the business owner has every right to donate to causes he or she supports - just as you have every right not to support a business that supports causes you disagree with. Welcome to the free market economy. No one - not the business owner, not the customer, not any city mayor, and most certainly not the federal or state government has the right to tell any business owner that he or she may not support a cause because other people disagree with it.

Everyone in this country has a right to their opinion and everyone in this country has a right to disagree with that opinion. Get the fark over yourselves.

Yes because people are always honest in polls. They dont say what they really mean out of fear of being bullied and called names when they are polled in public. How many states have voted this issue down already? People are more honest in a voting booth. I was actually polled the other day by this automated phone call and I trolled it hard. I told it I was black, republican and voting for Romney. Just to skew the numbers enough to confuse the dipshiats who are looking for any glimmer of "hope."

*** pretend all caps, bold time ***

A lot of religion sucks. But only a certain percentage of the population is going to agree with that from a logical point of view. The rest of the population will either see this as an attack on themselves and their beliefs, the other half will totally agree because [insert list of religions and religious beliefs different from my own] are just fakes and their religion is made up.

This is some sage advice for you, religion. You are something of a dinosaur at this point. Unless you move towards inclusiveness and start to re-evaluate the lessons and morals of your beliefs, you are a dying breed. End of story. Focus on what you're truly good at, humanitarian efforts, financial aid, community support, comfort and safety. Turn a new chapter on the things you're infamous for, Hell and brimstone, exclusionary practices, hatred, shame and purgatory. What people need the most these days is a connection to other people, not fear, not shame not narcissism. Capitalize on that, and you've got yourself a winning ideology.

Honestly, the same goes for fast food, so in that way I guess Jesus is the equivalent of the Chick Fila sandwich. The pinnacle of all chicken sandwiches, so good, a chicken voluntarily sacrificed its life so that yet another filet sandwich could exist.

The right to get pregnant / get someone else pregnant is something of a natural right. Some people have it, some people don't. Some might even say having a baby is a God given right. But really, are "natural rights" God given? Are they something different? If they're God given, what about murder? I'm just as capable of murder as I am of reproduction. I bet the same goes for the vast majority of the human species. Does that make murder a God given right? I say absolutely not. Whether you believe in God or not, you do not have the right to murder someone else. And contradictory as it seems, those things which remain true, whether you believe in God or not, are those that truly classify as God given rights.

So, try to keep gay marriage illegal or refuse to eat at one of those restaurants. The result is eventually going to pan out like either ...
1) Prejudiced, ignorant and/or apathetic population keeps this company afloat.
2) Informed, interested, apathetic and/or ignorant outnumber those in option 1, company becomes unprofitable and no more Chick Fila.

bujin: Don't know either, but the Old Testament is what is currently used to justify anti-gay bigotry.... Since Jesus said zippo about it.

You need to look in the Book of Acts.

The Ten Commandments are Hebrew Law, and apply to the Jews. The people known as 'Christians' today were called 'Gentiles' back then, and were explicitly excluded from the covenant between God and the Jews which is represented by the Ten Commandments.

Jesus's death didn't turn Gentiles into Jews, but (according to Christian theology) created a second covenant with God that included both Jews and Gentiles.

The whole "okay, so what parts of Jewish Law are these 'Christians' supposed to obey?" was one of the big debates of the early church. The decision (recorded in Acts) was that Christians start with a much smaller set of rules than the Jews had, but "no fornication" was pretty much at the top of the list.

(Old joke I learned from a rabbi: Moses comes down from the mountain and says, "There's good news, there's bad news. The good news is that I was able to talk Him down to ten. The bad news is that adultery is still on the list.")

From the perspective of Christian doctrine, homosexuality falls in the same category as hooking up. Now, given that we're talking about a culture that executed people for adultery, it's pretty safe to say the original intent was pretty harsh.

We've moved on a bit in the past couple millenia though. Here in the European and American track, there have been several pivotal thinkers and doctrinal shifts, any of which was tantamount to heresy and damnation by the opposing side when it happened. By now, it's very hard to draw a direct line from the original precedent to a specific opinion today.

Some of the Christian opposition to homosexuality can be traced to the more exuberant periods of gay history. The whole "going down to the bathhouse for a volume discount on farking without bothering to take names" was -- let's face it -- a direct rejection of the social values generally associated with Christianity. Even today, that section of the gay community that wants to settle down in a lifelong relationship hasn't clearly distinguished itself from the section that treats sexual orientation as performance art.

One of the tenets of Christianity that both sides tend to forget is the requirement to make a distinction between the behavior and the person. The jargon is "hate the sin, not the sinner," but since that includes the word 'hate' it's induced assholery on both sides of any number of issues, gay rights being merely one.

That's actually a place where the gay community could stand to refine its message.. on the one hand, there's, "I don't want people to think 'gay' defines who I am," on the other, you have "'gay' is an integral part of who I am, so if you can't accept that then you can't accept me." It takes some careful parsing to avoid thinking those two statements boil down to "trying to have it both ways." Both messages could stand to be reformulated so the distinction between the underlying ideas is clearer.

I disagree with them politically and don't want to be associated with the anti-gay people, but I really want one of their sandwiches. Sure I can make my own or go somewhere else, but it just isn't the same.

I know what mean.

My wife and I stopped eating at Chick-Fil-A over a year ago when we learned how much money they were funneling to Focus on the Family. No fanfare, no bragging to our friends or family, no news crews or blog posts. We just said to one another, "You know, I think I'd rather we didn't help support FotF by eating at CFA, no matter how damn tasty their nuggets and waffle fries are." And we got cravings for the first month or so when we'd drive past, but we got over it.

Now I have to hear about Chick-Fil-A every farking day, and the hunger is driving me insane.

Can I do some kind of carbon-credit thing, where I maybe offset eating a 12-piece and large waffle fry by letting a guy cum up my ass afterwards?

You'd probably be more coherent if you had more information.

As above, for Christians, they're The Ten Really Good Ideas, but we're still encouraged to think about them before breaking them. WRT murder, see item 5 (or 6, if you like the older groupings).

.. and before anyone gets off on a tear about 'thou shalt not kill', it's a bad translation. The original word is closer to 'murder', which is distinct from the act of ending another person's life. 'Murder' is 'to kill unlawfully'. Soldiers don't commit murder if they're obeying the rules of engagement given to them by a higher authority. Contemporary law doesn't recognize killing in self defense or to protect the life of another as 'murder' as long as some basic conditions apply.

Since God is recognized as the source and ultimate judge of law in Judeo-Christian theology, there's no contradiction between God giving humans a commandment against murder (essentially saying, "you don't decide whether a killing is justified; I do") and God giving orders to kill.

.. and no, "the voices in my head told me to" doesn't fly. Hasn't for the past couple of thousand years.

But he had the wrong letter next to his name so gays voted against their own self interests.

Sorry, but I'm no fan of most leftist causes, either. I donate to organizations who provide food and clothing and shelter for the needy and I believe in equal rights for all. That doesn't make me a libtard or a republicoont- it makes me a follower of the teachings of Yeshua bin Yussuf.

/Or so I've read.

Yeah, because girls never get aroused by grinding on things.

Besides, all kinds of sex is impractical. All the fun kinds, anyhow.

Don't like gay marriage, dont have one. Dont like Chik Fil A, dont go there. Follow your own farking advice for once and "Get Over It!"

/dedicated to both side of this argument that have gone full retard*

*mentally handicapped for you uber PC Nazi's. See I made a concession why can't you?

We're not going to rest until homosexuals are allowed to eat at Chik Fil A with everyone else.

They are, aren' they? I didnt see any "Straights Only" signs at the one I went too. They did happen to run out of honey mustard sauce so I made a scene and called 911 to complain, because thats what you're supposed to do when a fast food joint runs out of something. They obviously knew I wanted some and they just so happened to run out when I got there, yah right, you expect me to believe that? Being a victim is a right!
