Black people are obviously very sensitive to things the rest of us aren't: images of monkeys, the cost of barbie dolls, not getting their fast food orders 100% correct, etc...

I think they deserve special treatment to accomodate their easily-offendable sensibilities. We should probably send them to their own schools, where monkeys are never mentioned in biology class, and where the lunch ladies will double check the nugget count of all the trays. And maybe they can have different water fountains too, so they won't have to "wait in line for the white man" to take his drink. And they should probably set in the backs of busses like an upscale passenger instead of in the front like a chauffeur.

Just a thought.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do will be used to prove you are racist. Your silence will also be taken to prove you're racist.

WhippingBoy's oversensitivity offends me. As does your sarcasm.

I demand satisfaction! *slap!*

Going by that logic, you would never accomplish anything. You could, at any point, offend someone for anything. You would be more gridlocked than the US gov't. I'm surprised you had the balls to post what you did living a life of fear of offending someone

Time for ye olde 90's anecdote, only vaguely related to what this discussion is about:

There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry and Elaine (and maybe George) were at the airport and decided to pretend to be someone named O'Brien in order to use that person's limo, but it turned out that O'Brien was a powerful white surpemacist and the limo took them to a White Supremacy rally right at the end of the episode. the last line was something like "Screw you, O'Brien!" It went to a commercial break, and the first commercial up was for an O'Brien Hyundai Dealership (in our local area) with the name flashing in great big letters across our cathode ray tube. It was quite hilarious.

Thus ends this tedious and boring anecdote.

That poor kid, what a stupid thing to have overshadow your win.

2012-08-03 02:58:09 PM
I don't think it had so much to do with Gabby as much as it did fading directly from a monkey doing rings to a black man in the exact same pose. There's no way that someone didn't say something between editing and airing that commercial. It was 100% intentional. They are looking for a little controversey to get the name of the show out there.

2012-08-03 02:58:23 PM
Sadly this overt and obviously well-planned provocation will be the catalyst for the Race War that NBC has been pushing for ever since Costas came onboard.

2012-08-03 02:58:47 PM
The people crying racism are probably the same ones busting on her for her hair.

32oz High Life: They're only saying that because Gabby Douglas is black.

Actually, that midget Costas said that she was African-American -- which notable reduces the significance of her win from 1 in 16 (16 winners since 1952, 15 white) to 1 in 4 (four Americans have won, 3 European-American).

denizens of the Internet are very mad at NBC this morning

Well first of all, duh, that's what the denizens of the Internet do.

Second of all I bet there are just as many, if not more, denizens of the net egging them on and recommending they put the monkey in the Olympics and denigrating further into welfare/Obama/xenophobic trolling etc. Wade out into the sewage that is most news commenting and it doesn't take long. We can't have nice things.

2012-08-03 03:01:30 PM
What the hell is this shiat?

2012-08-03 03:02:19 PM
So how did the monkey do? She looked pretty confident up there on the rings. Looked like she held her position and was spot on with the dismount.

What did the judges score? Anything below 9.2 would be anti simianic.

I saw that and thought "Bob, you meant to say black and it's a bigger compliment because it's not like there were Jamaicans and Nigerians that have won in the past and this is the first African-American."

Guys, this is obviously not racism. NBC isn't run by Republicans, and it proved its solidarity with the African American community several months ago when it edited the Zimmerman 911 tape.

I was expecting to read about some national organization that was objecting. Instead, I read that it's twitter users. It's not worthy of a blog post, and it's certainly not worthy of a Fark thread

I can see why some would be offended. And I dont think this has much to do about timing. And it could have been worse. If the monkey was dunking a basketball with the Team USA jersey on, for instance.

I'm white, and if they had a CGI Cheez-it cracker playing tennis I'd prob be a little offended.

Monkeys and crackers should probably stay out of all ads going forward.

This is what happens when liberals accuse every gop action or criticism on racism. I understand it is intellectually easier for you dems, but this is the end game. Every group finds slight in every action. How about real political arguments instead of imagined dog whistles from now on?

2012-08-03 03:18:37 PM
It might not been intentional or racist but I bet someone will be fired for being a dipshiat. Giving the Viacom and TBS the last few sensitive blacks you have left. This might be good in the long run for all lower income areas served by Comcast(NBC parent) as they might want to avoid PR damage and offer real cheaper intertubes.
/Yeah right about the last part
\Fark NBC for turning the Sci-Fi channel into the hot mess it is today.

Yes because the only conceivable way you could realize that cutting directly from a dude talking about there are thousands of other African American gymnists out there dreaming of reaching this point to a monkey doing gymnastics might possibly be problematical is if you are so paranoid you jump at shadows.

Are you farking retarded? They could show the Sopranos and splice it with Ragu and Super Mario brothers video game commercials and I wouldn't give a shiat. That cock stain Jimmy Fallon has a commercial right now where he's making fun of Italians by portraying a chef with a bad accent and making pizza. If he put in corn rows, spoke ebonics and was frying chicken there would be all sorts of outrage.

It's no different than the usual cluelessness that the commentators have been exhibiting all week. I still say that we need an SAP setting that is nothing but the sounds in the arena. No commentators at all. Now that, in HD, would be just like being there.

It HAS been pretty awful. The parade 'O athletes section alone was dreadful. They managed to imply that Kim Jung Il was kind of nuts while the NK team was marching past. He was, and we all know it, but this is not the time to bring it up. The drill is to comment on their star athlete and move on. They also brought up IDI AMIN during the Ugandans segment. The guy has been dead for 40 years and is a blight on mankind, buy why bring it up? There have been tons of things like this. Is it me or is it just getting worse.

This is the reason there is still racism.

Every time there is even the slightest imagined slight towards a black person, it's racist.
Talk about the boy who cried wolf. This is farking ridiculous. People are getting really tired of this shiat.

Or how about African-American? How frickin racist is that? I'm not Irish-English-American. I'm farking American.
