I'm not sure why he's crying though.

Was he like dinner-date buddies with the 2 of them?

At the risk of having Fark hipster spit-take their PBR, I find Will Ferrell humorous and entertaining.
Yes - I know he's the 230 lb glazed ham of low-brow/fart-joke cinema but damn-it-all, I larf out loud at his work.

Me too. I have never been entirely disappointed with his work. It is super-cool to hate on whoever is successful in comedy, I know, but I don't get the hate for Ferrell. People use Carlin as a model for how it should be done, but guess what? He had a schtick that he never veered very far from, and it worked. Just like Will Ferrell does, and Adam Sandler, and Zach Galifinakis, and Jim, Gaffigan...and on and on and on...Just pick one or two you like and leave everyone else alone in their choice I say.

Saw this yesterday and laughed my ass off. It's the same Ferrell shtick we've seen for years, but it's still funny as hell. And a great idea for a bit to do on a talk show.

Funny, painfully unfunny, funny, kind of funny sometimes.

He goes on very bizzare tantrums on Conan though. Sometimes funny, sometimes just bizzare. This is a perfect case, He was clearly making fun of people who actully care about this relationship in any real way that arent actually related to them by work, friendship, or kin but he never breaks character.

I don't know if I'd put the latter comics you've mentioned in the same echelon as Carlin, since he's been around forever and pretty much defined the genre of the intellectual snob yet cool humorist. Carlin hated the glorification of stupidity (which as he predicted, has only gotten worse over the decades) and his disdain oozed from every joke like pus from a suppurating wound. While Ferrell has his moments, the need for him to somehow equate screaming loudly with 'funny' with every joke grinds after a while.

Plus, you remove Judd Apatow from that formula and he's like a marionette with the strings cut. Much like Seth Rogen. No, I take that back, Rogen sucks regardless of who is directing him.

I felt the emotion. I could feel it down in my plums. Gettin' all ripe and swollen, with a bluish hue to 'em. Sunlight dancin' off 'em just nice. Gettin' ready to take 'em to the farmer's market. Special, two plums for one...

I still find it nearly infinitely amusing that Hollywood produced a major motion picture in which the central premise was that Charlieze Theron was jealous of Kristen Stewart's beauty

See that's the way I used to feel about Sandler, until he did things like Zohan, and Jack & Jill. I still like Sandler, but his movies are no longer an automatic must see for me.

Ferrell, well Ferrell I've never liked. The closest I've come to liking him was in the Jay and Silent Bob movie.

Will Ferrell is funniest when he is silent. Just like what John Stewart said about Steve Carrell. The staring, the nostril flare, the thrust out chin...a beat is a wonderful thing when it's done properly.

My problem with Will Ferrell is that his routine just got old for me. I mean, I laugh at his movies, but they all follow the same basic premise and he always plays the same character. This bit, while certainly funny. was just predictable. I knew exactly where he was going to go with. Ok, he's upset...now crying...well, he hasn't randomly switched to anger yet, so maybe-NOPE, THERE IT IS! Good Will Ferrell, always consistent!

I loved his older movies and his time on SNL, but his routine was fresh then. Now, he just does the same thing over and over and all I can think of is "I've seen this before. You're just playing the 40 year-old man child screaming angrily, making random references to substitute curse words. "

I mean, Carlin had a routine too, but his great talent was using wordplay to comedic effect. When he started on a topic, you could probably guess where he was going to go, but he was always original and unique in how his jokes were told. There's only so many times I can watch Will Ferrell be a big man-baby.
