Will finish dead last, occasionally with the gold medalist who finished three hours earlier cheering him on.

The build-up for these 2 was nauseating. Decker's last chance for gold before she shriveled into dust. The upstart south african, 16 and barefoot!
They tripped over each other before the 1st lap was over in what was comedy gold. The wife and I never laughed so hard in our lives!
Oh, the barefooted girl got up and continued while decker made agony of defeat faces,waved her arms for a flag, doing the Kerrigan pose before it was popular.
Look it up!

Zola Budd, it was pretty big news in South Africa at the time because we were banned from competing in the Olympics and, if I remember correctly (I was 9...), she competed in English colours. The aftermath here was many articles showing photo's of Budd continuing the race in spite of her feet/calves being punctured by Decker's spikes, in contrast to Decker's howling, horse-faced melodrama.

That was an astonishing marketing fail. Of course, I don't remember which one failed to qualify.
