I'm a couple hundred yards from a cell tower and I can watch the signal fade out and come back. 2-3 times an hour.

Maybe we should all stop giving the mega-corporations our money for this service that they monopolize....?

My cell phone service at home has been nearly non-existent at home since Sprint decided to do "tower maintenance" in my area in the middle of May. Constant dropped calls; text messages arriving two days later...

/fark Sprint
//I think they simply shut off all the Nextel towers in my area and called it 'maintenance'

Oh be quiet! You have a mobile phone! A phone you get to take with you anywhere you go! You don't have to wait till you get home to make phone calls! Do you have any idea how wondrous that is?!?

Funny story, I was JUST on the phone with a friend, 5 dropped calls in 10 minutes. I'm with AT&T of course, and my contract is up in October. After 6 years of great service at my old place, I can't send a text or make calls at my new place. I checked the maps and Verizon has service in my neighborhood.

If you're using an iDEN-based phone, you'd better update soon - the old Nextel network is going away completely.

My own Sprint CSB: a year or so ago, I was going to give Virgin Mobile (which is really a Sprint sub-brand in the US) a try. In spite of what their coverage maps showed, I couldn't get a signal, and thus couldn't even activate the phone. Back it went, and at least I got a full refund.

All choices for cell service suck. They just suck in different ways.

In my case, it's when my phone falls out of my hand, and onto the floor.
