Apparently there was a dumpster fire which caused the lights to melt.

Yeah, it's pure hell here. Most of the people here deserve it, though.

All I know is when I look at the weather app on my phone and I see something like this:

sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net

It just ruins my whole week. And I spend like 90% of my time indoors. When I was a kid, every time the bank thermometer got up around the 104-105 range, someone would go get their picture taken standing by it dressed in a winter coat for a joke. Now that's our average high for like a month straight.

FACTS? Sir it is a FACT that the earth has been getting hotter in the past century or so. It's a LOT hotter now than in 1700AD:

I think the question is why are YOU associating YOUR global warming theory to a local heat wave, which in turn is unrelated to melting street lamp covers?

Seriously, if these people believed for even a moment that a heatwave melted glass, it's no longer a mystery why they believe in catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (due to 5% of CO2 concetration)... they are idiots.

Several KFOR viewers are claiming that a dumpster fire caused by the heat led to the melting of the lamps and not the heat itself.

See its not global warming, its that burning garbage!

Sometimes its just better to let the weather take credit for it.

One look at that story and I thought " So the lamps can handle the heat of the bulb fine, but not 115deg heat during the day?". Something is not right there.

Texas went through this last year. 90 days of 100+. July '11 had only 2 days below 100. August had zero.

I had to work outdoors in the full sun on a 112 degree day, it was draining. You get through it. Trees suffered mightily though. Killed millions of them by some estimates, some 10% in the entire state.

read about this delightful little running competition known as the badwater ultra-marathon... it's amazing what the human body can be trained to withstand.

Covering 135 miles (217km) non-stop from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA in temperatures up to 130F (55c), it is the most demanding and extreme running race offered anywhere on the planet. The 35th anniversary edition will be held July 16-18, 2012.

There are so many global warming deniers here (science deniers all around really) that it's kind of awesome poetic justice. It just keeps getting hotter and hotter for longer and longer. You can actually watch our lakes evaporate.

Stupid has a price and Oklahoman's are deep, deep in debt.

No, it's not that hot at all, what was it, like 118 or something there, everything is normal, nevermind that the heat caused the fire that made the lamps melt. Didn't all of Greenland's ice melt last month? Nothing to see here, totally normal. I predict that in the winter there will be insane storms and record cold temperatures, colder than ever, and that there will be people saying, well, it IS winter right?

It's different when you also have humidity. Just came back from vacation in Buffalo, NY and 85 there is a swampy nightmare. Here in Okey 100+ is actually not bad if you stay out of the direct sunlight (which hits you like a hammer).
