I've never even heard of Herald.net. Why do they have their own Fark image?

The PBS travel dude? There's no way you can have an ounce of hate for that guy. I mean, he's Rick Steves! The guy puts out some seriously awesome/educational shows.

We watch the Rick Steves European Christmas every December. Is this the GOP beginning their own War on Christmas?

No doubt, he's just about the coolest nerd on the face of the earth.

A Rick Steves book once got my ass outta Umbria and back into Rome. I support him like the bra that holds up your mother's sagging tits.

The GOP isn't opposed to Rick Steves promoting voter education, they're opposed to ANYONE promoting voter education.

I'll bet he is. Saw a special episode where they show what goes into making an episode. These guys know their sh*t. Sure, it's condensed, it's television. But, I always learn something new when I watch. I'd love to hear some of his stories that never made it to air.

I do make fun of how he talks, but only his name. "Hi, I'm Rick Steeeeeeeeeeeeves!" With a lisp. heh... Only because it makes me smile because I have the intellect of a 12-year-old. He's a great dude and this prick needs to leave him alone.

LEAVE RICK STEVES ALONE!

Here, here. This guys books, podcasts, and forums helped me plan a great trip to Italy last month. It was a lot of fun to hit the local places he recommended.

He works for the 2nd largest drain of our tax dollars, PBS. (Planned Parenthood is #1)
He smokes weed.
He supports voter rights.
He talks like a gay.
He goes to places not in America.

I can see why Conservatives might hate the guy.

Yep, same here. I was in Italy by myself and had only Rick's book to get me through. I highly recommend him to fellow travelers.

Republicans really, really hate free speech.

CSB time: I was at hempfest ('09 maybe?) for some reason. I don't know why, that place always makes me feel old. But Rick Steves was going to give a lecture after some reggae band finished their set. I go to the stage a bit early and see ol' Rick dancing his little heart out on stage with the band. Precious.

Also he publically states that he only uses marijuana in places where it's legal or tolerated. I've heard that he actually sticks to it, and doesn't indulge whilst in the US. Maybe that's why he's always in the Netherlands and Portugal.

Why am I not surprised that it's a fat guy who is whining.

I'm guessing it has something to do with Rick's fondness and advocacy for the Evil Weed.

I misread the headline, thinking Rick Steves was either a republican or supporting a republican, and was about to have a serious sad.

"I find it completely inappropriate that someone who has taken a very public stance in trying to influence voters for both a candidate and an initiative now be on television teaching people how to vote on their ballots," Wilbur wrote Huff.

Yes, it is so inappropriate for someone that is politically active to tell people to become more politically active.

I consider myself pretty conservative and I have no problem with any of this, or him. Other than working for PBS, I do, sometimes do, used to do, all of these things and I like his shows

Of course he's too political. He put that word on the title of his farking book!

Except for right-wing radio host John Carlson, who also cut 'Get Out the Vote' radio ads.

"If (radio host John Carlson) had given $350,000 to John Koster or if he had signed a fundraising letter for Rob McKenna, it would bother me," he said.

So to recap:

Right-wing radio host cutting GOTV ads == fine
Left-wing TV personality on a non-political show cutting GOTV ads == WHHHHBBBLLGGRRRRBBL!

I wouldn't want to make enemies with Rick Steves. You don't want to know what he's done in seedy bars in Genoa or Budapest at 3:30 a.m. Seriously, you don't want to know.

It's the newspaper for Everett, WA. Numerous Fark headlines have come from this town.

I'm slightly disturbed how many Farkers are also fans of PBS travel shows.

Largely because my dad has the DVD sets....

Are you one of my daughters? Stop it. No one needs to know that I support PBS.

Delay: Are you one of my daughters?

Unlikely, since my dad hasn't used a computer since before the invention of the WWW.
