randomjsa: Everyone has worked with somebody like Obama. Nothing is ever their fault. They've always got an excuse for it and are ready to assign blame to everyone but themselves. Yet at the same time the person who is never responsible for anything when it doesn't work out will be right there to remind you how important they are when something does work out. You've never seen anyone who is simultaneously responsible for everything and nothing until you've been introduced to Barrack Obama.

Nice bit of projection you got going there. With you guys it's all about magical thinking. Never anything specific about what Obama has done wrong, or right, and the firm belief that the guy on 'your side' will do better, cause he's a conservative and tough and serious and stuff.

Me if you get me drunk, I can go on about stupid shi'at Obama did wrong. Vain attempts at real politic to appease the Washington establishment, that basically doesn't nothing but alienate his supporters. Attempts to work through a broken legislative process instead of do an end run around it. Re-appointing Ben Bernanke as the head of the fed instead of firing his butt. Not doing recess appointments to open chairs. His Treasury Secretary is a Milquetoast republican. And he's definitely not a decisive leader in a role that requires it.

One the other hand, Romney's history shows him as mostly a corporate parasite. So while I'm not happy with Obama, I'm sure not going to vote for Romney. Truth is, I'm not sure what he'd do in office, might force the Republicans to impose better fiscal policies or he might go full tax cuts and austerity like in Britain.

But really I'm less unhappy with slimy politicians than I am with American voters, who remain willfully ignorant about government, economics, and policy, and unwilling to think about politics in anything other than 30 second sound bites. Everything in Washington is the voters fault, and especially guys like yours fault.

Well.... my insurance provider is now required to give me equal coverage under the same policy as a man, so pretty awesome, actually.

It's unfortunate that President Hopey McChange (respect the office, you farker) has such a deep respect for the legislative process that he's not willing to break the law to get his agenda passed, unlike his predecessor. If he were willing to, we would have a jobs bill and a budget that funds infrastructure improvements and basic research. You know, so all those kids going into debt for college can get jobs.

But please, tell me, how is Governor RMoney going to make it better?

Pretty much dead on the farking money there. Now cue the moron who is going to TIPE IN ALL CAPPS WITH MIZPELT WURDS BECAWZE they don't have a coherent argument to refute this process that we see every month.

Face it. You elected a damn dud and he brought his buddies with him...

Why bring Bush into this? The economy sucks now for the same reason it sucked in the Carter years...the prior guys in office put a ten-year war on the national credit card, and now the bill is due.

Wars, like any government program, cost money: if you won't sell bonds or raise taxes to pay for them, you pay for them in other ways.

Now cue the idiots who think we've already paid for the Iraq War...

I'm a Republican with a stable job. I want Obama to lose re-election. And I know that high unemployment definitely makes it likelier that Obama loses.

But I can't bring myself to feel any silver-lining-joy at this news. Sustained unemployment is a depressing storm of life-ruining shiat for millions of people. I'd rather have low unemployment than for Romney to gain an upper hand from the bad economy.

Dexterman: lennavan: So when an entity, composed of a group of elected politicians, actually wants the economy to do worse so they can gain politically, we can absolutely begin to point fingers. You see, it's one thing to be doing your best and fail. It's a completely different game to actively pursue failure. It's okay to be upset at the people actively pursuing failure for our country.

So yer blaaaaaaaaming.... the Republicans, right? Just checking...and I agree, some of the finger pointing should absolutely be directed at them.

/assume yer just forgettin' about those first 2 years with full run of the House, Senate and the White House?

For those first 2 years, Obama had 60 seats in the Senate for a total of about 4 months when you take into account Ted Kennedy's death, the delay in seating Al Franken, and the party switch of Arlen Specter. Once Scott Brown was seated in 2010, the Republicans had the 41 votes to obstruct every piece of legislation that they wanted.

And with that said, take a look at the unemployment numbers in the month before the stimulus passed and the month after the stimulus. Obama did a lot to fix the economy in the time he had, but the Republicans have been sitting on their hands since.

In the 2004 election at this point the unemployment figure was 5.5% and the Democrats were running ads against Bush telling us how horrible he was and look at all the job loss.

The same period for Obama comes in at 8.3% and the Democrats can't stop telling us what a fantastic job he's doing and how it's not his fault.

Everyone has worked with somebody like Obama. Nothing is ever their fault. They've always got an excuse for it and are ready to assign blame to everyone but themselves. Or, we could talk about what happens in the real world.

1) Report numbers based off of a survey of households
2) Media reports numbers, good or bad
3) Revise numbers as improved data, either up or down
4) Media includes a footnote about revisions when they report monthly job numbers
5) Job numbers go from 750K jobs lost per month to 28 straight months of private sector job growth.

Then of course, there's the political reaction to the jobs numbers.

1) Campaign by calling President a failure
2) Promise to make jobs priority 1
3) Get a Republican majority in the House
4) Read the constitution, hold 33 votes to repeal the PPACA, attempt to ban abortion, and redefine rape
5) Obstruct every bill that might actually create jobs
6) See step 1.

-Enforce balanced budgets on pain of a general recall of legislators, watch a budget get passed.
-Deregulate lots of industries, watch the economy take off.
-Dismiss all patent lawsuits currently in progress, ignore all new suits for 5 years, watch the technology industry take off.
-Dismiss all copyright/trademark lawsuits currently in progress, ignore all new suits for 5 years, watch the arts industries boom.

At some point you have to decide that it's gotten bad enough, and you'll do anything to fix it. At that moment, deregulation in the past sounds a heck of a lot better than handing more power over to clearly incompetent leaders who haven't improved anything. The only problem is that now you've gone too far down the road and now everyone somehow wants to vote for more morons to keep their office because the other moron they might disagree with more.

It's much easier to take choice away from an educated and armed population by convincing them of limited options, than outright denying them choices. If someone tells an American to do something or else, they generally respond quite badly. If someone tells an American, "well, you've got two choices, bad, and worse," they generally accept and chose. America has been convinced of the nonsense of limited options for decades now. When I started voting I had grown adults chastising me for voting for 3rd parties, telling me I was throwing my vote away. I consider those adults to be the primary reason America is where it is right now. I see Americans continue to believe that their options are just getting more limited by the day.

That tells me something, it should tell you something.

Please, just vote out the incumbents at least, none of them have earned the right to return.

Woops. I was wrong. It ticed up to 4.6%. Sorry, my bad.

Among the state's 88 counties, the June 2012 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 4.6
percent in Mercer County to a high of 13.0 percent in Pike County. Rates increased in 85 of the
88 counties. In June, the comparable rate for Ohio was 7.4 percent. (See table below).
Seven counties had unemployment rates at or below 6.0 percent in June. The counties with the
lowest rates, other than Mercer were: Holmes, 5.1; Delaware, 5.2; Union, 5.7; Auglaize and
Putnam, 5.8; and Erie, 6.0 percent.
Ten counties had unemployment rates at or above 10.0 percent during June. The counties with
the highest rates, other than Pike were: Meigs, 12.0; Scioto, 11.1; Morgan, 10.7; Adams, 10.6;
Clinton, 10.5; Noble and Vinton, 10.4; Jefferson, 10.2, and Coshocton, 10.0 percent.
EDITOR'S NOTE: These estimates, prepared in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, are based on 2011 benchmark and geared to county of
residence. Unemployment rates for all Ohio counties as well as cities with populations of
50,000 or more are presented in the monthly ODJFS Civilian Labor Force Estimates
publication. For updated statewide historical data visit http://ohiolmi.com/asp/laus/vbLaus.htm
or contact the Bureau of Labor Market Information at (614) 752-9494.
July 2012 unemployment rates and nonagricultural wage and salary data for Ohio will be
released by ODJFS on Friday, August 17, 2012. County, city and metropolitan area
unemployment rates will be available on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. This information and the
monthly statistical summaries it is based on are also available at http://jfs.ohio.gov/releases.

It's wierd. This county I work in has an unemployment rate at below 4.5%. There is a corporation 20 minutes from here that desperately needs 200+ workers and are begging for workers. Problem is, the 4.5% that is unemployed are either unemployable or do not want to work. These jobs start out at $13-$15.00 an hour (non skilled). If you can operate a lathe or weld, the starting pay is $19.00 an hour.

There is another place nearby that make Honda engine blocks. They pay well also and are working their people 65-70 hours a week because they cannot find enough good workers to fill the pay roll.

This shizz gets so confusing, especially when partisan blogs are actively trying to confuse you.

They list the number of new jobs created, and the lie and say it is a high number.
They report the unemployment rate, and lie and say it is a low number.

Then they revise the jobs down and unemployment up every week until the next report comes out.
