The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Thursday the chief executive of the Second Mile, David Woodle, says the organization is dropping plans for the probe into what past leaders knew and when. Woodle says the organization is "in a different situation now" because it's "getting ready to go out of business."

The Second Mile wants to turn over its assets to Houston-based Arrow Child & Family Ministries Inc. Lawyers for some people who say Sandusky abused them are opposed.

When they'll reform as a new corporation to try to evade prosecution.

Someone needs to investigate these guys, and fast. The Paterno family and Penn State were hip-deep in money laundering through Second Mile, the story goes thats one big reason why Joe kept his mouth shut about the Tickle Monster.

So, not going to do an internal probe for ethics because it's in the process of being sold off, eh?

I wonder how the next owner feels about being left holding the bag?

I read through some of their public records and stories regarding that charity. It looked bad to me, so I welcome a much more through investigation into it.

The first part, I'll buy as plausible. The money-laundering stuff though, I've got to call citations or bullshiats. Laundering for what, exactly?

Yeah- this thread is in serious need of citations, or it just sucks the big one. As far as any charity stupid enough to risk its cred in any dealings whatever with Second Mile......then they don't need to be around either.

2012-08-03 11:02:35 AM
You know, you figure if penn state knew Sandusky was a pedo, second mile had to have known - they were supplying him with boys. So this is bullshiat, IMHO. Somebody is doing a good job at the ole CYA over at Second Mile.

Unfortunately, the penn staters will all say "but but but........ OMG CONSPIRACY", all while completely failing to recognize that two wrongs doesn't make a right. It's only going to make the fans look worse when they rant about this.

So yes, SM probably knew about this as well. And no, that does not mitigate Penn State's involvement in the least. You're still a bunch of farkers who overlooked child abuse in favor of the Penn State "brand".

Normally I would laugh and agree but since they're underage, I am just stating I had nothing to do with it. Nothing at all. True fact.

There was a story about some bullshiat land deal the charity was pulling so a lot of people could vanish over super rich but I don't know if it was fact or not, and don't have the links anymore.

Sandusky set this "charity" up for one reason and one reason only. To get a pool of boys from which he could groom and rape some of them. Anything else was just a side show.

This is both disappointing and unsurprising; The Second Mile has a lot of questions to answer and I'm thinking that they're doing this to dodge civil suits. How charitable. I do feel bad for the actual good folks that had no knowledge whatsoever of child rape that have no doubt worked for The Second Mile over the years. What a stain on their resume.

It would be nice if the repeated-as-truth money laundering and victim-peddling claims were backed up with something other than "I heard it on Fark in every thread." I'm not saying they couldn't be true, but evidence is always appreciated.

Sung as a operetta.

I just hate you
And I just hate you
Don't even wonder why don't open your eyes I just hate you.

You took advantage of all those boys
You made it sound like they were just toys
No matter what what they put in
You'd still put your part in

You didn't care that what you did was wrong
As long as it got yooooou forwaaaard

But they still hate you
You've won your war but they still hate you
You've made them toys that only you can play with
And anyone who says a thing can feel your wrath.

You pedophile-enabling myopic Penn State cultists have a real problem with truth and justice. Neither you nor I have any idea what has "...any basis in fact." That's the reason for investigating.

I want to know why Penn State protected Sandusky, why a DA went missing, where the money went, etc. And if it brings more shame to that shiathole, so be it. Some things are more important than multi-million dollar football businesses.

I read their news release, back in November or so. Not exactly long on details or traction. Big on grandstanding, though, which is something I usually look for in my investigative journalism. There's a huge difference in asking for evidence or proof of a crime and the assumption that that evidence won't be believed.

But the claims in this thread are reaching legion-of-doom, super-criminal descriptions. Such things deserve evidence if they're going to be trotted out.

Ebenator: WTF? Where do you get this?

It's all just rumor. Rumor based on the fact that there were business dealings going on with failed real estate developing between at least Paterno, Schulze, and board members of the 2nd mile.

Pops

While it is just a rumor, it is one that seems (at least to me) to make more sense than "because football" as a reason to cover up for Sandusky. The football program doesn't really suffer if they turn Jerry in. If these guys turn Jerry in and he sings like a canary about the dirty money dealings (if indeed there were any) involving the 2nd mile, its board members, and the Farktard Four... now there's a reason to run this coverup. Then there is the speculation that Corbett is somehow involved...

I've seen nothing that substantiates any dirty business dealings, any money laundering, nor any direct involvement by Corbett. However, considering the now apparent track record of the individuals involved (at least the individuals we know of thus far), it would not surprise me in the least if this went WAY beyond the school and involved government figures, prominent business figures, etc.

It's why I think the NCAA acted too quickly (Note I didn't say too harshly; depending on the results of all the ongoing investigations maybe they deserve harsher penalties)... we don't know the whole story and it really could end up pointing to something entirely different than "because football". Of course, it could all end up pointing right at the football program too. We just don't know yet. Too much rushing to judgment in this whole mess. People on both sides need to simmer down. No more kids are getting raped. We can afford to take a little time to get to the bottom of this before we start meting out punishment.

Just because you read an article on MSNBC doesn't mean that you have to engage in their same lack of sources "we make this shiat up as we go along, but hey it's our opinion so it's cool" reporting style...

All the evidence thus far shows that Sandusky flew solo on this mission. The fewer people who know, the less chance that someone will talk.

Analysis for what it's worth: No one wanted to believe that Sandusky was not only gay, but liked 10-12 year olds (presumably because he wanted to find a "special" one to groom into a long term lover, but that's me playing psychiatrist to a man I've never met). He fooled a lot people for a lot years. How? Not a single report of any sort of incident involving a PSU player even though he was around young, naked, hard bodied male athletes for decades. Married, with kids and didn't look the part. Genuinely seemed to care about the boys and went well above and beyond with generosity both in terms of his money and his time. Of course Paterno didn't want to believe it and figured it must be some sort of colossal misunderstanding. Jerry must not be thinking right and just needs some help...no one actually saw anything they just heard stuff, right? By the time the carefully crafted smoke screen that Sandusky put together collapsed, a lot of boys were hurt.

The Freeh Report is full of stuff that screams PEDO only after we know Sandusky is a pedo. It's rebaked news reports, captain obvious advice mixed with some apparent hatred of big time college athletics, and has gaps in information in it so large you could drive a truck through it, partially because people were uncooperative (Second Mile included), partially because Freeh had already decided who the guilty people were and wanted to make sure we knew. I could have written the Freeh Report after spending a few days cruising Google--Penn State should have gotten better and the NCAA should have insisted on all the facts before passing down judgment. Witches burn however, they don't deserve justice.

Want the truth? Start offering immunity from prosecution and watch some of the silent birds start to chirp. Could be they'll only tell you what's I'm saying now...that Sandusky was a very clever actor and there was no conspiracy, just a lot of people living in denial.

Ugh. I hate that my mind went there months ago when I learned of second mile and the mess. Up till then I had no idea what was going on.
I'm not sure why that thought of him pimping out children was the first reaction to hearing he had a charity, and brought young boys along with him when he traveled from hotel room to hotel room, watching football games...

In any case, it's repugnant, even if our speculations turn out to be incorrect.

I would much rather that this turns out to be the case.
Perhaps the damage would be less?
I don't know. I guess the only point of view that matters is each individual child's experience- everyone deals with things differently.
The one thing we're sure of is that this man was not acting like a man. More like a monster- which makes me ask- how can you live with one in your life?

Whatever happened to Sandusky and/or PSU being connected to the disappearance of the PA District Attorney or something? His car was found next to a river and his laptop missing the hard drive was found smashed weeks later. I heard there was some connection but never really heard more about it.

You don't. But Sandusky wasn't a monster to those who thought they knew him, he was Jerry. Think back to all the reports of spies who lived double lives. People who mostly kept to themselves but were polite only to turn out to have a dozen or so bodies buried in the backyard and the neighbors had absolutely no clue. The guy who travels a lot for business and turns out to have two families in two different cities totally unaware of each other.

Do we really know anyone? How do you know if the guy serving you a latte at the coffee shop isn't a serial rapist? Are you sure? You can't think that way, else you won't ever trust anyone ever again.

By the time the dust settles, the NCAA will kill this program and wipe out the records going back to 1977 (when Second Mile started).

Seriously, Penn State Defenders, if JoePa didn't blink at his buddy ass-raping little boys in his own locker room showers, why do you think he'd blink at paying players, covering other crimes, laundering money from boosters, and even supplying kids for sex to donors?

True, very true.
Excepting one thing. McQueary saw a child being raped. He told Joe. Joe obviously told his superiors.
They restricted his access to the school, and got rid of him on their paystub.
And apparently, that's all they did.
I'm pretty sure these are considered facts now, after the Freeh report.

So, yeah. Maybe you're right and they lived in a state of deep denial. Maybe Sandusky was a master of disguise. He sure didn't have to work too hard to cover it up.
Many people involved let it happen. Why? Who knows?

So you ask, do we really know anyone?
No, not really, but some folks have patterns you can see.
But if you're equating that with undue paranoia over folks we interact with, you've got a problem.
Those are tangential relationships, barristas and check-out clerks.
That has nothing to do with the relationships all of those people shared with Sandusky.

Based on instinct, I trust some people right away- others, well, never.
But I'll usually trust someone as a default position. Once that trust is broken, we'll see where we can go from there.
I can think that way. As a matter of fact, I think we all have a 'darkness' piece of our nature that we all guard against, lest we hurt someone. Sometimes reconciling that within yourself takes some form of you damaging yourself.
I also believe that there are people that biology has provided with shiatty brain chemistry that renders them unable to feel emotion. Sociopaths, if you will. Blahblahblah.
And I still trust people.

He's not gay, he's a pedophile. He's not interested in adult men, he's interested in prepubescent boys.

The Freeh report has gaps due to the lack of subpoena power but so would any investigation done by the NCAA. Presumably law enforcement will continue to investigate but that could take years. Perhaps further NCAA sanctions should follow, but what we are sure of is that Penn State covered up for a pedophile for more than a decade and there's no reason to delay punishment for that.
