But this is where the crappy chopped up showing comes in.... The girl was bandaged bruised and bleeding, but from what? That floor routine could have been heroic for that girl depending on what she did earlier to get those wounds.

wait...what??

Her right knee was ace bandaged pretty good, and the top of it, right around her knee, was bleeding through. That, and it looked like her lower right leg was bruised and visible through the sheer tights.

Indeed. And I totally think Ally should have gotten the bronze with Mustafina. And you'd think Komova had been pushed off the beam and given a moldy sock instead of the silver.

Well...Komova was in worlds last year or something and I'm pretty sure she got beaten by i think a tenth of a point by Jordyn Weiber, the girl just keeps losing by the barest of margins.

That guy really has a hunger to ruin these Olympic games.

I am on the fence about this.

Although in the right context this is funny, I think it is obscure enough that it will just come across as really offensive. I'd prefer to see references that come across as non sequiturs if you don't get them, as opposed to horribly racist.

It's fark though, the fact that he can pull off one that is obscure enough, fits the context perfectly, and gets people is good enough for the silver.

I believe in the sanctity of the Olympics (and sports in general). It would have been ok in a normal thread, it would have been ok in one of the "ZOMG NBC COVERAGE IS shiat!!!!EVELVINTY!!!" threads, but this one is different. Don't shiat in a good sports thread, there are plenty of other places to do it.

/WWE is not a sport, belongs in the politics tab, and should be openly mocked

Drop the lowest scored element. They both scored lowest on the beam so both of those scores got dropped and the American was behind on the other three.

The rule is, if there's a tie, they drop the lowest score from the four routines from each. And whoever has the most points wins.

Which, btw, makes no f*cking sense to me. This is the overall competition, so apparently if you suck at one routine more than another person, you win the tiebreak?

Give them both medals, you assknobs.

Rather than allowing ties (and duplicate medals), the tie-breaker is to drop the lowest score from each person. In this case, the balance beam for both got dropped, and the difference in scores for the other 3 rotations put Aly to 4th.

The Russians girls are very talented, their teams are legendary, but they have made some crucial mistakes in these games. Talent alone can't win you a medal. Those mistakes are costly. Team USA and Gabby Douglas earned their gold medals based on talent and performance.

msupf: Poison Appleseeds: msupf: Joe_diGriz: Poison Appleseeds: The 2016 games in Rio will only be an hour ahead of EST. So we've got that going for us.

And NBC will still manage to screw up the opening ceremony.

Ceremony? How about the whole thing. They'll find ways to tape delay events because they will be better ratings and commercial price getters.

Well, NBC paid $1.2 Billion for the rights to these Olympics. I don't blame them for trying to make that back. But they've done a horrible job. They get it all wrong. Like all media, I think the model has to change to fit the times. Why would I people care about watching the over-dramatized prime time broadcast when the results are posted on the homepage of every internet browser in the country the afternoon before?

Show as much as possible live, and when you can, do replays of the big events for people who don't yet have DVRs or othe recording devices. Beyond that, they need to make sure to have start times of events clearly stated on the tv schedules so people know when things are on. I'm tired of just having this 5+ hour block with half a dozen sports listed, and the two I want to watch are sandwiched in between events I'm not that into, and only get 10 minutes each of air time because an American isn't in medal contention.

In the end, I think it's going to come down to the IOC having to justifying the enormous fees they charge for the broadcast rights. As long as it costs over a billion dollars to broadcast the games everyone is going to have to deal with the nonsense. In 2011 the NFL was paid $1.9 Billion for broadcast rights for an entire year from three separate networks. Just $700 million more than for 15 days of games for one network to make back.

True, but look at how much content there is in those 15 days. Works out to as much or more than an entire nfl season. I really think the issue is just having one network carry them. They need to find a collaborative way across the 3 or 4 major networks and air the games across more channels. Doubt it would ever happen, but that would be the best solution to the huge amount of content coming across in so short a time.
