And if NPR is correct, she announced that abuse because she was appalled by the Penn State support for Paterno.

Actually, I can make a joke....

Never have I thought that I would see the day when her opponent, an English woman, is much better looking than she. English women are not hot, and that says a lot

No wonder I never won a medal at Judo. My coach hardly molested me at all.

I know from experience that only grown adults get molested in Taekwando and Krav Maga.

Was anyone else a little put-off by how Costas handled that interview? He asked her a mildly probing question about troubles in her past, then after she gave a generic answer, he was all, "Weren't you also molested? Let's talk about that."

I had no idea! NBC only showed the medal ceremony like four times! Five at the most!

When Harrison first came under the full-time tutelage of Pedro six years ago, she was a 16-year-old who had been the victim of years of sexual abuse by her previous coach.

If only she knew some form of self-defense to protect herself.

There's no way I'd abuse that, sharp knees etc.

Before each match, Pedro stood behind Harrison in the waiting area, whispering to her.

That may not have been the best description of what her new not abusive coach does considering you started the article off by making it about a sexual abuse survivor.

Yeah, the new coach doesn't molest her. He just shamelessly promotes himself and his program in an effort to steal as much of the glory as he can from her victory.

Lesson learned folks. If you have trauma and abuse in your life, you can overcome the adversity and accomplish great things.

Lots of people have overcome sexual abuse to achieve greatness. Gotta hand it to her for coming forth with her story, she wants to be an example for others who have been molested. ----- Good on her. Bravo.

If we sexually assault all our female athletes we'll get all the gold medals for women's events!

Rhonda Rousey, who won a bronze medal for judo, is definitely an exception to that rule.

Did anyone watch the interview with her and I think it was Dan patrick? The very last question went something along the lines of "SO just how did getting sexually abused by your coach all those years help your resolve in winning the gold?"

It was horrific to watch and summed up NBC's coverage and tone for the olympics in one fell swoop.

As with many organizations that offer a chance to work with children, martial arts has its share of sickos. I don't even live in a major city, and I can tell you about one local martial arts teacher who had an affair with a 13 year old girl, and another who did something similar AND had a major cocaine operation going through his school. Neither guy went to jail because of contacts in the police department.

I'm very lucky that I have a teacher who, in addition to being very skilled and knowledgeable, is also a very good person.

She was convinced/groomed that she would marry the coach when she was 18.

Another student told her mom who told the cops. She was 14. Prepared to testify and he pleaded guilty.
