spinach gunk: Hey there farkers! It's me again.... :)

Well, we still miss our little Sarah, I guess we always will, but we are gradually getting used to life with just the three of us. Mr. Gunk and I are eating and sleeping normally again. Buddy is absolutely loving sucking up 100% of our attention. Things are all right. I think we are going to be okay.

A big change of a different sort for Buddy -- last week he got very sick, wouldn't eat, a bit of vomiting, and diarrhea with blood in it, so he got to make a trip to the vet too. The vet did some bloodwork, and it turns out poor Bud has pancreatitis. His body can no longer produce enough enzymes to properly break down excess fats in his bloodstream. The good news is, this condition can be managed very easily by switching to a low-fat diet. The great news is, Buddy LOVES the low-fat prescription food, omg, I can't remember the last time he snarfed food down so fast! He used to be quite the snarfer, dinner gone in about 45 seconds on average, but for a while now his appetite hasn't been all that good, he was eating slower, left food on his plate sometimes, looked mopey quite a lot. I thought he was just getting old. :(

But the new food agrees with him and he loves eating it! I've been cutting the prescription food with some good quality low-fat store-bought food for now, and he loves that too! He has a new lease on life (and happy poops!). Frisky, happy, spirited, licky. :) It is such a joy to see, especially after the heartbreak of losing Sarah. He could probably do with losing a pound or two too. Let's hope that the food agrees with him long-term and that his newfound well-being is a permanent development!

Thanks again for all your friendship and support, Caturdayers. :)

Buddy says, my cookie, let me show you it.

Glad to hear that all three of you are doing better.
Pancreatitus is a b*tch! Meep was in the kitty ICU for three days with it. The treatment is counter-intuitive in that you're supposed to withhold food and water for at least 24 hours. The doc told us it was most likely due to a chunk of pork fat she nabbed from my plate a few days earlier. I remembered the event because it was very unMeep-like of her to snag food from your plate.

I'm curious if your vet mentioned anything about pork products? Not sure if it's the same for dogs but cats have a hard time breaking down the large fat molecules.

Sigh, I am sorry for the losses of all Sweet fur babies... even angry ones. I miss my angry fluffball also, but decisions are made for the better and greater Love, the Love of our beloveds' free of pain.

BAAAHAHAHAHAAA! I must have missed that the first time around!

micromedic, I was recalling a slightly different (methinx, cd also be Aging Memory fade) pic like the one at vy ft (so to speak) of pg 9.
Had requested Search for it, then after seeing it like a nidiot closed Search before seeing where it was. Oh Well.
Plumbicon & I have reservations for today's matinee of The Hound of the Baskervilles by the Cinti Shakespeare Co.
Holmes by Shakespeare? Yet Stranger things have occurred here where the Flying Pigs live.
Reviews have been so favourable it was a trifle challenging to get tix at the price we're willing to pay (slightly reduced).
Was reminded of a MAD Magazine parody a lifetime ago (as if all in MAD wasn't parodies!) they called
The Hound of the Basketballs. Also supposed to recall which story the mention of The Giant Rat of Sumatra is
(researched & found that it's not its own story), but don't. My late mother made this (see pic; it's a long dress I could've photoed but then the pin wouldn't show up)
& I've been awaiting justification to wear it all these yrs (since 1995 when we cleared her house).

Blargh. It's only supposed to get in the 80s here in STL. Maybe I'll stick my foot outside and see what happens. I might enjoy it. But my pale-ass skin might say otherwise! The sun is still out. :o)

Either way."

condolences to those who lost furkids this week. A good friend of mine went through that this week. I had emailed him tuesday, lamenting about the red sox, as usual. Much later, very shortly before I was going to bed, I checked my email and saw a reply.

It was one of those emails you hate to read. He and his wife had spent the day taking their beloved golden retriever, Maggie, to the vet. It was found that she had internal bleeding from a cancerous tumor, and had at best, even with surgery, another day so they put her to sleep. I had just seen her the week before at the shop, where she kept him company every day (how we met.) She was just the sweetest dog, and I loved her very much. The email was a shock, that I let out a wail of dismay mingled with disbelief when I read it. Both he and his wife were quite understandably basket cases that night, or I would have called immediately (he requested I wait a few days before he could talk about it.)

I turned to leave my chair, and go to bed. My cat, Binx, was sitting beside my chair, looking up at me. I was amazed. She has not come upstairs at night since she got sick around christmas, and at age 20, is slowing down and rarely goes upstairs at all. She was right there, looking at me with her "I want attention now, please" pose. Then she proceeded to lead me downstairs to the living room to the couch, where she got on my lap for a while, then beside me and we hung out for about 45 minutes until I began to feel sleepy again. I said "thanks for the scritches" and she got up to retire to her recent sleeping place, my kitchen chair. Excuse me, the kitchen chair that she lets me use when she's not in it.

I don't know how she did it. The coincidence of her showing up, that night, after almost 9 months of not coming upstairs, when I was deeply sadden by the news of the passing of my doggie friend. I've been around animals long enough to know that there is something, don't know what, some sense that they have about things we don't really understand.

RIP, Maggie, you were a good girl. good doggie.

we've finally got a line on a place of our own so now we can stop couch surfing and sleeping in a tent. i can't wait to see it. with any luck it will work out for us. the only downside is that it's 900 for a one bedroom when we can find a two bedroom for that price but we don't have the funds to make first month and security deposit. so at least i can get to have my boys back soon!

Wow... lots of sads again this week :( **HUGS** to all of you!

Glad to see AlienDandelion back!

Welcome to those who left lurk-dom this week!

The last few days haven't been good pain days for me, so I'm not doing a whole lot. Sucks that this time the guy is home... I hate having extra pain when he's home. I already don't get to spend enough time with him... Harvest has started for our garden. Been picking green beans, snow peas, cucumbers, zucchini, potatoes (ok, digging them), and raspberries. Also picked a few of my hot peppers. If the tomatoes would hurry up and ripen, I could make salsa just with stuffs from the garden (some of the onions are about ready to be picked, too). It's exciting to have a real garden, even if I can barely keep up with it. I'll post pics later - I even have a pic of a "Siamese zucchini" from our garden! I couldn't believe it! Thought it was just one zucchini and then discovered the "twin" attached when I went to twist it off the plant.

Awww. LOL Little Pie did that to me too. As long as they can see you, it's all gewd. When she was an infant, I used to go so far as to bring her in her little pumpkin seat into the bathroom with me while I showered. I'd peek at her every 15 seconds or so. Maybe it's just me, but if she started crying, I couldn't hear her.

A couple of weeks ago we called a vet to the house to help our sweet Alice over the bridge. After the wife made the call I stretched out on the couch. Wolf jumped up and layed down on my chest, put his cheek against mine and we took a nap. He NEVER did anything like that before or since.

Yes, I'm convinced they do know much more than we do. Actually I think we're the stupid ones. 99.999999% of the species on this earth can't be wrong.
