It the seeds are such a big problem, what did you plant them for then? They are obviously planted to be that dense.

And they take nitrogen from the soil so they're bad for that too.

Maybe when the sunflowers are gone he keeps the cows in the same field and the cows poop and then next spring he's all like "Godammit! The fu*king sunflowers are BACK! What the FU*K?!"

I was assuming that the problem may be that the sunflowers may expand beyond the field if not kept in check, and begin to invade other parts of the farm.

No, no, the important thing is to prejudge the farmer without any further information or knowledge.

They grow them for a Make-A-Wish Charity event held every year at their farm. $5 bouquets, $5 hayrides and $15 T-Shirts with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish.

You mean they don't make oil from the seeds, or even sell the seeds for bird food? Why not, I wonder.
No. Sunflower honey isn't a thing.

I made the mistake of tilling in about 5 stalks (with heads) of Russian mammoths into my garden last fall. My entire garden was covered in baby sunflowers this spring. I tilled it twice, and still had a half dozen survivors (I let 4 on the edge live). They are like weeds.

Although I'd imagine a simple mowing after they are about a foot high would have solved their problem.

My GF and I have been talking about getting a cow.

Seriously. She has 23 acres in the NE Georgia sticks and we're looking into how much maintenance it would be to have a cow. Not for milk, or meat, just as a sort of pet.

Of course I think if you have one dog/cat/cow you really need two

Why?

No really, why? A single calf/cow? Why? My step dad decided raising one by itself was some sort of kid raising experiment. Cows are as social as a dog or horse herd. You are going to have one pissed off cow you can't wait to butcher for meat in 6 months. Unless you like torturing cows. Then by all means, continue to hobby farm.

/The only reason humans domesticated cows was because they taste good
//It's as bad as rising alpacas
///messy annoying jerks, when raised alone

News reports that generate more questions than answers are as frustrating as having too many sunflower seeds.

I'd go to People's Livestock over in Cartersville (NW GA) and ask for Wendy. Tell her Ron sent you and she'll set you up with a nice cow. No, really, I'm serious.

You are supposed to get the cow as a new-born, and pick it up a few times a day, then you get really really strong as it grows up.

Right?
