Ha. My parents were better role models than that. They kept to a pickup truck in the outfield if they were doing that, and more about drinking and having fun than getting angry . They would buy me soooo many warheads from the concession stand if they were tanked.

I think this falls under the category of "Don't Do Anything to Incite the Fans against the Officials". Most of the time, officials do a good enough job of it themselves...they don't need the help.

My parents would occasionally yell at umps when I played baseball, and I would cringe every time. Mainly because they don't know fark-all about sports and just did it because other parents did.

Seriously, though, in 7 years of umpiring I never had to kick a player or coach out of a game, and I'm actually proud of that. Parents were worse BY FAR, especially these overachiever types who can't fathom that the game is meant for fun, not to crush enemies. These people would yell during the game, then actively seek the ump out after the game for a "talking-to." My go-to response was usually the Steve Buscemi speech from Fargo when the parking attendant is giving him a hard time.

Only person a ref can't throw out of the park is the park's owner.

During a college women's softball game that my girlfriend at the time was playing in, a ref called a foul ball on an over-the-fence hit by an opposing player that just barely passed to the left of the right field's pole. Never touch the pole an probably cleared it to the left by a good 4-6 inches. Obviously a fair ball.

The coach of the opposing team argued with the ref over the call. During this back and forth, an older man yelled down, fairly loudly, from a seat in the front-row right-side of the home plate "How corrupt can you be, Ump?" I heard him clearly, and I was on the other side of the field, half way between the home plate and third base.

The ump turned and called for him to be ejected but the man just laughed and sat down. No security came to escort him out. The ump kept signalling for the guy to be ejected until the coach who had been arguing over the play finally got the ump to shut up and understand that the guy owned the park. Unless the ump was going to try and remove the guy himself, no one was going to do a damn thing about it.

The thing I learned that day was Umps can't toss the owner of the ball-park out of the ball-park.
