Nice. I was trying to come up with a Delaware movie and couldnt think of any.

Does anyone remember the abandoned house in New London that you could see from 95. It sat vacant in the middle of a field with nothing around it. We used to call it Tyler Durden's house until it was destroyed.

HenryFnord: Favorite California movie? Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Ha! I was expecting "The Big Lebowski" as well.

Fun fact:

In real life, Malibu does not have its own police department.....law enforcement duties are contracted out to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

2012-08-02 12:51:21 PM
Oh....and I'm glad Washington is "First Blood" instead of "Sleepless in Seattle".

Also acceptable for my state:

Harry and the Hendersons

From Wikipedia:

Four Atlanta businessmen, Lewis (Burt Reynolds), Ed (Jon Voight), Bobby (Ned Beatty) and Drew (Ronny Cox), decide to canoe down a river in the remote North Georgian wilderness, expecting to have fun and see the glory of nature before the fictional Cahulawassee River valley is flooded by the construction of a dam. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, is the leader. Ed is also a veteran of several trips but lacks Lewis's machismo. Bobby and Drew are novices.

Other options for California:

Dirty Harry
Beverly Hills Cop
Die Hard

Hell, I would say that Beverly Hills Cop is a better choice for Michigan than 8 Mile, even though most of the movie takes place in California.

That's not the way I remember it. In the book I'm pretty sure it was Georgia. And there HAS to be a better pick for Ohio than Tommy Boy. I'd even accept The People vs Larry Flynt and I hated that movie.

off the top of my head, for states that arent MA:

CT - The Ice Storm

NH - Jumanji
VT - Supertroopers

Just my opinion but Jumanji doesn't really hold up anymore. That said, it does capture small town NH pretty well so I can see the argument.

Honestly if they could make a decent film version of A Prayer for Owen Meany that would be the only acceptable choice. Simon Birch is a pale imitation.

Lee's_Austin: While I can't argue with The Blues Brothers, Illinois will always be Halloween for me.

Blues Brothers is a Chicago movie, Halloween is a "rest of the State" movie IMO, and those in Central and Southern IL seem to HATE Chicago and the 'burbs. Given I have no love for those people, I'm fine with the choice, though I love Halloween too.

Of the other States I've lived in:

Indiana - Good.
Michigan - Needs Robocop
Missouri - Ok.
California - Good
Tennessee - Interesting, didn't know about the TN connection
New Hampshire - That's a Massachusetts movie
Pennsylvania - Good, but Zack and Miri also make the list
Colorado - Good

As for Texas, not a bad choice, but what about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? Friday Night Lights?

Though if you want really obscure MI films, the late Ernest Borgnine filmed a couple of indy flicks in northern lower MI. One was Barn Red, and the other was Frozen Stupid. (That last one was filmed just a few miles from my house)

That other robot movie with Hugh Jackman was filmed in Detroit. Michigan would do well to let Hollywodd take over Detroti, if they could re-civilize it of course. There are lots of skilled laborers to create sets and lots of places to build them.

Has anyone asked yet what the rationale is for this project? As in where a movie is filmed as opposed to where it is based on? Seems that there's a lot of back-and-forth on this.

Though the state is not explicitly stated in the movie, the choice for Delaware should be Fight Club.

And I'm cool with Coal Miner's Daughter for Kentucky. I'd have gone for "Nashville" over "The Evil Dead" for Tennessee, however.

Heh, good call. But no.

Although in a roundabout way, Jeff Daniels is the reason I've ended up in Chelsea... Mrs. sychosyd_28 started her professional theatre career at the Purple Rose, so we moved here for that and have been around ever since.

So I guess I'm really promoting "Escanaba in da Moonlight" because I've had beers with just about everybody who's in it. Gotta represent...

I think Eminem is very good, and underrated in some ways, despite the fact that I'm not a rap fan. There's at least a kind of brutal, psychological honesty in what he does, I think.

8 Mile is an example of that, and it puts a spotlight on Detroit in a less comic way than Robocop did.... but it was honestly a movie that showcased Detroit in its brutal & decaying ugliness & awesomeness. When my wife asked if Detroit is really like that, I said yes. Sure, it's a movie, but it also hits painfully close to the mark in many ways.

I don't care for rap, but I like aspects of what Eminem does because he doesn't spare himself. I like 8 Mile for what it is. It's unflinching in its perspective about Detroit. That's the brilliance about Eminem, and the brilliance of 8 Mile. It's not really pleasant. And even if Eminem is the "hero", it's a Detroit hero... still stuck in a kind of hell. It's an admirable movie, I think. Underrated because Eminem is bigger than Jeebus in many ways, and that eclipses the art of what he does.

/haha, loved how Eminem got that guy in the end with the thing about where the other guy went to school. That's awesome, but maybe you'd miss it if you don't know Metro Detroit.
