I hereby nominate "Escanaba in da Moonlight" to represent the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which is missing from this map.

If anybody else knows of any other movie whatsoever about the U.P., I'm open to suggestions. But good luck with that.

// No, "UP" doesn't count.

Tommy Boy for Ohio?

C'mon, it's Major League or nothing!

'Anatomy of a Murder' was set in the UP. Filmed in Marquette.

TrainingWheelsNeeded: Mentat: Missouri could also have been WINTER'S BONE

That movie, while pretty goddamn depressing, was really good. I got it from redbox one night not knowing anything about it and was hooked from the opening scene.

I agree.Great movie.

meanmutton: So we all agree that 8 Mile is a horrible Michigan movie (although it is kind of iconic) but if we're replacing it we should do Gross Pointe Blank.

He's ok with that. So am I.

Wheyfaring Stranger: Cosmk: They got Wisconsin right, so I'm good with it.

We also would have accepted "The Great Spider Invasion"

Didn't expect to see The Godfather of Green Bay as the WI pick, but would have been impressed to find that too.

Forest Gump? It should have been "To Kill a Mockingbird"

Oh well, at least it wasn't "Sweet Home Alabama". *shudder*

Fano: SurfaceTension: No Deliverance for West Virgina?

Being that it happened in Georgia...

Looks like it will have to be Matewan or October Sky

In a sense, October Sky was used for West Virginia. "The Rocket Boys" is the name of the memoir by Homer Hickam on which the movie October Sky was based.

Lee's_Austin: While I can't argue with The Blues Brothers, Illinois will always be Halloween for me.

Blues Brothers is a Chicago movie, Halloween is a "rest of the State" movie IMO, and those in Central and Southern IL seem to HATE Chicago and the 'burbs. Given I have no love for those people, I'm fine with the choice, though I love Halloween too.

Of the other States I've lived in:

Indiana - Good.
Michigan - Needs Robocop
Missouri - Ok.
California - Good
Tennessee - Interesting, didn't know about the TN connection
New Hampshire - That's a Massachusetts movie
Pennsylvania - Good, but Zack and Miri also make the list
Colorado - Good

As for Texas, not a bad choice, but what about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? Friday Night Lights?

Yeah, this seems to irk Farkers more than it should. It's not like they used the Calgary skyline and called it Seattle.

And if you're going to choose any movie for the Great State of Maine, the only sensible choice is the Shawshank Redemption.

I'm the only one arguing for "On Golden Pond" with NH. Even though I don't think the state is ever mentioned it was filmed in NH so I say it should count.

Came in for the U.P. being left off and Anatomy of a Murder.
Leaving satisfied.
Though if you want really obscure MI films, the late Ernest Borgnine filmed a couple of indy flicks in northern lower MI. One was Barn Red, and the other was Frozen Stupid. (That last one was filmed just a few miles from my house)

That other robot movie with Hugh Jackman was filmed in Detroit. Michigan would do well to let Hollywodd take over Detroti, if they could re-civilize it of course. There are lots of skilled laborers to create sets and lots of places to build them.

Maine has 3x as many loons as NH.

Has anyone asked yet what the rationale is for this project? As in where a movie is filmed as opposed to where it is based on? Seems that there's a lot of back-and-forth on this.
