The_Sponge: BunkoSquad: Most of New England gets screwed, and "Misery" didn't take place in Maine, it took place in Colorado. This film/map nerd is disappoint.

1) Seriously....Misery was a major fark-up on that map.

2) IMHO, New England should have been "Jaws".

We should just give all of northern New England to John Irving. Cider House Rules should be Maine's.

Gunny Highway: What would Delaware's and Connecticut's movies be?

Not sure about Delaware, but my home state of Connecticut could have:

Christmas in Connecticut
Holiday Inn
Mass Appeal
The Stepford Wives

RCL: I'd argue Mystic Pizza for Connecticut. Super Troopers is a no-brainer for Vermont. Maine? New Hampshire?

Maine: A lot of Stephen King adaptations fit the bill. I'd go with The Dead Zone.
New Hampshire: Lolita

Parts of it were filmed here, in sunny Petaluma.

Do you know how humiliating it is to have my home town representing Cleveland??

Good list. Disagree with the current state I live in. Make it Another Earth.

Missouri should have been 'Waiting for Guffman.' For reals...people here are scarily like that.

/In this circle, it's always 67 degrees, with a 40% chance of rain!

Hmmm:

Vermont: The Trouble with Harry, State and Main
New Hampshire: What About Bob?, The Weight of Water
Connecticut: Mystic Pizza, The Visitor
Rhode Island: Dan in Real Life (Hey, I liked it)
Delware: American Splendor (sorta)

I should have used all caps and just made use of the "Big" and "Small" tags. In the style of the mapmaker.

It's okay....all is forgiven.

And you just reminded me.....

Two recent movies for California:

Sideways
Bottleshock

2012-08-02 02:17:53 PM
Bull Durham? NC should have TOTALLY been Maximum Overdrive.

Also, while First Blood was set in Washington, it was filmed in Canada.

JustMatt: Gunny Highway: Rhode Island isnt on the list. Outside Providence would be my pick.

Me, Myself and Irene.

Funny, another Jim Carrey movie XD

Bears repeating:

As long as they didn't go with "Sleepless in Seattle", I'm happy. Hell, the Elvis classic "It Happened at the World's Fair" would be a better pick than that Tom Hanks schmaltz fest.

While I agree the choice is odd, I'm grinning from ear to ear that the guy who made this thinks John Waters is a more important Maryland filmmaker than Barry Levinson.

Good Will Hunting is great but really only belongs to Mass. I understand they had to make the font fit but NH/Vermont have nothing to do with Good Will Hunting.

My New England List:
Mass: Good Will Hunting
Maine: Cider House Rules
NH: On Golden Pond
Vermont: Super Troopers
Rhode Island: There's Something about Mary
Connecticut: Stepford Wives? There's really no good CT movies.

Nope. It was set in King's fictional stomping-ground of Castle Rock, Maine.

(Although in researching which King films were in Maine and which weren't, I noticed that the movie of Stand By Me was set in Castle Rock, Oregon. A change on the filmmaker's part?)

So we all agree that 8 Mile is a horrible Michigan movie (although it is kind of iconic) but if we're replacing it we should do Gross Pointe Blank.

The Tao of Steve for New Mexico?
More like Ron Howards "Missing"
their descendents are still living here.
Texas should be Peckinpah's "the Getaway". Saw too many style simularities with what they choose.

Red Dawn for Colorado? meh. South Park:Bigger, Longer & Uncut or The Shining would also have worked.

Mystery, Alaska. Underrated film featuring a hilarious cameo by Mike Myers.

Dark Knight for Illinois. The final film in the Nolan trilogy was really missing the Chicago look and feel.

2012-08-02 03:27:58 PM

Mentat: Missouri could also have been WINTER'S BONE

That movie, while pretty goddamn depressing, was really good. I got it from redbox one night not knowing anything about it and was hooked from the opening scene.

sweetlenny: Dark Knight for Illinois. The final film in the Nolan trilogy was really missing the Chicago look and feel.

That's because it's supposed to be set in Gotham.

You've actually hit on my least favorite thing about The Dark Knight. The shots they used just made it look like a sequel to The Fugitive.

Just my opinion but Jumanji doesn't really hold up anymore. That said, it does capture small town NH pretty well so I can see the argument.

Honestly if they could make a decent film version of A Prayer for Owen Meany that would be the only acceptable choice. Simon Birch is a pale imitation.
