Favorite California movie? Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

2012-08-02 10:18:01 AM
Most of New England gets screwed, and "Misery" didn't take place in Maine, it took place in Colorado. This film/map nerd is disappoint.

2012-08-02 10:30:11 AM
Louisiana gets "The Green Mile"? fark that.

2012-08-02 11:45:53 AM
Missouri could also have been WINTER'S BONE

2012-08-02 11:52:16 AM
Rhode Island isnt on the list. Outside Providence would be my pick.

No Deliverance for West Virgina?

2012-08-02 12:25:57 PM
At least Pennsylvania got Groundhog Day instead of Rocky.

What would Delaware's and Connecticut's movies be?

Gunny Highway: What would Delaware's and Connecticut's movies be?

Fight Club and Amistad.

Nice. I was trying to come up with a Delaware movie and couldnt think of any.

Does anyone remember the abandoned house in New London that you could see from 95. It sat vacant in the middle of a field with nothing around it. We used to call it Tyler Durden's house until it was destroyed.

HenryFnord: Favorite California movie? Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Ha! I was expecting "The Big Lebowski" as well.

Fun fact:

In real life, Malibu does not have its own police department.....law enforcement duties are contracted out to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

2012-08-02 12:51:21 PM
Oh....and I'm glad Washington is "First Blood" instead of "Sleepless in Seattle".

Also acceptable for my state:

Harry and the Hendersons

SurfaceTension: No Deliverance for West Virgina?

IIRC, Deliverance takes place in Georgia.

8 Mile sucked. Michigan's should be Robocop.

It was filmed in Georgia, but is set in West Virginia.

From Wikipedia:

Four Atlanta businessmen, Lewis (Burt Reynolds), Ed (Jon Voight), Bobby (Ned Beatty) and Drew (Ronny Cox), decide to canoe down a river in the remote North Georgian wilderness, expecting to have fun and see the glory of nature before the fictional Cahulawassee River valley is flooded by the construction of a dam. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, is the leader. Ed is also a veteran of several trips but lacks Lewis's machismo. Bobby and Drew are novices.

Other options for California:

Dirty Harry
Beverly Hills Cop
Die Hard

ignatius_crumbcake: 8 Mile sucked. Michigan's should be Robocop.

Hell, I would say that Beverly Hills Cop is a better choice for Michigan than 8 Mile, even though most of the movie takes place in California.

No problem. Oh...and just to make sure, I just found out that the book takes place in Georgia as well.

Being that it happened in Georgia...

Looks like it will have to be Matewan or October Sky

1) Seriously....Misery was a major fark-up on that map.

2) IMHO, New England should have been "Jaws".

That's not the way I remember it. In the book I'm pretty sure it was Georgia. And there HAS to be a better pick for Ohio than Tommy Boy. I'd even accept The People vs Larry Flynt and I hated that movie.

Fano: October Sky

So very much This.

Wizard of Oz is the cultural shorthand. A better representation would be In Cold Blood or Picnic.

The answer is "Major League".

List fails for North Dakota as Fargo takes place in more so in Minnesota than in North Dakota despite its name. also Grumpy Old men would be a better Fit for Minnesota that Purple Rain.

2012-08-02 01:45:08 PM
Ghostbusters is a great pick for New York, but Goodfellas would have been another good choice.

While I can't argue with The Blues Brothers, Illinois will always be Halloween for me.

2012-08-02 01:47:43 PM
Why isn't Deliverance on there?

2012-08-02 01:49:05 PM
I think Raising Arizona would be a better choice than Tombstone for Arizona.

2012-08-02 01:50:33 PM
Good Will Hunting fills 5 states. Lazy effort there.

off the top of my head, for states that arent MA:

CT - The Ice Storm
RI - Me Myself and Irene
NH - Jumanji
VT - Supertroopers

Speaking of mafia films, what did they pick for New Jersey?

I'm glad the map didn't extend above the border. Seeing 'Strange Brew' across Ontario would have just reinforced the stereotype.

2012-08-02 01:57:20 PM
Canada would just be one big "Strange Brew".

LemSkroob: Good Will Hunting fills 5 states. Lazy effort there.

NH - Jumanji

Jumanji was set in a state?

Was hoping to see Delaware/Fight Club, but leave disappointed, but I see it's been covered all ready.

They could have at least attempted to get 48 states in there...

I'd argue Mystic Pizza for Connecticut. Super Troopers is a no-brainer for Vermont. Maine? New Hampshire?

Roy Sxhneider drinks Narragansett beer in that movie. Always thought that was cool.
