CSB: Jimmy Buffett slept on my couch.

Start up the way-back machine to 1973, when Buffett toured as a solo act and had just released "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean." I was living in Nags Head NC, and pretty friendly with a guy who ran one of the local clubs. It was a shoe-string operation and musicians often stayed in his spare room, or with whoever had a empty bed that night. I happened to be hanging around after last call and the bar owner asked if Buffett could crash at my place. Sure, no problem. The next morning I made him some breakfast and coffee and we chatted a bit before he got back in his van and headed off to his next gig in Virginia Beach. Seemed like a nice guy, we talked about over-development and other beach town things.

But, frankly, nowadays I can't stand him. And not only because every album since "Changes in Latitudes" has been a treadmill copy of the previous album, but because he's come to personify the sort of carnival attitude that tourists take whenever they hit a beach town - come in, trash the place, and leave (and often without tipping). Think people in California hate the Eagles? That's nothing compared to East Coast beach townies who've had to listen to Jimmy Farking Buffett at maximum volume for the past 20 years.

So, fark 'im.

/A1A is still a fine album

FTA: It seems to have had something to do with a new "Yolo" - you only live once - segment Katie's cooking up for her fall talk show.

Whelp, I'm outta here. It was nice knowing you all. <blam>

She's probably younger than most of his fans.

Look at this way... she might have something jammed in her ass on live TV again. Just check listings to see when Lexington Steel is a guest.

Dude, thanks. I'd never heard that before. It's my new theme song.

I'm headed home to Nags Head in a couple days. I'll be sure to pass this around.

That last part about Buffett and his tourist fans is so spot on.

We used to have this small, quiet bar on the inlet here that was converted from an old bait shack. Eight years later after appearing in a Buffet video and a couple of Alan Jackson videos, its an over-priced, over-built tourist trap. It's popularity has caused the opening of a few other places on the same road trying to cash in on those "parrot head" d-bags.

I hate these people as well.

Jimmy Buffett is music for people who don't listen to music.

'Cuz nothing says "rock n' roll!" like middle aged people in grass skirts puking up tequila and undercooked shrimp in the concert venue parking lot.

denouncing a famous person won't make you any more rich or any more famous; did you know that? Probably not or you wouldn't have opened your retarded...fingers.

Never. Even he doesn't think it is.

I don't have much gripe with his music. I have some gripe with the hundreds and hundreds of acoustic cover guys... but that is another rant.

I do have a gripe with the way he has decided to cash in. Sort of commercializing the culture he describes to the point that it can't exist anymore. These are little quibbles though, I'm sure Jimmy is a good guy in his real life... it is just his followers that are obnoxious. Just like Jesus.

Y'all can rip on Jimmy Buffett's music (and frankly, he has massively sold out - he's an easy-listening version of KISS) but his concerts are farking awesome. Just good vibes from everyone, relaxing and drinking (not to mention the fumes from certain plants being smoked).

I don't know if PR firms are getting faster at trending data, or just being given a much more free hand, but they are picking up and putting out memes and other trends much faster these days.
