Huh. I called it for Malekith to be the villain when they announced Mads Mikklesen joining Thor 2, but I thought he was going to play the role. Now i wonder what role he's playing, if he's still attached to the film.

Also, let's get Amora up in this thing since that would lead to an epic Thor/Executioner fight. Or at least Urik the Troll King, since it looks like Thor's going to be cruising the Nine Realms in this film.

No, he had to bail due to other commitments. Too bad, but they got an interesting replacement. I don't think Marvel movies are going to have any problems attracting top talent.

I seem to remember a scene in Avengers where Jane Foster is mentioned. It's the scene between Thor and Coleson on the S.H.I.E.L.D. air carrier.

Coleson mentions that Foster has been reassigned to some remote location for her to work in safety, away from the upcoming war. They displayed an image of Jane on one of the monitors, and I distinctly remember noticing that it was NOT Natalie Portman. In fact, it looked like this girl:

And yet, IMDB and Wiki have Natalie Portman listed as reprising her role in the next movie. Anyone know something I don't?

I like Eccleston a lot, and he's a big reason why I started watching New Who, and stuck with it even though Rose was...well.

Back on topic, Eccleston has some serious villain chops and I think he's a great fit. It's pretty funny how the Marvel movies have kinda lined up with the Americans as the good guys and the UK/Commonwealth as the enemies so far. Hiddleston as Loki, Weaving as Red Skull, Roth as Blonsky, now Eccleston as another baddie - I guess the exception would be the Iron Man franchise that has Bridges, Rourke, and Rockwell, but it's a very Star Wars sorta thing that the go-to bad guys seem to be British (or Aussie, I guess).

So is this one going to actually have some sort of story that serves as something more than a character exposé as a leadup to the Avengers? Will it have any sort of continuity with the Avengers movie? And if so, why isn't it just called The Avengers?

2012-08-02 02:36:16 PM
This is a terrific addition to the cast, but Eccleston is my Doctor so I'm biased. Great cast, Alan Taylor directing, the wheels can still come off if the script sucks. If the script is strong this could end up being the best of the second wave of Marvel features.

That's some blatant plagiarism there.

FTFA: "If you don't know who Malekith is, your Hall H privileges at Comic-Con are officially suspended. He is a super-villain in the Marvel Universe, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. In the Marvel Comics, he clashed mightily with Thor, and will go up against the hammer-wielding son of Odin in the film directed by Game of Thrones' Alan Taylor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters."

From the first paragraph of Malekith The Accursed's Wiki article: "Malekith the Accursed is a supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and has come into conflict with Thor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters."

Yes, yes, this movie will be soft core porn for gadian.. Both Hemsworth and Eccleston really do it for me, throw in Natalie Portman and we've got ourselves a sandwich I want to enjoy. Eccleston does make a great villian, but I think he's a little typecast because of his looks. He's also a great protagonist - Jude is still one of the saddest movies I have ever seen and he was hilarious in...I can't think of the name, the one where he's an accountant and has to smash the teeth out of the dead guy. Besides, he's still the most well-rounded Doctor we've seen in the Nuwho.

Watched Thor on Netflix the other day when I was babysitting my nephew. Good God, that shiat was unwatchable. I blame the Borne Identity for starting the trend of 5,000 seperate quick cut shots crammed into a 3 minute fight scene. I realize it's intended to be visual junk food, but they've now added yellow Sudafed-cooked-in-a-hotel-coffee-pot crank to the visual Mountain Dew. No doubt this is going to be forever looked back on as the Dark Ages of cinema.

Thor isn't too bad. Just the final battle with the big robot thing is clearly when they ran out of money and time -- it's filmed on an empty back lot left over from a MST3K-quality movie, and all the other characters are wearing rented Renaissance festival costumes.

He has been credited as Doctor Who many times in the original series, and Three had a car with "WHO" licence plate as well as the Whomobile.

/Trivia: The Whomobile was owned by Jon Pertwee personally, not the BBC. When he left he took it with him.

I thought the first Thor was okay but without knowing anything about the comic, I thought the stuff on his home planet of Krypton or Alderaan or wherever could have been played a little more straight. I get the fish-out-of-water stuff on earth but even the scenes on Alderaan were a little too tongue in cheek. If they played that more like a serious Conan flick and left the "by Grabthar's hammer, those are some big tits" humor to when he was on earth, I think it would have worked a little better.

Strange, that doesn't look like Tom Baker....

To be fair, I do love me some Baker, but my comment was referring to the modern Who era.

But it doesn't look like Matt Smith either....

/basically, run

Bah! Eleven relies way too much on informed bad-assery rather than actually being bad-assed (and that scene perfectly illustrates this). It's been getting better as they've gone along, but no one sold the fact that The Doctor was actually dangerous like Ten did.

Just ask The Family.

/So, who wins in a fight? The Doctor or Batman?

Malekith played by Eccleston? YES PLEASE. Now we just need Amora to show up as one of his sidechicks, perhaps an Executioner cameo...and I'd probably faint with happiness if we had Kurse.

Some 'Splainin' To Do: /So, who wins in a fight? The Doctor or Batman?

Well, obviously The Doctor is no match for The Batman in a physical fight, even with two hearts and a bunch of extra lives.

And Batman has recently demonstrated that you can't just zap him out of time. He just comes back.

So instead of fighting Batman directly, the Doctor jumps in the TARDIS, goes back in time 30 years, and...

...kills Bruce Wayne's parents.

Yes. It's basically, the Avengers, but with a group of D-List heroes fighting D-List villains (including Forbush Man at one point), while being chased by a hilarious version of SHIELD named HATE, and led by a guy named Dirk Anger.

DjangoStonereaver: un4gvn666: I seem to remember a scene in Avengers where Jane Foster is mentioned.

Claire Forlani.

And yet, IMDB and Wiki have Natalie Portman listed as reprising her role in the next movie. Anyone know something I don't?

NP's picture was used for Jane Foster in THE AVENGERS.
