Double canoe slalom is bloody impressive. The gates are the same size as in the singles, as far as I can tell, and they're getting two people through there.

I'm watching the bronze table tennis match. When they made the uniforms for this, did they purposely try to make them with as little fashion sense as possible?

Holy shiat, two golds and a silver for Great Britain within 60 seconds, with a one-two in the C2 canoe slalom. What.

Maybe they thought hey, they're playing table tennis, they look silly already. May as well go the whole hog.

I love the Velodrome, can't wait to watch.

You mean there is something on other than beach volleyball?

It's farking lame that something as mild as badminton gets to play, but no baseball.

I don't even know the reason why. Probably money. Either way, just hand the US another gold for that.

USA Olympic baseball wasn't that good.

The US only won gold during one games in baseball. Cuba won most of them.

Also, dressage is on it might be the dumbest olympic event I've ever seen.

Yeah..."Motherfarking Dressage!" starts today.

/not the exact name of the event

The women's archery gold medal match was pretty exciting, it has to go to a tiebreaker last arrow.

/also one of the archers was really cute.

OK, I very much do not understand judo. Each of them just took turns to do what looked like the same thing to me, except one got a point and the other did.

2012-08-02 11:04:24 AM
Didn't, even.

2012-08-02 11:04:38 AM
I just skipped around in the dressage feed until I found Rafalca, the Ann Romney horse.

For those wondering, Rafalca and rider Jan Eberling scored 70.213%, which is good for 13th place out of the 25 rider/horse combos that went today. (Some Canadian rider biffed it completely and was eliminated.)

Looking at the list of discontinued Olympics Events it looks like Ruby is making a comeback in 2016? I didn't know it was that popular around the world.

Women's judo need more mud or jello.

Why is dressage so maligned? It seems that training and riding a horse to display impeccable control is as much a useful skill as throwing a ball in a net.

Because the horse is doing all the real work.

USA USA USA

The way they keep needing to redress themselves, you'd think it might be time for a re-think on the required clothing.

Oh, well there we go, then. Gold for USA, silver for GBR.

Who gets the medal? The horse, the trainer or the rider?

what channel has judo? all i see is tennis (again), swimming and then beach volleyball on NBC, and water polo

Well, it's rugby sevens, which is "rugby lite."

A rugby seven match is only 15 minutes long including half-time, so they can conceivably get the whole tournament done in a day.

The horse deserves the medal for being made to look so ridiculous.

Do they play Echo and the Bunnymen before the start of dressage?

Siamese Bream: OK, I very much do not understand judo. Each of them just took turns to do what looked like the same thing to me, except one got a point and the other did.

Basically, each one is trying to throw the other. They get points based on the quality of the throw. A really good throw is called an 'ippon', and if you get that, it's an instant win. Below that is a 'waza-ari', which if you get two of those equals an ippon. Below that is a 'yuko', an infnite number of which are inferior to one waza-ari. And then below that is a 'koka', an infinite number of which are inferior to one yuko and which is so worthless I'm not even sure they're counting them in this competition. High score wins, assuming nobody's gotten an ippon yet. There are also penalties handed out on four levels, each one corresponding to one of the four scoring levels and which are used to help break ties.

In case of a tie on scores and penalties, they go to 'golden score'= next throw good enough to get anything on the board wins. If that doesn't do it, it goes to the judges.

The horse should get the medal, the trainer should get the prize money, and the rider should get a pat on the back along with a card saying "thanks for not farking up our hard work"

I just saw the clip of the Korean and Chinese women's doubles badmitton teams getting disqualified, but no explanation as to why they took turns throwing the game. Anyone?

And the BBC plays "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" to introduce the indoor cycling.

That's a silly question subby, the women's all around is always more exciting than the men's

By losing the game they got an easier spot in the tournament leading up to medals.

A little bit tomorrow with 2 medals and some heats, kicks into high gear Saturday with 4-8 medals every day until the next Saturday.

I saw one of the men's matches the other day, which was won by technicality because the other fighter spent too long retying his belt.

Gosling: Basically...

I see. There was presumably some slight technical difference between the scored throw and the non-scored one. Then again, one point got taken away again, so maybe the judges haven't a clue either.

I think the video replay judges overruled the ring judge.

oooo beach soccer? Nice. Watched a few games of that on a trip once. That looked like a rough ass sport to play (running in sand is not fun)
