Lenny_da_Hog: Great Janitor: Parents, your kids aren't eating McDonald's Happy Meals because of the toys. They are eating the McDonald's Happy Meals because you make the choice to buy them for your kid to eat. Your kids aren't fat because McDonald's put toys in their happy meals. They are fat because of what you choose to feed them. Be an adult, stop catering to your children, take responsibility for your actions, and stop blaming everyone for your dumb choices and mistakes.

Easier still, turn off your farking television.

You can see where the change was made in the 50s and 60s. Then, they would advertise to parents, saying, "Buy this for your kid!" Then they started marketing directly through Saturday morning cartoons, telling the kids to bug their parents, showing how every *other* kid's parents were buying them (whatever), in order to make the kid feel like his parents didn't love him.

Prime-time commercials aimed at the parents then show how happy the family would be if you'd only do (whatever).

Every individual parent is going up against a multi-billion dollar ad industry in trying to raise their kids, and there is *nothing* to show the parents how marketing affects the kids, and there's nothing to show the kids where the bullshiat manipulation comes from.

In a capitalist society, marketing awareness courses should be mandatory in public education. Level the playing field.

What kind of awareness does one need??

Teacher: This is a commercial. Companies use these to promote their goods so you will buy them.

Student: ohhhh.. NOW I get it! I wasn't aware before.
