I did shot put in high school. Well, actually I sat in the shade with the other linemen and made fun of the rest of the football team who had to do the track portion of track and field.

Shot put done properly requires a lot of technique.

I was a wide receiver and I did shot put and long jump.

I don't think we had anyone seriously compete in shot put and discus. I don't think our coach even knew how it was supposed to be done. We had some good runners though. 80% of the track team was just there to stay in shape in the offseason.

The most fun swimming race is tomorrow - the 50m freestyle. One length of the pool, all out sprint. 58 athletes will compete in the heats, 8 make it to the final. Watch the early heats if possible, that's where all the racers with no hope of making it through swim. First heat is between Benin, Laos & Central African Republic.

They had it from 1992 to 2008. It was dropped apparently because the IOC decided that baseball doesn't have enough of a world following for enough nations to be competitive, not to mention MLB not allowing its players to participate (via not suspending the season like the NHL does) as well as baseball's issues with steroids.

I don't know, most of the Americas + s. Korea and japan plays. That is certainly not representative of all the world. I understand MLB not having their players playing in the middle of the season.

By world they mean Europe.
