ontariolightning: African and Carribean countries do better at track and field than anyone else

USA had the most golds and most total medals in athletics in 2008.

USA 9 7 9
Russia 6 5 7
Kenya 6 4 4
Jamaica 6 3 2
Ethiopia 4 1 2

Everyone else had 1 or 0 golds. China only had 2 bronze.

Kenny B: I think I should stop drinking. Asked the Wife " Where the hell is Gyurta?"

I think it used to be called Upper Volta? Or maybe I'm thinking of Zaire? No, that's the Congo now. Anyway, its land is mostly mountainous and its chief export is chrome.

ontariolightning: Nearly 2/3rds of USAs medals are from swimming.. US might be up there with China but its clear they aren't as diversely talented as the Chinese are.

Really, have you looked at diving? Lots of China's medals are diving.

Europeans dominate the field events, Americans tend to do fairly well there, and this year could be really good for Americans in a few field events. In track, the men's 400 meter dash is pretty much all America all the time. The US is likely to sweep the medals again this year. The 100 goes back and forth, but there are always American sprinters at the top and in the 200 same thing. In the womens events the US is consistently among the top in the sprints. The problem comes in with the longer stuff, though that's changed. After Kenya and Ethiopia the US now has the best middle distance runners in the world.

You were responding to a post that said the USA would get lots of medals in athletics. If they match 2008, they are going to get a lot of medals. And if China matches 2008, they will not get a lot of medals.

Maybe we should import some lions to practice running from. It's the only thing that makes sense since those countries are starving.

to determine who wins the olympics, the winner has to have the most gold medals
you cant have a country with 80 bronze and 10 gold and 10 silver win when another country has 50 gold medals

Kenyans aren't starving at all. Kenya while not overly wealthy is not a country where people go without food. It's just that they have a lot of hills and many people live at high altitude. And kids will run to school, just for kicks. You spend your youth running four or five miles to school while living at 4,000 feet and going up and down hills along the way, if one day you decide to be a competitive runner, you've got a good foundation. In a way distance running is the opposite of how China does things. Kenya doesn't have to do anything to have tons of great runners, their track and cross country federations make sure kids have access to running clubs and local races and everything else goes from there.

wait, i tried looking for an NBC Olympics app for iphone/ipod and couldnt find one
but CTV has an olympics app

does nbc have an olympics app?

I wonder if it is similar to "I don't drink officer, my coke was contaminated (with jack)".

On Android it's called Live Extra or something close to that. The phone one on Droid works great.

Mmmrky: How do you prove that you failed a test due to a "contaminated" supplement?

Well it's an argument that only works with certain substances, and then only within certain parameters. If the issue is with one of those substances, then you hand over the supplement and it goes from there.

I guess, if you hadn't finished them and knew it was the source. It seems like a pretty big loophole though, just "find" some contaminated supplements.

It's pretty well laid out. Put it this way, the arguments Barry Bonds made about the stuff he got and not knowing it was steroids? That would get you laughed out of the appeal with the swimming federation.

Still, it's creepy to find sexy pictures of her. If any existed, I wouldn't post them It's just not right. And since that "who farted" picture is what comes up when I GIS'ed her name with "pretty", I don't think I'm going to find any, anyway.
