Want a pet wombat SOOO BAD!

Those are digging in the dirt claws. Wombats are about as lethal as Vietnamese potbellied pigs.

Full-grown wombats are actually cuter. Marsupials are pretty hideous in the pouch, until they get old enough to have fur and eyeballs.

Best of friends, my hole. The first time those two things saw each other was seconds before the photo-shoot.

Wild about Wildlife Kilmore Rescue Centre clearly need a few more visitors.

Jeez, subby, if ever there was a time to invoke "ugly-ass" in a headline it was for that thing on the right. It looks like one of the Ghoulies or something.

All it needs is a baby dingo and you've got a Pixar Australian buddy movie in the making, preferably with Dennis Leary but without John Leguizamo or Ray Romano doing voices.

As an Australian, loving this thread. Much better than the recent threads about the Darwin guy with the firecracker up his arse (that's the Australian spelling of ass) or the Melbourne junky od'ing in Maccas (that's the Australian spelling of Mickey-D's).

My state of South Australia has twice as many 'roos as people. Wombats are also cool. For anyone interested, the name Anzac refers to our respectable military traditions, dating back to WW1, but continuing through WW2, Vietnam and into modern times in the middle east. It's an acronym for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Every city in Australia has various streets called Anzac and other bits of infrastructure called Gallipoli and Tobruk.

What's a "chazzwozzer"?

Google tells me it's Australian for a bullfrog. I'm 37 years old, have lived here all that time and I've never ever heard this term before.

Mind you, although there are lots of frogs in the creek next to our place, these aren't bullfrogs so I'm guessing it's a Western Australia thing.

It's a line from "The Simpsons" from the episode they go to Australia.

Ah, there we go. I generally like The Simpsons but that episode really sucked and I haven't bothered to watch it since it first aired. I don't mind The Simpsons or anyone else taking the piss out of Australia (the Flight of the Concords episode featuring Australian dickheads was magnificent and sadly all-too-accurate), but that episode was written by someone who clearly knew nothing at all about our wide brown land. Is it a reference to bullfrogs or cane toads (Australia's most hated introduced species, followed by rabbits and wild pigs)?

Aussie_As: Is it a reference to bullfrogs or cane toads

Marge: We have them in America. They're called bullfrogs.
Clerk: What? That's an odd name. I'd have called them "chazzwazzers".
