This is unbelievable. I don't think it was possible to be to the right of that guy. This could be a case where nothing but astroturf money coupled with a Tea Bagger simply calling him a moderate was enough for him to lose.

"Even though the lieutenant governor oversaw some of the most-conservative state legislative sessions in Texas history [...] he also occasionally compromised with Democratic lawmakers to keep the legislative agenda moving."

DID YOU SAY OCCASIONALLY COMPROMISE?!? OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!

I can already hear the laughter of 98 other senators realizing that Texas will be screaming like a toddler for the federal government to spend their filthy, dirty funds in some other state.

FTA: the elder Cruz fled to the U.S. with nothing but $100 sowed into his underwear.

OK.

* * * * *

I feel so sorry for my TX friends who have to share their state with people like this one:

Natache Reeves, a 42-year-old nurse from the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine, said she voted for Cruz because he had Palin's support and was less likely to restrict handgun use.

"I love Sarah Palin, and she's backing Ted Cruz," Reeves said. "I pretty much agree with everything that rolls out of her mouth."

2012-08-01 02:42:04 AM
He was endorsed by ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, radio talk show host Glenn Beck, U.S. Sens. Jim DeMint of South Carolina and Kentucky's Rand Paul, as well as former GOP presidential hopeful and Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

Look at that list of names. Seriously, just look at it. Now realize that in some circles it is considered a perfect set of references on a resume. I mean, farking Rand Paul is the smartest, sanest one.

There was a time when we used to politely deal with our morons by putting wine corks on their forks and keeping them at the other end of the table while everyone else had dinner. Now, it's actually a contest to see who can be the dumbest, folksiest idiot on the national stage. Glenn farking Beck? Even if I were a conservative I'd rather be endorsed by AIDS.

So, the traditional conservatives are either losing or resigning from the party.

I feel like they're not fighting for their party hard enough. This isn't over a flipping parking space. The new conservative breed is literally trying to cause harm to this country.

The fun part is that these idiots are going to be RAGING mad when Obama gets reelected. The party is going to veer even further to the right, just like after the last election. That, coupled with the belief that they lost because Romney was too moderate, means that the GOP is going to have a tremendous uphill battle preventing the 2016 primaries from being an even more retarded 3-ring derpus than this past year.

Oh, don't mind me. This is just a bookmark to remind myself to come back when this thread goes live so I can click on smart and funny.

Isn't it odd how often smart, funny, and sad seem to overlap? Anybody have a venn for that?

people in this thread seem pretty upset/outraged. what exactly is the difference between them? the TFA said there was practically none, "either politically or ideologically". is there something they missed?

When the next wildfires strike the volunteer firefighting force is going to be upset when their trucks' water tanks are filled with Jon McNaughton paintings and hardback copies of "Atlas Shrugged"

Cruz is a relatively sane choice when compared to some of the other candidates.

Steve Stockman is the Republican nominee for Congress in the gerrymandered 36th district (all Republican voters). Steve Stockman is a former homeless person living on the edge of insanity. When he is elected, I expect there to the antics to increase 100%.

What's your definition of an American elite? Well, how about:

Lawyer. Check
Princeton and Harvard-trained. Check
Former Washington official. Check
Former solicitor general of a large state. Check
Argued cases before the Supreme Court. Check

Yep, whatever else you might think of this guy, he's unquestionably an elite, one of the most privileged individuals in the United States. He's clearly well-connected and has personally wielded considerable power, far more than most of us ever will.

And so, of course, he's the latest phony tea bagger to rise to national prominence by pretending to be an insurgent and a voice of change for the helpless, oppressed, powerless masses.

UPDATE: And now the Times is positioning him as the intellectual of the Tea Party. That's like calling Dick Cheney the St. Francis of torturers. Link

I had to fight traffic near our town's Chick-Fil-A at lunchtime (today's the big "eat-in" thing). Cars in line were blocking every access to a shopping complex that I was TRYING to visit. So much effort just because they don't want gay people treated as equals under the law.

I'm starting to seriously hate my state.

I live in Arlington, Texas, a city in the middle of Dallas/Fort Worth. It's the largest city in America without public transportation but it managed to buy the Dallas Cowboys a stadium.

Nothing you say about Texas, or Texans, are lies. The state, and those who live within it, are as they're portrayed. I was not raised to back down from a challenge, but I'm not a damn fool about it either, and as time passes my interest in winning this battle wanes.

I might be wrong but I thought that this was the nail in the coffin for Dewhurst. After that embarrassment of a presidential bid, weren't people starting to slowly step away from Parry? Texas is very status quo so if you're ousted you either farked up bad or you're associated with a major farkup.
