The Fourth is all he needs.

The Fifth is ... all he bleeds.

(I seriously didn't set out for that to rhyme, but f*ck it, it's true).

Haha, he basically said "The Media would rather write about what I said than things that are largely irrelevant to this campaign!"

A "gaffe" has now been redefined to mean "anything said that might upset idiot libs".

Calling his comments "racist" is nothing short of absurd lying. Besides the fact that Palestinians are not a race, Romney was repeating the findings of a UN report that was written by Arabs on the very issue of culture and the failures of culture in the Arab/muslim world.

Okay, why don't you find that report and the sentences in context for us.

Gee, you'd think that if it was more than him just repeating a talking-point he just read on some wingnut blog he'd be able to recall that information faster.

"I realize that there will be some in the Fourth Estate, or whichever estate, who are far more interested in finding something to write about that is unrelated to the economy, to geopolitics, to the threat of war, to the reality of conflict in Afghanistan today, to a nuclearization of Iran," Romney told FOX News on Tuesday. "They'll instead try and find anything else to divert from the fact that these last four years have been tough years for our country."

No, you twit. We're well aware that your saber rattling with Israel against the "nuclearization of Iran," your chicken-shiat chicken hawk Bush holdovers and your desire to keep American troops in Afghanistan indefinitely ARE the threat of war.

They weren't bigoted either.

No point in engaging in desperate lying on this issue either, since it won't help Obama win a single vote.

Yet, with all this, what has Romney actually said about anything here he would actually do? I mean outside of support for Israel bombing Iran before not supporting Israel bombing Iran? Romney doesn't want to talk about any of this either. His campaign is perfectly happy trying to run with that "you didn't build that" thing and pretty much nothing else. They say "hey, the economy sucks under Obama" yet offer nothing else.

Sure, the economy does suck. Wall St. isn't the economy. Romney has offered absolutely nothing in the sense of policy or direction. He has offered tons of fail from a campaign, though, so at least it is amusing.

Okay, lets talk about:

the economy, What would Romney do to fix it? Besides tax cuts for the wealthy?

to geopolitics Romney has said that the Soviet Union is our enemy.

to the threat of war The threat has come from Romney threatening Iran.

to the reality of conflict in Afghanistan today Romney would increase troops there.

to a nuclearization of Iran Romney would nuke Iran.

Yeah, Britain thinking you're a "twit" and Palestine thinking that there's no rational way that the US can impartially broker peace talks if you get into office is in no way related to geopolitics.

Sure. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

Too bad for him, his little World Embarrassment Tour just further solidified the narrative that he's an out of touch, clueless, upper class twat.

I liked Krauthammer's comment, as well:
"All Romney has to do, say nothing. It's like a guy in the 100-meter dash. All he has to do is to finish, he doesn't have to win. And instead, he tackles the guy in the lane next to him and ends up disqualified. I don't get it."

Seriously, is there anything about Mitt Romney that the media is allowed to talk about?

Mit Romney is super, super, rich. Can we talk about how super rich he is, or investigate exactly how rich he is?
No, that's off limits.

Mitt Romney's executive government experience was as governor or Massachusetts, can we talk about that or investigate how he governed Massachusetts?
No, that's off limits.

Mitt Romney cites his business experience as a key factor why he is the preferable candidate, can we talk about or investigate anything that actually happened by or to the company that he ran?
No, that's off limits.

Jesus, OK. Ummmm...what about the things he's actually saying *right now*? Can we copy and paste the things he's actually saying and report that?
No, that's off limits. Shove it up your ass.

Good. Let's go with that. Romney distilling what is pretty much the most complex geopolitical situation in place on the globe today to "You know how I know we're the just, right, and civil fellas and they're the shambling, barbaric demi-primates? Because you manage to make twice as much," bereft of any cultural bigotry or inert racism, leaves him just being a moron who would be a terrible leader for a country desperately trying to resuscitate its middle class.

And I gotta be honest, an insightful, politically cunning guy with a few personality flaws due to being an old white religious turd is a lot more appealing to me than a moron, because the moron is being run by a committee that I can't evaluate and hasn't shown any promise in the previous 8 years they were allowed to run an old white religious turd with a few personality flaws.

Republicans are always blaming the left-wing-liberal-drive-by-media-conspiracy-theory for any bad press. That's a proven strategy to get the press to treat you with kid gloves. I'm a bit more disturbed that he'd use a metaphor referencing a system of slave-owning theocrats so bad that we call the time of its dominance "the dark ages" than that he forgot the specifics of the metaphor.

//For reference, in the system he's referring to, the first estate is the clergy, the second estate were hereditary rulers of mankind, and the third estate was the rest of us, who were essentially chattel. "The fourth estate" was a sarcastic term in the 1920s for journalists who acted like their job was granted by divine right. The original metaphor comes from feudal france, where if you'll recall things were so bad even in the 1700s that the only viable solution was literally to murder all of the nobles and most of the priests and start from scratch.

//Not that I'm really ragging on Romney for this, he's not that bright or well-educated and likely doesn't know anything beyond the fourth estate vaguely meaning the media. And yet (as evidenced by Mittens' complaint in TFA), they'll still complain. I forget who it was who said - alllll the way back in 199...3(?) that harping on a "liberal media" was just the GOP "working the refs", but it appears that's now the entirety of their media strategy.

Romney camp: "You're all in the tank for Obama! Why u no report favorably for us? Kiss my ass, don't ask any questions now! Why are you so focused on my tax returns and not Obama's systematic destruction of all things good and decent? The Fourth Estate is useless!"
*Journalists record and report on those statements*
Romney camp: "WTF"

If you want the media to stop reporting stupid shiat, stop doing stupid shiat. You can save or create a trillion jobs, and they won't call you Mitt the Job Creator. You tell one group of reporters to "Kiss my ass", though...

Well, there was this from Salon, quoting Mitt's speech to Israeli fundraisers:

Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the GDP in Israel? 8 percent. You spend 8 percent of GDP on health care. And you're a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18 percent of our GDP on health care. 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, let me compare that with the size of our military. Our military budget is 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of GDP. We have to find ways, not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to finally manage our health care costs.

So, yes, Mitt supports government mandated, tax funded, non profit healthcare. For Israelis.

"They'll instead try and find anything else to divert from the fact that these last four years have been tough years for our country."

Is this some form of pandering to the FOX news audience? or he is really that clueless about basic history and facts? Neither of them seems likely to get him votes outside the echo chamber.

Y'know, it could be the Fourth Estate, could be the Fifth or Eighth. Are bloggers an estate? Can a simple $12 dollar beachfront home with a car elevator be considered an Estate?

So basically what you are saying is that you are an official/unofficial Flack for the Romney Campaign...or do you just have the UN report at your fingertips just in case you might need it for something.

oh and by the way what Romnwey said is not just offensive to the Palestinians (who actually are historically one of the more successful of the Arab peoples) , but also it totally plays into an age old stereotype that the Jews are really good at economics and other things related to making lots and lots of money.

Looks like Romney is worried that the US press got a reminder from overseas journalists what actual reporting is like. He's just trying to remind them that they need to know their place as dispensers of campaign press releases and to keep their "liberal bias" under control.

There may well be a report, written by Arabs, blaming their poor economies on cultures that tolerate corruption and don't value education. Those may well be the major impediments to growth in, say, Jordan. However, the largest impediment to growth in Palestine, according to the World Bank and the IMF, is the Israeli occupation.

Ok lets talk,

1. Repeal Obamacare, reduce regulations on business, Plus his election will spark business growth in general because he is not anti business like PBO.

2. Russia is our biggest international foe, he said they are always standing up for the bad actors and cited Russia's veto of sanctions on Syria. Or were you making a comment on "Soviet Union". Is that your point, someone misspeaks and thats your point, kinda like 57 states.

3. We stand with Israel, you may not like that but we do. Since Iran's, and many other middle east countries, stated goal is the destruction of Israel then if they attack, we will be in there aiding them in one way or another.

4. OK this is how you libs roll similar to calling a raise in taxes a tax cut for the wealthy. Romney did not call for a surge, he said he generally agrees with PBO's move to pull out the troops by 2014 but is not with PBO on an arbitrary pull out of 23000 troops on Sept 30. He said he would leave that decision to the military commanders based on the conditions on the ground. I guess in your convoluted way of thinking that is a surge.

5. I don't even know what you are talking about, nuke iran? Citation please because most western nations believe that a nuclear Iran does not lead to stability in the region. That is what the nuclearization of Iran issue is, not nuking Iran.

Fart_Machine: I thought the British first used it to refer to the press reporting on activities by Parliament.

Yep, in the mid-19th century. The first three "estates" were coined about half a millennium earlier, to cover the clergy, nobles, and townsmen - the "fourth estate" originally represented the public opinion, which has no owners, no accountability, and which scares the crap out of the ruling classes. It's been pinned, on a regular basis, to lawyers, mobs, and, lastingly, to the press.

It's a disparaging term, but only when uttered by the ruling classes - which is why I find it amusing that Romney, clearly a member of the second estate, can't even use it effectively as an insult.

You've kinda defeated your point in your own post.

You point out that Obama is wealthy, which nobody disputes. Nobody vilifies Warren Buffett for his wealth, nor Bill Gates, nor Oprah. So it raises the question, why aren't people "outraged" by their wealth? The answer is fairly obvious: folks aren't outraged by wealth per se.

Romney's wealth isn't offensive in and of itself, it's offensive because of how he acquired it (Bain, "vulture" capitalism, etc.), how he maintains it (ref. tax returns questions, offshore accounts and so forth), and how it isolates him from the very people he purports to represent ("you people", the infamous waiters remark, etc.)

I would say sheltered from consequence. Desertion during Vietnam? No problem. Coke arrest? Here, sweep that under this rug. Forget to tell the SEC you sold Harken stock at inflated value? Well, he's kind of an idiot so it's probably a legit goof. And the only reason he was allowed to fail a third time (I'd argue that he was no great shakes with the Rangers. We get it, he is white.

There's a word for people who say something as moronic, idiotic, downright retarded as what you just said. It's on the tip of my (virtual) tongue, but I just can't say it. Anybody? Any ideas what you would call someone who said the most micro encephalic things, like "we get it, he is white"?

Whats that you say? All I can hear is "I don't like right wingers because they are mostly white men".

EyeballKid: sprawl15: vernonFL: Okay, lets talk about:

Romney's positions are very clear and straightforward. It's not difficult to get them right:

vernonFL: the economy, What would Romney do to fix it? Besides tax cuts for the wealthy?

Repeal Obamacare.

vernonFL: to geopolitics

Repeal Obamacare.

vernonFL: to the threat of war

Repeal Obamacare.

vernonFL: to the reality of conflict in Afghanistan today

Repeal Obamacare.

vernonFL: to a nuclearization of Iran

Repeal Obamacare.

Obviously, you haven't heard his other revolutionary idea. What if we give the richest Americans...cuts...in their taxes?

And then ... DE-REGULATE ALL THE THINGS!

I don't like right wingers and they're mostly white men. Are you under the impression no liberal has ever voted for a white man? How would that even be possible?

Buffalo77: Ok lets talk,

1) repealing the ACA is a mistake long term. the reducing regulations thing would really depend on the particular regulation(s). the republican idea of simply getting rid of the EPA for example is ridiculous on it's face. to say that a US president is anti business is absurd. you may not like what he has done vis a vis business but Obama is not anti business.

2) substitute China in place of Russia in the sentence and you're on the way to understanding geopolitics in 2012.

3) mostly true but we don't give them carte blanche to attack anyone with the idea we will pick up the pieces.

4) if by "you lids" you are referring to vernonFL alone, ok. hope you didn't mean all liberals cuz that would just be wrong.

5) got to go with you again here. no idea where nuke Iran come from.

Is this some new right-wing meme I don't know about?

I think it's just very shorthand for President Barack Obama. I don't think it's a meme.

Lernaeus: Who cares?

Romney is a sh*thead for many reasons; anyone outraged by him being wealthy is a moron.

Barack Obama is a millionaire - and he got there by doing absolutely no productive work whatsoever!

Barack Obama was born middle-class, and worked his way up. Give me a farking break.

As for Romney, nobody's upset that he was born on third. The problem is, the sonofabiatch thinks he hit a triple, and demands that the rest of us hit triples too. With a wiffle-ball bat.

That's what I thought too. But it shows far too much respect. So that can't be it.

No, she's a woman. I can see your point, it's not the most flattering image of her. It's a still from Idiocracy.
