What idiot gave flamethrowers to wasps?

Egads Muffy, I fear we'll have to summer at Martha's Vineyard this year provided there aren't too many negroes.

Chinese wasps are the size of sparrows. I'd hit them from an armoured car.

Once used a can of starting fluid as a flamethrower on a wasp nest. Good times.

2012-08-01 03:28:12 AM
That's kinda cool looking, but I'd hate to be within a 5 mile radius when the farkers get organized and find the source of their problems.

I've fantasized myself about using one on annoying gnats, and especially mosquitoes.

I do not consider their method as overkill.

Huh. I had never seen a flamethrower held like that. I don't think I would like to be the guy that is stabilizing the flamethrower in the front as it looks like some of the incendiary was dripping.

I've used the flamethrower method for wasp killing before, though it has a lot of draw backs. They retain the power of flight for a short while even while combusting so they can start little fires in a radius around the hive as well as land on you... On Fire... Pissed Off.

Bottle Rockets can be amusing in their own right.

My go to method now though is using a Spray Attachment on my garden hose with Dawn Dish Detergent.. Robs the little farkers of their flying ability, suffocates them, and dissolves their wings. Also if they hit a puddle while covered in Dawn- they will sink.

Indeed.

Only because nukes are not yet small enough to take out a wasp nest and leave the eaves intact.

I wonder how the U S Army would do it since they've retired flamethrowers for the M202A1 rocket launcher.

"By NATO accord, we can't use this on personnel but we can use it on equipment. Equipment like tanks, trucks, jeeps, web gear."

2012-08-01 08:07:16 AM
Get off my lawn. Looks like they took the M202A1 out of service in '84. What do they rely on now? 40mm WP grenades?

Nope. Flamethrowers don't fall under federal regulation, and never have.

I read in an Audubon field guide a neat way to get rid of in-ground yellow-jacket nests, which sounds a lot neater than my last combo effort with ice, poison, and digging. (Haven't found a nest to try it on yet):

One night, put a glass bowl over the entrance. They will supposedly not attempt to go around or under it, just bang against it until starving.

"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."
