Also, there are some GREAT insights as to how Homosexuals think and how "busy" they are in the linked webpage.

Classic shiat, really:
We can bring out statistics on the number of partners homosexuals have: 43% of homosexuals say they have had 500 or more sexual partners in their lifetime. Braggart!

kmramki: Actually, I think it's time to update that. The current generation does care. They support equality. Even straight kids these days consider this important.

Yeah, but the linked video the quote comes from is way cool; enough that it would be hard to find a better quote/video combination to use as a replacement. But maybe something will turn up by when the GSS-2012 dataset comes out around next April.

gopher321: After reading the article, I don't see that quote or even that inference from subby's headline. Of course, finding out that everyone that this guy knows hates gay people would not surprise me in the least - I'm sure he surrounds himself with fellow bible thumpers and right wing toadies...but I don't get the headline.

It's probably already been answered already but the headline is a reference to a quote attributed to the late film critic Pauline Kael: "I don't understand how Nixon won. I don't know anybody who voted for him."

To be fair to Ms Kael, she claims she was taken out of context. She said that what she was really saying was that she didn't understand why anybody would vote for Nixon, but then she didn't know any Republicans. So basically, instead of being lost in her own naivete ("how could Nixon win when my circle of friends didn't vote for him?"), she claims she was admitting to her own naivete ("I don't understand Nixon's appeal, but then I don't associate with Nixon voters").

The point is to pay attention to the swing states.
It's more relevant than this tired and misleading one.

Now do one with 1960s polling on interracial marriage. I think you'll see a bit of overlap, especially in the south.

Hell, a lot of people still either want it illegal or "aren't sure".

Oh boo-hoo. "I'm a Christian, why does everyone hate/oppress me?! It's so unfair! All we ever do is love everyone and never do anything to harm anyone ever. Every single Christian on the planet is the nicest, most honest, and most loving person you could possibly hope to meet. IT'S SO UNFAIR!"

Hey hey....tough shiat, go read your book (what revision is it on now?) and take solace and comfort in the fact that you'll be going to heaven and all those meanies will burn for an eternity.

Yeah, like that!

Nailed it, then? So, the next step is for you to explain how I'm wrong in my assessment of your whine, especially when you win the Big Prize at the end of the game. I'd ask you to see how idiotic your position sounds, but I've tried logic and reason with Christians before. Unsurprisingly, they aren't very good at it.

How is that chart misleading? It basically says that younger generations are much more open to the idea of gay marriage and gay rights in general. It's only a matter of time before we reach a tipping point, as the more conservative generations die off and the younger generations become more involved in politics as they age. You can temporarily hold back gay marriage, but you are going to eventually be on the wrong side of history, just like older generations that protested race-mixing.

You can already see the effects of the younger generations' acceptance of gays in popular culture, where gay actors like NPH can be out and proud with no ill effects to their careers. Conservatives can appeal to the fears of older generations for a while, but they have to die someday.

As a great singer once said: "Come senators, congressmen/Please heed the call/Don't stand in the doorway/Don't block up the hall/For he that gets hurt/Will be he who has stalled."

Wow you really nailed it there dave. I guess tomorrow a bunch of Christians will be protesting at Starbucks because of there stance on gay partners health coverage. Starbucks is so gay isn't it.

So long as they're not trying to persuade the government to continue limiting the freedoms of others, who cares?

Who's whining? All I'm asking is: Why do you have to hate people with whom you disagree? Can't you just disagree with them? I haven't said anything hateful to anyone, yet you claim I'm whining and call my position idiotic. How does that help?

See that bolded part up there? That's whining.

Here's another thought for you. If you want people to stop "hating Christians", do something to make your group be less prone to being hated. Something like not trying to legislate your beliefs.

That would be neat if christians like Pat Robertson could do just that. If they could only disagree with the gays instead of dumping huge sums of money preventing them from having the same rights as straight people, or vocally opposing them and saying sh*tty hateful things in the media... this wouldn't be an issue.

Sorry, you meant the people who oppose christian hatred, not the christians themselves.

Spaz-master: It's more relevant than this tired and misleading one.

Relevant to the current election cycle? Possibly.

On the other hand, it's also pretty misleading, as most of those bans were passed relatively early on, back when the national opposition for gay marriage was running circa 60-35 rather than the current 45-50; and most of the states with bans are relatively conservative.

Mad_Radhu: How is that chart misleading?

Well, there's a lot of people who think the dates at the bottom are year-of-poll rather than year-of-birth-for-person-asked; however, I'm not sure how much clearer "Cohort By Decade" can get. Maybe "decade-grouped birth Cohort"?

It's also misleading, in that it understates the trend, by treating the birth cohort attitudes as static. All the birth cohorts are also becoming more accepting with time. Doing a 3-D plot would be a royal pain-in-the-ass. I suppose I could work on it, but I'm lazy.

Mad_Radhu: As a great singer once said: "Come senators, congressmen/Please heed the call/Don't stand in the doorway/Don't block up the hall/For he that gets hurt/Will be he who has stalled."

The next verse seems more appropriate to the graphic:

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you can't understand.
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command:
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
