dr_blasto: Hmm. Rep. King... sounds familiar.

Wait! Isn't he the supporter of terrorism? You know, the guy who actually held fundraisers for terrorists?

Whoa. Wrong republican. The other Rep. King (R) is the one who supports terrorists. This Rep. King (R) supports dogfighting. My bad. Hard to tell the shiatbags apart.

MBK: James!: Republicans really don't understand the concept of consent.

You own a dog (like a woman). You don't need consent.

I can destroy my property without breaking the law. Why can't I use my property to fight another person's property?

No.

You own your house, but if you burn it down it is a crime. You own your dog, but you can't shoot it in the head when you get sick of it pooping on the rug. So no, you can't force your dog to fight because there are laws against that too.

So right out the gate your analogy is bad, and you should feel bad for attempting it.

Huggermugger: He's obviously got some sort of constituency he's doing this for.

The question is, who could they be, and how many of them could there possibly be? I mean, I can't imagine that there are a whole lot of soybean farmers who have that much blood lust.

As an Iowan (and sadly yes, this psychotic dickbag is from my home district), the only explananation I can offer is this:

Back in 2002, then-Congressman Greg Ganske decided to make a play for Senator Tom Harkin's seat (but he would have to not run for re-election to Congress in order to do so). Oddly enough, in spite of the holocaust that the Democrats suffered that election, Harkin not only beat Ganske, but did so in a landslide.

In the vacuum left during the media attention of the Harkin-Ganske battle, along sneaks in this skeevy little punk from the IA legislature and wins Ganske's old slot.

Since that time, King has never authored one single bill of legislation (which might be a blessing, considerring the horrid views he has) nor has he ever accepted a challenge to a debate during any elections since.

And King knows that the key to his continuing career is to keep his name in the news, regardless of how disgusting or outrageous his comments are. The secret of winning an election isn't about how qualified you are, but how deeply implanted your name is in the average voters' psyche. Well-known creep will clobber unknown good guy every time.

Add to the fact that the IA Democratic Party is a co-conspirator to helping King hold onto power. Election after election, they put up some unknown creampuff with no working campaign budget for King to utterly obliterate.

In short, King is in office not because he has plenty of voters who support him. It's that the IA Demo Party refuses to provide a vigorous challenge to his reign of terror.

Steve King has no business living in this country, much less representing its citizenry. This is the guy that spouted this garbage out of his fool mouth:

"I don't want to disparage anyone because of their race, their ethnicity, their name - whatever their religion their father might have been," I'll just say this: When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam? I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror. Additionally, his middle name (Hussein) does matter. It matters because they read a meaning into that in the rest of the world...If he were strong on national defense and said 'I'm going to go over there and we're going to fight and we're going to win, we'll come home with a victory,' that's different. But that's not what he said. They will be dancing in the streets if he's elected president. That has a chilling aspect on how difficult it will be to ever win this Global War on Terror."

During a tele-townhall late last week, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) fielded a question about his opposition to animal rights and recently introduced legislation that would undermine local standards preventing animal torture. "It's wrong to rate animals above human beings," he told the questioner.

Why is it morons like him always seem to make the idiotic leap in logic that - somehow magically - if you want some creature to simply not be forced to suffer needlessly then that means you are somehow valuing their lives above human lives? It's almost as if it's not just a small penis he's trying to overcompensate for, but actually an utter lack of basic human decency.

Is that the answer to why we can or why we can't?

Blood sports just ruffle everyone's feathers around here.

I know, right? Not a self-proclaimed "alpha male" sexual Tyrannosaurus in sight. Just a bunch of limp-wristed left wingers in colorful t-shirts who think that inflicting needless pain is somehow "bad." That argument falls down on so many levels, but the most basic one, that they never have an answer for, is this: If I can't feel the pain, how is it possibly bad in any way? My pain, sure, I can relate to that, we should legislate against that. Other people and animals going through pain, though, why should I care about that? What're they gonna do for me? If they could pay us to stop torturing them, then sure, but I don't see no dog-money, sister. You know what dogs trade in? Butt sniffs. If I want my butt sniffed, I'll fling a nickel at my local gimp-for-hire, Limber Limbaugh.

Great_Milenko: I've actually wondered this myself. People will step over homeless people in the street, spew venom at welfare recipients, and demand capital punishment for any number of non-capital offenses. They condone war, torture, and ignore the plight of refugees. Homeless? Tough. No insurance? Should have thought of that before you got sick.

But abuse a dog, and HOLY fark!, do they get outraged.

You might want to pay a little more attention. The people who tend to get outraged at animal abuse are also the ones who tend to get outraged about unjust wars, lack of healthcare, torture, the plight of refugees, etc... You know, general injustice.

Jews, Muslims and other non-Christians? Small minority. Sure they vote in overwhelming numbers compared to the general population, but they don't have Jesus in their hearts so we can do without them.

Gays? Women? People who live in big cities? Sinners all of them. Their America isn't the nation we love. We can do without them.

because around about the time we stopped hanging kids for pick-pocketing we recognized a legal difference between inanimate objects and living creatures we owned as property and recognized that society had a right to set minimum standards of decency for how we treat living property (and limit the thickness of the rod you beat your wife with)
