Vegan Meat Popsicle: Hotdog453: I fail to see how views like this could help him. I mean, hating on gays? Sure, people hate gays. Hating on African Americans? Sure, large swaths of the country are racist. But is there really enough people who enjoy seeing dogs fight other dogs to warranty pandering to that demographic? It seems so... forced and awkward.

Dumb hillbillies love to kill and torture animals. It fits right into the inbred, uneducated, buck-toothed demographic of brainless hicks he's courting.

Really? Are there that many hillbillies in his district? That seems... stunning. Not doubting you, just... stunned. Seems like a very risky thing to like, "dogs forced to kill other dogs", his district must be disgusting and terrible.

Actually, dogs aren't people. They're better creatures, and often don't kill other dogs. I mean, they can inflict grievous injury and death, and be trained to finish it, but it's rare. That's why Michael Vick is so evil. He killed the dogs that lost.

"We're Here. We're Evil. Get used to it"

I think this is the GOP just embracing who they are and throwing off the shackles of shame.

the hillbillies are mostly democrats and there aren't very many. in fact, quite often, there is literally no one else on the ballot except republicans out here although the democrats occasionally offer up a token for slaughter with almost no funds. I sure hope king gets his ass handed to him by christie vilsack this year but i worked for the state under her husband and found his administration...more than slightly schmuckish.

once again, it is the rich dutch reformed farmers from the northwest bankrolling steve-o. you know...those people who moved to either south africa or iowa. they are an odious bunch of yahoos.

It's not that hard, Steve-o. Humans volunteer to fight each other, and they get paid to do it. Dogs are forced to fight and their "payment" is years of abuse, neglect, and torture. He needs to watch some Animal Cops.

2012-07-31 07:41:56 PM
Oh, by the way, dogfighting is one of the main causes of dog attacks on children, indirect though it may be.

So feel free to add that to the list of things Republicans are for.

Steve King has no business living in this country, much less representing its citizenry. This is the guy that spouted this garbage out of his fool mouth:

"I don't want to disparage anyone because of their race, their ethnicity, their name - whatever their religion their father might have been," I'll just say this: When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam? I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror. Additionally, his middle name (Hussein) does matter. It matters because they read a meaning into that in the rest of the world...If he were strong on national defense and said 'I'm going to go over there and we're going to fight and we're going to win, we'll come home with a victory,' that's different. But that's not what he said. They will be dancing in the streets if he's elected president. That has a chilling aspect on how difficult it will be to ever win this Global War on Terror."

That kinda explains it. South Africa was known for being a very backwards country culturally because of the influence the Dutch reformed folks had on the Apartheid-era governement there.

For example, they didn't have TV until the 1970's while much poorer countries to the north of them got TV earlier.

Fluorescent Testicle: Oh, by the way, dogfighting is one of the main causes of dog attacks on children, indirect though it may be.

Adding to this, because why not: Abused fighting and bait dogs are often given away to unwitting families when they've reached the end of their "Usefulness," they breed for natural aggression that wouldn't exist otherwise, and they rarely (if ever) fence their dogs. I used to work in animal control and every single dog that attacked a person had been owned at some point by a fighter or abuser.

How are Democrats just as bad, and therefore we should vote Republican?

MBK: James!: Republicans really don't understand the concept of consent.

You own a dog (like a woman). You don't need consent.

I can destroy my property without breaking the law. Why can't I use my property to fight another person's property?

because around about the time we stopped hanging kids for pick-pocketing we recognized a legal difference between inanimate objects and living creatures we owned as property and recognized that society had a right to set minimum standards of decency for how we treat living property (and limit the thickness of the rod you beat your wife with)

I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't something seriously psychologically wrong with Rep King, the kind of wrong you find in the DSM under the disorders ending in -path

Steve King is a piece of shiat.

A good rule of thumb is to stay the hell out of western Iowa. I live in Iowa, I've lived here my whole life, and western Iowa is pretty evil. Full of small-minded conservatives, yeah, but there's also just an evil *vibe* out there. It really does feel like 33% of the population are serial killers.

2012-07-31 08:30:09 PM
African-Americans? Yeah, we lost them to the southern strategy 40 years ago. It's ok. We can do without them.

Hispanics? They're conservative but our base hates them, calls them wetbacks and illegals. Whatever. We can do without them.

Jews, Muslims and other non-Christians? Small minority. Sure they vote in overwhelming numbers compared to the general population, but they don't have Jesus in their hearts so we can do without them.

Gays? Women? People who live in big cities? Sinners all of them. Their America isn't the nation we love. We can do without them.

Dog owners? Animal lovers? Probably all vegetarian liberal nuts already so there is no point in worrying about their votes. We can do fine without them.

That would be a great bit of comeuppance for the Iowa GOP. They've spent the last 15 years doing everything they can to drive young and/or educated people out of this state, and to prevent any innovative businesses from setting up shop. In return, their most right-wing stronghold was merged into areas where people don't receive all of their news from Fox News or a church bulletin. Hopefully all the college students get involved this year - I don't want to see this election result in anything less than utter humiliation for King and his disciples.

I know, right? Not a self-proclaimed "alpha male" sexual Tyrannosaurus in sight. Just a bunch of limp-wristed left wingers in colorful t-shirts who think that inflicting needless pain is somehow "bad." That argument falls down on so many levels, but the most basic one, that they never have an answer for, is this: If I can't feel the pain, how is it possibly bad in any way? My pain, sure, I can relate to that, we should legislate against that. Other people and animals going through pain, though, why should I care about that? What're they gonna do for me? If they could pay us to stop torturing them, then sure, but I don't see no dog-money, sister. You know what dogs trade in? Butt sniffs. If I want my butt sniffed, I'll fling a nickel at my local gimp-for-hire, Limber Limbaugh.

He's obviously got some sort of constituency he's doing this for.

You've obviously never tangled with the soybean, son. You get out there in those soybean fields, it's like I imagine 'Nam would've been if I hadn't avoided it. Anyway you check and see if them soybeans are ripe, you lean over a little bit... next thing you know, that soybean rolls over and it's black like the eye of a shark who's not really interested. You straighten up, and BAM! A gay just married you. He married you. You gotta take it out on something.

I've actually wondered this myself. People will step over homeless people in the street, spew venom at welfare recipients, and demand capital punishment for any number of non-capital offenses. They condone war, torture, and ignore the plight of refugees. Homeless? Tough. No insurance? Should have thought of that before you got sick.

But abuse a dog, and HOLY fark!, do they get outraged.

Sure, it's impossible to be pissed off about two different things. I remember when I set my last dog on fire, he's all running around, "You broke the contract between man and dog!" and I'm like, "Sorry, I can't care about you anymore. A human is in pain!" and then I stripped off my suit and flew out the window.

Yes. Yes we do. King has the right to his opinion. But his disregard for the welfare of animals make it clear, in my opinion, that he has no place in Congress. I hope he continues to spout off in favor of legalizing dog-fighting. Maybe that will encourage his constituents to vote him out of office.

Actually, my impression from his, "only property-owning males should vote," is that he just honestly wants an idealized 1800s where he believes he would be a "gentleman farmer" who owned slavesa huge farm and women knew their placetradition was king and local entertainment was barbaricmen could indulge in proper gentlemanly pursuits like hunting and dogfighting and hookers and blowsuch.

You might want to pay a little more attention. The people who tend to get outraged at animal abuse are also the ones who tend to get outraged about unjust wars, lack of healthcare, torture, the plight of refugees, etc... You know, general injustice.
