(Gizmodo)   Amazingly, the new HOTMAIL may be the best email service out there, but switching to it will never eliminate the stigma of being trapped in the year 1998   (gizmodo.com) divider line 9

Why all the hotmail hate? It is just a free eMail program. For farks sake I've had mine since, well I can't really remember anymore when I got that account and it has served me well as public eMail address and spam catcher.

Of course I also have several Yahoo, GMail, Charter, and other various eMail accounts I used to sign up for one peice of shiat thing or another.

Got my hotmail address before Microsoft bought them up (1996?).

Unfortunately, I get a lot of assholes who use my username with a hotmail.com as filler for their various website registrations. Often, I'll just change their password and be done with it (since it comes to my inbox to reset.change it).

Occasionally, I get something like a "BlackPlanet" or "SugarDaddy" dating site, and I'll make an outrageous profile... the later was a methhead who made it clear she wanted her sugar daddy to provide some crack, crystal meth, or other drugs to party. Strangely enough, that and the profile pic are not enough to deter some amorous idiots.

At least I did get a free premium Brazzers account, where I promptly starting downloading copious amounts of HD porn (as premium prices), since the moron had put his credit card number in. This lasted for a couple of weeks, before the idiot must have canceled his card (or the wife saw the charges, heh heh). I have ZERO sympathy for people that can't be bothered to put a legit e-mail in a registration... at the very least, you can get temporary addresses for this purpose. The way I see it, he gifted MY account the free porn.

It's also strange that I don't get a lot of spam through it, though.

Say what you will, but that web interface is really frigg'n fast. The interface looks almost identical to Outlook 2013.

/daily hotmail user for . . . 11 years now.

LasersHurt: Guys, Hotmail hasn't changed yet.

I know what you're saying, but it sure has changed over the years, and not for the better. It used to be lean and fast and stable. It's gone downhill mostly steadily since MS bought it.

Outlook is a crumbly pile of crap with suspicious hairs sticking out of it, but . . . frankly, this "Outlook" upgrade to Hotmail looks like an actual upgrade. Wait and see, but I'm weirdly optimistic.

Gmail keeps getting crappier and crappier as they keep 'improving' it stupidly downward. If Hotmail actually becomes good again, that would not bother me at all.

OH look, someone shoved a crap ton of cash to gawker to shill a product again.

Not as blatant as yesterday's "Zynga isn't evil and is actually innovative" 4 page puff peice but still reeks.

Did anybody else think they were reading an advertisement from Microsoft instead of an objective review article?

czei: And people say that Microsoft doesn't innovate... Now that everyone under 20 has switched to social media Microsoft finally fixed their embarrassing free email.

Why did it need to change?

Remember the whole New Coke debacle?

HOTMaiL is an iconic website representing the web of old. Hotmail was the first successful free email service out there.

This is akin to when GeoCities shut down two and a half years ago.

Can you get an "[nospam-﹫-backwards]loa*com" email for free yet? I'd like to initiate nerd rage every time people see my email address.
