Looking back on the films, seems to me Batman wasn't around Gotham very long - in 'Batman Begins', he showed up initially taking down Marconi the crime boss, and from there to the end of the fime was what? A matter of days to the final defeat of that Raz al'Gul dude. At the end of the film, the Joker was just starting to appear in Gotham...

Then in TDK, from the beginning of the movie, to the end, again was just a matter of days. (If I'm skipping any great lengths of time some one let me know) It is a little vague how much time passed in between the first and second films though.

Then 8 years pass.

And in TDKR, again it's a short fewdays Bats is around until his "exile" and then his reappeaarance that was less than 24hrs.

All in all, BAtman didn't hang around Gotham all that long.
