The Cards have supposedly traded away their top 3B prospect Zach Cox for Edward Mujica, a reliever from Miami. 28 year old Mujica is a journeyman righthanded reliever who is carrying a 4.38 ERA and 1.154 WHIP in 39 innings so far this year. He's previously played for San Diego and Cleveland and has one year of arbitration left. He just came off the DL earlier this month after Placido Polanco broke his toe with a line drive.

Cox is a 2010 first rounder out of the University of Arkansas. He's moved quickly, joining the AAA Memphis team this year, but slumped badly and suffered a concussion in June that put him on the DL. He's recovered somewhat since then, hitting .254 now with 9 HR and a .716 OPS. He was also a top 100 prospect last year.

I'm pretty sure the Cards overpayed for what sounds to me like a 7th inning guy, but they must be pretty sure about Freese and down on Cox to make this move.

bulldg4life: Report: Marlins looking to offload the ridiculous center field carnival attraction, as well

I'm waiting for the day that the Marlins sell off every single one of their players for cash. Not just the the major leaguers either. I'm talkin' every player in the entire organization, from top to bottom. The guys on the DL, the guys in rookie league, the bat boy in A ball, everyone.

They have a new stadium that they could sell. I hear the A's and the Rays might be interested at the right price.

gsiofa: Orgasmatron138: The Bestest: Dempster to Yankees could be a thing...

I'm thinking this is the Cubs trying whatever they can to get leverage on the Dodgers. Dempster kind of farked the whole thing up because he wants to be a baby about where he's playing for the next 8 weeks.

Not necessarily being a baby. I read he wants a two-year extension from whatever team goes after him. If he is fighting for an extension it is certainly valid for him to only pick a city that works for him and his family.

The word going around is that he originally said he'd accept a trade to Atlanta, but changed his mind after Cubs' management hammered out a deal for one of Atlanta's top prospects. Dempster is NOT popular with the Cubs right now.

Who the hell knows? If we weren't going to make a run this year, the least they could've done was start moving some guys like Choo and Perez to maximize their trade value and get guys who will be ready to make a run next year. Instead, we're standing pat while the White Sox and the Tigers are still piling on talent.

Wouldn't surprise me to hear that they had to back out of a deal after Sweeney broke his hand punching a wall. You know, since they have eleventy outfielders right now.

So, who's putting together the recap post? Sounds like Marlins sold, Yankees bought, Philly dumped, Atlanta and San Fran are both going for it, and Cleveland ... well, was Cleveland.

I'm too lazy to actually grab all the transactions or comment on any of them, so somebody else do it.

Wallace "Certified Retard" Matthews said that Qualls came back to the clubhouse, took off his cap, picked up his cell phone, and walked out.

In other news, Joba Chamberlain might be activated in time for tonight's game. Qualls would have been gone when Joba was ready anyway

Dempster actually has a higher xFIP than Oswalt this year. I don't love xFIP, but that suggests they'll probably be closer than you're thinking.

I just want to know what was up with that one AA start last year. "Hey, this guy has been a reliever in A- all year. Let's have him start in AA. Oh he sucked."
