Watch Layer Cake, it's widely regarded as the movie that got him a shot at the role in the first place. Similar to a Guy Ritchie Brit-Crime movie like Lock, Stock in lots of ways. Great cast to boot.

So this movie looks farking awesome so far. I'm not sure if i will be able to view the villain as anything but who he was in No Country for Old Men.

It was only natural. He tried to be a nice guy, but his film bombed at the box office. He has to have a motive for his revenge. Goldeneye came out the same year as his film, so there you go.

The special effects are 40 years old and were done before the shuttle even launched for real.

The approach to the space station and the reveal out of the darkness with the music is a classic Bond moment.

Also, Moonraker has a great script - especially Drax.

Moonraker has, IMHO, one of the very best pre-title action sequences in the Bond films (the free-fall fistfight over possession of a parachute). Unfortunately, the movie gets progressively worse from there -- with some of the lowest moments in the entire Bond series (chief among them: the pigeon doing a 'double-take' during the Venice chase scene).

I have a similar opinion of Die Another Day ... the pre-title sequence, and the first 30 minutes or so, is among the finest of Pierce Brosnan's turn as James Bond. But -- beginning with the fencing competition -- the movie gets progressively more ludicrous with each scene, dipping even below Moonraker-badness, on occasion (Bond windsurfing on an iceburg-tsunami, the villain's 'powerglove, etc).

The sci-fi jump of Moonraker + the blaxpoitation of Live and Let Die = enough to damn Roger Moore.

/And don't even make me mention him creaking around in A View to a Kill.

My favorite Bond movies from all 5 previous bonds:

Connery - From Russia with Love. IMO better than Goldfinger as the whole Red Grant/Bond cat-and-mouse duel ends up having Bond almost killed until he is able to reverse Red's garotte on himself.

Lazenby - Default. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I liked it.

Moore - For Your Eyes Only. For me it maintained a realism, nothing like Moonraker. I sorta admire plots where World Domination/Global Annihilation isn't the big picture. Instead it was just a fight over a top secret device from a Submarine.

Dalton - License to Kill. Underrated movie, as I don't think people were ready to get away from the Bond series that Roger Moore set. Where it was bordering on a fantasy, and not being realistic. Instead Dalton goes Rogue to avenge Felix attack and his Wife's Murder. Made best when Bond uses the lighter on Sanchez, setting him ablaze in a Punisher-like fashion.

Brosnan - Tomorrow Never Dies. I felt it was the best of the films but Goldeneye is right there. For me Carver's plan of having a Newspaper front to broadcast his shady terrorist background is more a devious plan then to simply use a EMP Blast to erase any stolen money transactions.

Not a big James Bond fan, but the trailer for this movie looked awesome.
