Regular Show is a nice cartoon. It pales in comparison to freakin' Adventure Time and Ponies, but it's really solid on its own merits. We live in a golden age of animation once more.

It's true. The early 90's gave us Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, The Simpsons, Darkwing Duck, Batman, and a bunch of others. They were amazing and simultaneous.

The late 90's and early 2000s gave us very little in blocs like that. First a Dexter's Lab or a Futurama would come, then it would go. Then the next drop would fall into the IV with a Powerpuff Girls or a Family Guy. Drip drip drip.

Now, finally, we can actually be overwhelmed with good cartoons again.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure is that kind of movie where if you bring it up in casual conversation or quote it when not in the company of fellow nerds, you're lucky if at least one person in the room feigns laughter over your forced passing reference to the Alamo being devoid of a basement.

Bullsh*t.

Or you could just have paid attention to the Japanese animation industry and have been overwhelmed with good shows for the last 15 years.

Believe or not, I'd add Phineas and Ferb to that list (the first thing from Disney Channel in over a decade that didn't suck).

It's made by the same folks who did Rocko's Modern Life so it's made in that similar style.

I don't think I can agree with you. As good as you think it is now it's still not close to the early/mid 90s.

I could never get into Adventure Time, but Regular Show kills me every single time. I'm amazed at what gets by the censors.

I'm convinced that the entire show is really a shared acid trip of two guys working at a convenience store. The park and characters are all their fevered drug-induced imaginings of what's really going on around them.

It's odd, I watch it with the kids but they don't get half the jokes because they reference things to the 70's, 80's and 90's a lot.

Regular Show I think is one of those shows you're either going like it or hate it, there is no gray area.

My kid likes it, even though he doesn't get all the jokes. I will say one thing though, it's been a bit of a bad influence on him since he's just recently started to talk back to me the way Mordecai and Rigby talk to each other.

I like it because of the references it throws in there, and little details that you have to be a little older to get.

It's one of the rare cases where 'my mom' jokes works against the target as well.

I must not be paying as much attention as the "censors" apparently are. What exactly do people think they are sneaking by them? I know the humor is a little bit more adult given that the main characters seem to be 20-something slackers but I can't say I've noticed anything where I thought I should cover my daughter's ears or eyes.

Well I'd be hard pressed to call it nerdy. It does make a lot of references to some nerdy things that were big back in the day, but I wouldn't call the show nerdy or nerd like.

I was once told in an Adventure Time thread that Flapjack was for twelve year olds while Regular Show and Adventure Time are high brow, thought provoking pieces of art.

After that conversation I turned my computer off for the rest of the day and went for a long stroll.
