GOOOOAAAAAALLLL!

rudemix: I watched the mens gymnastics last night. They didn't show the score of the final British floor tumbling, they didn't show the score of the Japanese who was on the pommel that had the score challenged, they didn't show a final score until it was all over, then only briefly. For about 15-20 minutes, during the Brits run to bronze, vault to silver, slip back to bronze they didn't show a score. I was pretty annoyed.

THIS.

The coverage was a COMPLETE joke. NBC should be ashamed
Last night at the end of mens gymnastics 10 minutes went by as my wife and I sat there WAITING for NBC to display a scoreboard, post who won, etc. Everyone was cheering but we had no idea why. "Wtf just happened?!" "I don't know." "Did the Brits win?!" "I don't know."

10 minutes later...

"Did the Brits get gold or silver? They are acting like they got gold. What was that thing with Japan...I didn't even know they were in it. What is going on?!!"

"I HAVE NO IDEA!! DISPLAY THE SCORE! What is happening in this event NBC. WTF?!!"

Ok, I get the US is a powerhouse in swimming or something. But I don't like watching swimming. Can I please just have a gymnastics block, maybe show the routines of those other countries you keep mentioning? There was one point that made me really grumpy because someone apparently had a huge vault, which the announcers mentioned. Yet they didn't bother to show it or anything, instead they just sat around staring at the US mens gymnastic team. It's vault, it takes like 10 seconds to show the routine.

Kurmudgeon: Pray 4 Mojo: I don't mind the NBC lockdown on Olympic coverage... that's the world we live in today

Yes, the world where I don't watch tv.

Would like to get there myself.

I occasionally go 3-4 months stretches w/out 'TV' (still have the vidya games and DVD's, just no satellite)... it's odd how little I miss it after a few days. It's football season that starts to hurt a little.

NBC's streaming is terrible. The commercials are so frequent and always crash my Flash player (Win7, Firefox, gaming laptop). There is a program that gives me a UK VPN connection so I can watch the BBC iPlayer. No Flash crashing.
/Also miss being able to watch unblocked CBC Olympic coverage on TV
//Canada is such a lovable underdog on the Summer Games

All right. I guess I'm technologically sunk.

Using something like Anonymouse, how do I get the video player itself to work?

At least they're not doing back-to-back-to-back "athlete overcomes terrible adversity to become olympian" stories, like they used to.

/I started watching in '72, the gold standard of Olympic coverage.

I'm using Expat Shield. I usually have to get my programmer husband to help me with most anything, but I got Expat Shield up by myself, quickly and easily. A quick download, it puts a shortcut on your desktop. So you just open a browser, click on the shortcut and then you can get to BBC Sport. You don't have to do anything to get a video player to work, just click on the video you want to see.

I think CTV's coverage is pretty good. I still prefer the Olympics on CBC though

They're not American so nobody cares. Duh.

That's the main problem I always have with the coverage. It's not an attempt to show the sport and the competition, it's mostly about showing the US winning. If the US didn't win, you're not going to see much no matter how great it was.

I think teh worst coverage I can remember seeing was from I believe the Barcelona games. That was when they put the games on PPV and you could watch them on the Red, White, or Blue channel. Good thing I was stealing cable then.

/off my lawn!!

THIS. It's been going on for as long as I can remember. Too bad the CBC seems to have been leaned on, their World Cup coverage was awesome, and Canada wasn't even involved.

I'm trying to do this to view the BBC videos, but it's forcing me to view their mobile site. Even when I strip the "mobile" bit out of the URL, it still reverts back. -.-

I'd suggest trying the iPlayer directly. Link work for you?

TFA says all events are available live. Is that true? Can we login to watch swimming/gymnastics during the day?

Yes, but you have to provide your cable account information, so that they can verify that you subscribe to cable.

Which screws me, since the way to do this with Charter is to log in with the Charter email address and password. Like I remember wtf that was. Like I even set that up (not sure they were offering how to do that when I had the cable installed).

I just did that today, with my parents' Charter account number and password (lord knows they never set it up). It took about 5 minutes, and then I was back to water polo.

suck it nerds and jocks. get cable or so other type other type of inter net provider and quit mooching. dill holes.

for YEARS i've been saying they should make the secondary audio channel just the ambient sounds of the events without commentary

2012-08-01 09:33:43 AM
I also love all the whiners complaining about how they need cable in order to get it.

At what point have you EVER been able to watch all the Olympic sports for free, legally? Never? Oh yeah, never. So stop acting as though you're not getting a service you used to get. There are around 50 events going on at any given time, they're not going to show you everything all at once on one channel to appease the one jackass on earth who wants to see that.

BTW, the reason other countries like Canada or the UK don't only show their athletes is because no one wants to NEVER SEE A MEDAL WINNER.

2012-08-01 09:55:08 AM
BTW, hope you guys had a lot of fun watching people intentionally lose at badminton. Yay Olympics! So important!
