I don't see how a family headed by two bears meets Westboro Baptist Chicken's marriage standard of one man and one woman.

If going after corporate Thoughtcrime is the 'in' thing these days, I suggest the right-wingers start with Ben & Jerry's for saying, "We stand with you" to Occupy Wall Street.

I can see Chick Fil-A's reaction if the books are pulled by the publisher.

PR D-bag: Chick Fil-A has decided to recall the Berenstain Bears books because they are potentially dangerous to children and may give them nasty papercuts.

The guy is a bible-banging dickhole, but it's a privately held company. He's entitled to his shiatty opinion and he can do what he wants with his business. I'm not going to stop eating spicy chicken sandwiches and waffle fries with lemonade because I don't agree with his politics.

Can someone explain why people are so shocked that a company that is run by very open-about-it Christians made some anti-gay remarks.

They probably should have kept their mouth shut, but it's not like you couldn't guess their position anyway.

The bible is chock full of sinners. Don't confuse their breaking of God's plan with permission to go and do likewise. It was Adam and Eve, not Abraham and Sarah and Hagar and his Concubines.

God hates divorce, too. Just sayin'.

Lesson: Business and politics don't mix. Business and religion don't mix. No matter what side you pick, people will hate you, just say nothing. I have been in sales for years. My clients don't know my political or religious views. I have clients that are pro-gay marriage and anti-gay marriage. Some are die hard republicans, others are die hard democrats. I want their money so I nod, agree and accept their monthly payments.

There's a woman in my office that "can't" eat Chinese because of all the MSG, but she shoves Chick-Fil-A in her gullet on the regular. People can't be bothered to know jack about the products they like.

Urban Outfitters sells Obama shirts to suburban hipsters and is run by Rick Santorum's buddy, and Forever 21 sells skankwear and they're run by Jesus freaks. I doubt the people who shop at both have a clue where their money goes.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

Do these people have brain AIDS or something? It's like they live in some weird mirror darkly universe where anyone gives a shiat about their closed minds and sky wizard.

pro tip: people usually don't mind that your a closed minded bigot if you don't cause waves. but if you can't stfu about it you may find people go out of their way to avoid you

There is a difference between a consumer boycott over a moronic, hate-filled statement and a government agency/elected official deciding to ban a business based on that same statement. One is choice, the other is a statism and anti-free speech.

Yeah the Chick-fil-a guy is an idiot for alienating customers, but until it can be proven that the do discriminate against GLBT customers or employees, it's just his opinion and protected (i.e. from government repercussions) speech. Hell, it wasn't that far removed from the administration's pre-evolution stand on gay marriage.

/undirected rant off

Solomon Had 700 wives, 300 concubines, and was Holy and beloved of Yahweh enough to build the First Temple.

The only problem was that many of his wives were followers of their own deities of their peoples, not Yahweh, and they convinced their husband to build temples to their Gods, making the God of the Israelites angry since he was having to coexist with other deities and not pretend to be the only God.

So, basically, polygamy is allowed, but only if you are marrying wives of the same faith.

The issue really isn't the fact that the owner said anti-gay remarks, more that the company actively donates to hate groups such as the AFA. That is the problem.

The funny thing is Barack Obama had the exact same stand on gay marriage as Chick-Fil-A when he was running in Illinois. So maybe this Cathy guy should just say he's "evolved" from his marriage stance and all of this will go away.

I for one am outraged that the owner of a crappy food restaurant espouses the same opinion on gay marriage that Barak Obama did four years ago.

Obama made some money by selling his books to people. Did he go around giving the money from the book sales to groups whose purpose is to prolong apartheid against gays? Did he do so while proudly proclaiming it?

if to get food (or anything) we had to agree with everyone in a company there would be mighty slim pickings in the country let alone the world.Or does anyone think that by purchasing said items you are voting for their beliefs?

I wonder how this is going to impact the upcoming College Football Season? The Disney Co. Must be spitting nails at this point. The anchor sponsor for college football on ESPN, this ought to be good.

I don't care that the CEO has a shiatty opinion. He can say he eagerly awaits the Fourth Reich if he wants to.

I do care that he's been giving the company's money to hate groups like AFA, Exodus International and FoF.

That is what this kerfuffle is about. I won't support those groups directly or indirectly, so I won't give Chik-Fil-A the revenue money with which to do that.

You are giving them money with which they will pay lobbying groups to work within our government to continue oppression and persecution of people who were born gay.

So yes, in a very real and literal sense, you are voting for their beliefs.

Quoted for Truth.

And this is why Citizen's United ruling was such a complete disaster. Business is no longer done "at arm's length" by "rational actors", politics becomes a very real influence in the transaction. I'm not just talking about the boycotters either, there's a reaction among the reactionaries to go out of their way to eat at Chik-Fil-A to "stand up for Christian rights".
