martissimo: make me some tea: We were thinking about changing things up with FARK parties a bit. Like instead of meeting first at a bar and staying there, meeting at a museum, or a zoo or a movie or something, then going for drinks after. Some people don't really drink much (or at all) so they might get more out of that sort of gathering.

Just an idea.

Check out a place called "The Cliff" it's on PCH in Laguna Beach, it has an indoor bar, a a outdoor restaraunt, and a lot of places in a small plaza area, with art galleries and shops and stuff, a little something for everyone, even outdoor firepit type things if the weather needs it at night, neat area

Boycott "The Cliff" until they bring the "Subsonix" back on Thursdays

Or, you could do it in a place that was interesting, diverse, or had some culture.

But that would exclude all of Orange County, wouldn't it?

Ha! I uh..

Except for garden grove and Anaheim.

katemonster: Irvine Spectrum is a pretty easy area to get to from pretty much anywhere, and I don't think that counts as south county.

Also, if we do it on a Saturday is north-ish county, I'll probably hit up Knotts Berry Farm earlier in the day if anyone wants to join. You can get coupons for cheap day passes from Ralphs and various stores.

I'll go. I go to Knotts almost every Saturday with my son from about 10:00-noon. We hit about 15 rides with no lines and then we go across the street to Soak City. I've been trying to get to a Fark party for almost ten years. Some time maybe someone could plan a Friday one? I always have the kid on Saturdays.

Dang! I'm going to be at the Blues Brews n' BBQ thingy at the Fullerton Arboretum that night. I was bummed I missed out on the last OC Fark party and told myself I wouldn't miss the next one. Aah well.

All points South of Tustin seem to pride themselves on being boring pre-planned cookie cutter neighborhoods. I don't get it and it's not my bag, really, but it works for some folk. General rule is the more North you travel in the county, the less homogeneous and more interesting and diverse it gets.

I remember drinking quite a few beers outside Irvine Lanes and the roller rink when it was still sitting there in high school.

You all should go to the Iron Mule, though I think.

Gyrfalcon: Oo, where?

Boomers with the arcades, mini golf, batting cages, go kart thingees and boat rides and mini amusement park rides as well as a climbing wall and right dab on the same lot as Irvine Lanes. Both right off the 405 and not to far from the 55. Commercial area so not too much traffic, plus it's Irvine so not too much traffic. So it might even be the most kid friendly Fark Party yet.

I'm there. I'm no bowler, but I'll always go drop balls on people's feet.

That sounds dirtier than I meant it to.

Awesome! Fark party 5 mins from home...color me there!

2012-08-13 07:10:56 PM
I should also mention that my goal all along was to arouse a community to action, A community that I knew, was already there, and to facilitate other SoCal (and beyond) Fark parties in the future, I won't always have time, school is starting soon, the Next one GWsuperfan and I have planned is in Halloween most likely in Oceanside.

I'm very fond of both of the hosts. Funny and charming folks they are.

I certainly would be there (where ever it is) if I were in the neighborhood.

Have fun kids. stay safe. And as importantly, stay foxy.

2012-08-13 09:12:00 PM
Right down the street from campus... as a relatively unknown Fark-liter, my partner and I may show up, not announce ourselves, and drink/bowl the night away in parallel.

Note to non-locals: The boomers is dirty as all hell. Don't bother. And had this been set for a Tuesday, there would have been Food Trucks out in the parking lot.

The reason I have it on Saturday is that people work and Tuesday is a school/ work night, I'm willing to do a Friday party to mix it up, food trucks would have been really nice.

I suppose that's the whole point: to meet and socialize with a bunch of people whom you may or may not know from the site. Nobody at the LA party last month knew me before then, and chances are that they've already forgotten. It was still fun, though.

/yeah right, who would ever forget a face like mine? :)

Just FYI, folks- I took my free bowling pass to the local alley this evening and bowled a 136 as my warm-up. I need to get into the consistent 165-175 range in the next two weeks.

Sucking at bowling is half the fun, you sound like a cast member of The Big Lebowski, and it ain't Jeff Bridges

Ahh I don't really mean that just a touch drunk this evening, ohhh hell yeah I mean it, nah no I don't you bastard, just don't pee on my rug

/getting awfully close to Shabbos too

Get your mind out of the gutter. That range includes the number 169.

I'm a sh*te bowler, but this sounds fun!

/If I'm not dead on my feet from work and school.
//Also new to SoCal.

Bowling! I'm so there.

Getting better with practice. I rolled a 170 today. Yay for 25-cent games at the local alley.

I'm terrible at bowling but I think I'll be there.

Tziva: I'm terrible at bowling but I think I'll be there.

I think that's part of the fun. I've never even cracked 100 at bowling, but there's something liberating about just not caring. I'm guessing this will be GWSuperfan's game to lose.

At first I thought "holy crap, that's cheap," but then I thought, that's a great idea to get people in the doors. I've read that bowling alleys have been declining in popularity over the last decade or so. Sometimes offering a loss leader as a promotion is good for business, so I can see why they might be doing it. I only wish the one around where I grew up had thought of something like that before closing up shop.

I did marathon bowling tonight- 13 games. (it was $20 all-you-can-bowl)

Average: 172
High Game: 211
Low game: 143

Dave & Busters at the Irvine Spectrum would be a viable option. Don't know if I'm actually going to go though.

Dave & Busters seems like it'd be a bad idea for a group of strangers many of whom had just met. You're running around D&B now you gotta find your unfamiliar group members again.

Yeah it is.... the latecomers to this thread will just have to deal with bowling.

/still should come though, even if you're not bowlers. I know I'm not.

Sounds fun. So what's the plan? Do people just show up and get a game going, or will someone have reserved a lane? Never been there, so I don't know how busy the place gets on Saturday nights.
