We were thinking about changing things up with FARK parties a bit. Like instead of meeting first at a bar and staying there, meeting at a museum, or a zoo or a movie or something, then going for drinks after. Some people don't really drink much (or at all) so they might get more out of that sort of gathering.

Just an idea.

I might be in, depending on where. I am potentially serving on a federal jury in that time though (hopefully not), so we'll see.

The Santa Ana zoo has a huge collection of ring tailed lemurs.

And also a very grouchy emu.

Just sayin'.

How about South County. Taco Surf in Dana Point or Casa Ranchero in Ladera Ranch have nice outdoor areas..

I'm sort of in. I'll get there late, I am going to see the Del McCoury band in Irvine that night.

Given that I'm coming up from Oceanside, South County is cool with me.

Thanks for the headsup on that. It's appreciated.

I could be back home in HB that week!

2012-07-30 10:15:57 PM
South county is a little too far for me.

I vote for some place in HB, Costa Mesa or Newport, for the purely selfish reasons of being able to crash at the family beach house afterwards without the long drive home.

Oh crap a party I have even less excuses not to go to

Keep me posted on deets

Hey there west coast Farkers.... I'm moving from NYC to Orange County for a new job in about a week. I know absolutely no one out there.

Hopefully by the time this Fark Party rolls around I'll have gotten over the culture shock and be ready to attend and grab a beer or two with you guys. A friendly face or two (even one I've never actually seen) is always welcome when adjusting to a new part of the country!

Slater's 50/50 in Huntington Beach? Various beers on tap and burgers made from 50% ground beef and 50% bacon.

You should hit the goat hill tavern. Perfect dive bar with good beer selection for a Fark party, with smoking under a covered patio (since it's your birthday and all).

Check out a place called "The Cliff" it's on PCH in Laguna Beach, it has an indoor bar, a a outdoor restaraunt, and a lot of places in a small plaza area, with art galleries and shops and stuff, a little something for everyone, even outdoor firepit type things if the weather needs it at night, neat area

Check out the the Bruery. http://www.thebruery.com/
Great hand crafted beers, good location for OC, IE and LA. Even if this isn't the party location, I totally recommend it.

It's a bit far for me from north county, but a beachside party sounds awesome! I'm in.

Screw these foodie joints. John's Incredible Pizza in the BP Mall. Get your dose of multiculturalism along with an all you can eat pizza bar. Sounds like Fark to me.

The beers are nom but theres not a lot of seating there.

Anyway, I'll see you the Bruery and raise Bootleggers. Also not much seating, but oh that Knucklesandwich DIPA.

I hate suggest this but Dave abd Busters at t the Irvine Spectrum would be good for parking, seating and giving the nortk county and LA people a break.

I always picture a fark party as three pathetically lonely guys siting in some empty bar and talking about their Star Trek action figures collections.

Went to the Danny K's party a few years back, that was cool. Someplace sizable is a good idea. I love Slater's 50/50, but it's always too damn crowded and we'd never find parking (same goes for the one in Anaheim Hills).

That said, I work for the County and am all over, so I'll toss out some suggestions that have decent hours, good beer selections, and can accommodate a spontaneous large crowd

Nah, we're all pretty civil when we're meeting each other. It's not like a politics thread or anything.

And Labor Day is the next weekend...August 25th will be fine for pretty much any city

I may come down from Ventura County again.

But, like an old lady in diapers, it Depends...

Hey, if it's at the D&B at the Irvine Spectrum, I'll show :D

...mainly because it's on my bus route and I have work that night. Would have to leave at like 7:30 or so.

Would also suggest BJ's Brewery off of El Toro Road, although frankly I'd want to drag everyone to the sushi place at the mall nearby. Rotating sushi bar with fairly good sushi, $2 a plate.

Having an Orange County Fark party in Anaslime is like having an LA one in South Central.

There's a nice BJs by the Balboa pier in Newport and you can rent kayaks or take a harbor cruise or even take a ferry over to Catalina before the party. There's bars for the drunks and another set on PCH. I took some family out a couple of weeks ago and the Google solar powered catamaran was in the harbor so that was cool. The PIMCO guys and the Broadcom and other tech guys have huge yachts in the harbor so you can see what the .0000000000001% live like.

If Newport gives people rashes then there's a bar crawl on Main Street a block up from the beach and a nice hotel, The Strand, one block over with a total of a dozen bars or more as well as a BJs, an Avila, and a Sushi joint called Tuna Town in Huntington Beach. And there is beach.

Come up with a final location and I will beg and plead the boyfriend to take me!

1) It's the middle of summer. You cannot park anywhere near Balboa reliably. It's just not feasible.
2) Downtown HB isn't much better, plus too many bros.

Be better off having the fark party at Taco Mesa at this point

Personally I'd like to see north OC, as it makes it easier for people coming from LA or the IE (such as myself) to get to. As for locale, I like the idea of a non-bar-maybe take over Steamer's (best live jazz venue in SoCal, and decent food, with some boozeahol available) or Knowlwood's in downtown Fullerton, or if a bar is a necessity do Hero's-something like 100+ beers on tap and food that is greasy, but amazingly good, with portions that could feed a small third world country.

Or, y'know, BJ's on Imperial in Brea. That works too :P

The Balboa beach parking empties at 5 when the families go home, the HB city parking structure never fills and neither does the underground one under the Strand and there is a 7 mile long beach lot that starts a block away.

Never been anywhere on this planet that had a dearth of assholes, have you?

The Taco Mesa on 19th street across from the DMV in little TJ has a burro entrance but no burro exit, just sayin.

I'm down for an OC adventure with the denizens of FARK. Being Tustin/Irvine adjacent I'm cool with where ever but it would be nice to find a joint that has a little ambiance as opposed to settling for the masses of chain establishments in our lovely garden of strip malls.

That said, I'll happily recommend the Tustin Brewery. The local beers are range from nice to ok and they host Russian River brews from time to time.
