Hardly. But the solution is to de-militarize the police, not fill your basement full of ammo.

The police have a combined budget in the billions. Your average redneck militia loon has a budget of whatever a Jiffy Lube mechanic makes. It's an arms race you just aren't going to win.

I'm not so sure about that. According to Alex Jones, James Holmes spent $20,000 on an AR-15, a Remington 870, and two 40 caliber Glocks. That's just one guy. And that adds up, let me tell you.

So now you think it was the police? but wait, I thought it was the military like you have been defending retardsubmitter.

Watch out for the Anarchist's Cookbook, it's got a lot of finger-endangering errors.

There are a lot better manuals out there. I've got a Wyle explosives synthesis manual in the work library that's pretty good, but there are also some really nice books for making basics (and some pretty advanced) on Amazon, using stuff you can find on the intertube. Fark HQ typically doesn't like posting the details. But there are some online vendors who sell the precursors to some really versatile stuff. Not sure if they're honeypots, though, one of the sites is run by a guy who used to be agency. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances, I always say.

Corvus: Do you know the difference between the military and the police? Yes or no?

Well, funny thing about that. I used to know the difference. See, there was a time when it was easy to tell cops from soldiers in America - cops wore caps and ties, carried small sidearms, and drove normal cars with lights on the roof; soldiers wore helmets and boots, carried rifles and small artillery, and drove armored personnel carriers. These days, though, I'm not always so sure, and while I appreciate precision in language as much as anyone, under the circumstances I can excuse the error.

There is nothing to "win" in Afghanistan. They don't have a real, functional central government, they never have.

Afghanistan is pretty much just about the only inhabited place on the globe that has never been conquered. The Mongols couldn't do it. Caesar couldn't do it. Napoleon couldn't do it. The USSR at the height of their Cold War powers couldn't do it.

It has NEVER been done. Why would some jackasses in government think that we could?

They didn't. There is nothing to win there. All we can do is keep pouring money down the gaping maw of government contractors until we get finally get sick of it.

TFA talks about "person of color." Yet I remember back on the 80s, calling somebody a "colored person" was bad even though the NAACP had "colored person" in its name. What is the difference? The phrasing? "Colored person" is no good, but "person of color" is OK?

Yes, a bunch of redneck militia loons with a Jiffy Lube mechanic's income can still virtually halt a well-equipped modern army as long as they have the right to bear arms. They stopped the well-equipped modern armies of several nations, actually.

So I guess the right really does want to turn the US into a third-world hellhole, eh?

If you think a state of perpetual, unwinnable war where they kill 100 of your guys for every 3 of theirs you get is preferable to some hypothetical Obama military dictatorship....well then you're probably the kind of person I usually don't bother talking to online.

According to the "experts" on Fark, I'm the libbiest lib to ever lib a lib, and even I gotta say: "Grenade launcher"? Really? How about we stick with some semblance of journalistic integrity and call it something remotely resembling what it's actually being used for in the picture at hand?

It's a freaking tear gas launcher, and it's SUPPOSED to be there. I have zero problem with the police being PREPARED for large scale violence. If they had used it inappropriately, I'd be the first one screaming for their heads on pikes. But until they use it inappropriately, let's let them be prepared, and let's call things what they actually are, ok?

(Seriously, do we call all Tomahawk cruise missiles "nuclear weapons"? No, we don't. Because it's freaking stupid.)

dookdookdook: ZipSplat: We've been in Afghanistan for 11 years and we still haven't won. The only reason we "won" in Iraq was because the people there wanted to move on with some semblance of cooperation.

This isn't a left-right, Obama-Romney thing. I'm one of those left-leaning people who want universal healthcare, and also think state laws against owning automatic weapons should be ruled unconstitutional.

The Second Amendment is intended - to the chagrin of a lot of people willing to read it like a gay-hating, foreskin-loving religionist might read the Old Testament - to make the people a viable opponent against invasion and internal oppression. There have been many "pax Americana" periods in our history where the right to be armed has been unimportant. Right now it is unimportant. There is no 'Nazi-Socialisty takeover' or powerful foreign aggressor. The world is relatively stable.

We've been around for about 240 years, depending on when you want to start counting. We've had two world wars that have thankfully remained overseas, a civil war and a few invasions, and several incidents of domestic unrest. What's going to happen in the next 240 years? Are you imagining that it's going to be as stable as it is right now? That there will be no more contention going forward?

The Second Amendment is not yours to give away in 2012 just because Republicans are distasteful. People with appropriate small arms and training can act as a pretty viable deterrent to an aggressive military or police action, and you can really fark them up as well if they decide to not be deterred. One of the motherfarkers about being an invader is that you don't necessarily get to choose when, where, and on what terms combat will take place. It's one of those things that makes guerrillas and insurgents so hard to beat.

Corvus: 404 page not found: Corvus: Answer: Calling city police the US military

I have answered it many times already. So do you disagree?

You have said we don't know they are police. -- You were wrong. They are police.

Then you pretended the words "para-military" meant they were part of the military. That is wrong too.

Where did I call city police the US military?

Epistemology, motherfarker, how does it work? Prove they are police. I never said they weren't. You are the one asserting that they are. So prove your assertion.

I never pretended anything about the "words 'para-military'", I merely asked you for your definition.

I answered your question, now you answer mine.

Do you agree with the submitters headline, or do you agree with me that he is wrong?

I suppose you'll take this personal, but I'll answer your question as soon as submitter outs himself. For all I know, you're the submitter and I'll be goddamned if I get trolled this hard by some piece-of-shiat submitter linking to HuffPo. Go fark yourself.

/or else you're a modmin on a mission
//in that case, good day sir

Which I just don't get. The fact that it CAN be loaded with something doesn't mean it IS that thing, especially when we have ample evidence that it's NOT that thing in the evidence provided.

As I said earlier, it's like calling Tomahawk cruise missiles "nuclear weapons" just because they CAN be loaded with nuclear warheads.

TFA talks about "person of color." Yet I remember back on the 80s, calling somebody a "colored person" was bad even though the NAACP had "colored person" in its name. What is the difference? The phrasing? "Colored person" is no good, but "person of color" is OK?

No...that is a troll.

Warning: he means business. he'll farkie you!

Cry moar, biatch.

Oh God NO! What's next? A Double Secret Farkie?

I DID just add whiny as an adjective.

My parents will be so disapoint. This won't show up on my permanent record, will it?

It certainly will. They will be disappointed that you can't spell.

I would load a giant poop in it and call it a poop launcher.

I don't understand why this requires the submitter outing himself. The headline is very obviously wrong when it uses the term "military" instead of "police" but after you switch out that one word, it's an accurate headline.

Can we all agree that the one word "military" should read "police" instead and be happy?

I knew what you were saying. You still missed a 'p'. Disapoint is not a word.
