Ow, stop at "rights". "FreedomS" is becoming one of those words I want to ban, like heartwarming, socialism, and "ripped from today's headlines".

People have been locked up for being gay in the past.

And if certain people and groups in this country have their way, it would happen again.

Yep, scary what some people want this country to be. It's like take McCarthyism and you ain't seen nothing, yet.

I think we might have to change McCarthyism to Bachmannism.

And unfortunately, one of Michele Bachmann's merry band of congressional idiots, Tom Rooney, is now my congressperson thanks to redistricting in Florida.

That sucks. There are only 5 of them and 1 of them is yours. I have been redistricted into all Republican districts so I understand you totally.

I live Bama so no hope, all the politicians are crazy here, and people keep electing them because they bring in military dollars.

I live in Wisky but I have been redistricted into all Republican districts. I am going to vote for Tammy Baldwin HARD!

Phew, just breathed a sigh of relief. Checked the district maps and they've renumbered the districts, just haven't updated which congressperson represents the newly numbered districts. Idiot Rooney isn't my new representative after all.

By the way, thought it would interest you. My old rep is a lesbian and she is now winning against every Republican according to Rasmussen. I love Tammy Baldwin.

Let's not, he'd end up against the wall as well as I'm sure he has in many public bathrooms only to get shot in a different way.
I mean ask Röhm how that worked out.

I am not sure what you mean. I was speaking of Joseph McCarthy, an awful person.

Sorry misunderstood I guess, I thought that you meant Bachman was the new paradigm as in if your gay get married to the opposite sex and deny everything, which if you watch the movie Outrage it's not far from the truth.

I've been following her race a little bit, it's good to see her succeeding. Maybe by the time I might decide to make a run for office being an out politician won't be newsworthy.

I follow it closely. I have voted for her every time but she is a Madison rep so it really has nothing to do with the rest of the state. However, she started off getting killed by the Republicans but now she is beating every single one of them. Go Tammy!

Don't Gallup polls tend to skew a bit to the right, or is that not the case? Anyway, a new poll shows Bill Clinton, who will be placing Obama's name in nomination at the convention, as having a 66% favorable rating in the country. Wonder who does the deed for Romney at the GOP convention?

Nate Silver has Gallup skewing to the right by 3% this time around. That is something since he only has Rasmussen leaning right by 1.5. So...Gallup is the furthest to the right.

I post on a religious LGBT message board and I couldn't believe how many people were convinced that the outing of that anti-gay Atlantic blogger guy was wrong, even though people like him are why those same posters have been chased out of the churches they grew up in. Maybe they're better Christians than I am, but I think that if you're a disgusting bigot you shouldn't expect the protection and silence of the LGBT community.

The real question is whether Michele Bachmann is just one of those repressed fundamentalist housewives who doesn't care that her husband isn't into her as long as she can maintain her shoe budget or whether it's one of those double bearding situations that ex-gay ministries are so fond of getting their clients into. I mean, normal heterosexual women don't hide behind bushes to spy on gay rights protests or flip out over encountering lesbians in a public restroom, do they?

I can't believe he hasn't been caught getting farked by now. That guy is gayer than Alan Cumming sucking off John Travolta.

I'm sure lot's of people know it's just really taboo about outing people even if there disgusting bigots.

The guy makes his money by "fixing" gays. I am thinking he deserves being outed.

If you haven't seen it, the movie Outrage I linked the trailer up thread is worth the watch, it deals with that, and it is starting to happen.

I think it is obvious. She is frigid and found a guy that wouldn't screw her.

I think it is wrong to out someone minding their own business. Those that make their living off of being anti-gay? Holy shiat, blast them.

Yeah, I'd never out someone who is just living their life and not bothering anyone, that's a horrible and traumatic thing to do to someone. If they're publicly anti-gay and actively working to harm the LGBT community, all bets are off.

Well, it's kind of the middle of the night and nobody's really in the thread so I don't think anybody's going to care. In a nutshell, I don't believe that all of the fundamentalist anti-gay stuff is actually compatible with the teaching of Christ. I put the anti-gay stuff in the same category as the lectures against alcohol, tattoos, and rock music that I used to hear from my childhood Sunday School teachers. In other words, it's part of a long list of stuff that people twisted scripture to oppose because they're authoritarian followers who can't function without a long list of rules.

No need for the quizzical look, there are lots of LGBT people who are also people of faith. More than a few of them come looking for advice and support because they grew up in fundamentalist families and have baggage to deal with because of that. Just because they're attracted to the same sex doesn't mean their faith goes out the window and there's no reason it should just because the fundamentalists have colossally bad hermeneutics.

Well that's cool, as I said I've had friends married in the church, MCC, and I'm not anti-christian, granted I am more pagan agnostic these days.

Yeah, if I get the time I'll check those out, I've got so much reading to do, and that's not even counting law school starting up again.

Speaking of books though, I'd highly recommend The Authoritarians. Reading that and reading about the dynamics of how authoritarian followers react to people who aren't authoritarian followers but also aren't leaders shed so much light on so many of the issues I'd had with fundamentalists growing up.

I see. Well, I suppose it's not oxymoronic (firefox spellchecker fails to recognize a word yet again) if you're doing a personal relationship with spirituality/god/etc thing.
I was thinking gays had a subforum to separate them from the "real" followers or whatever.

It's not realistic to people to throw religion away so readily, so I guess LGBT religious message boards aren't that bad.

The perception that gays [should be/are] less religious than other groups is pretty indicative of how homosexuality has been tied to a certain type of culture through politics. I don't have the statistics, but I don't think it reflects reality well.

Weaver95: I just don't see how 'gay marriage' is a conservative issue. it's not costing us any money, it's not hurting anyone, it's definitely not the job of government to get involved in anyone's lifestyle choices...it's just NOT a conservative issue.

Their philosophy is that too much social change in the last 50 years has somehow crippled our cohesion and general moral center (in other words, "harmless" social changes lead to the commission of more crime because it reduces the authority of and respect for the law). They have little evidence for this, but they genuinely believe it. At the extremes, they believe that a nation that does not base its laws on the morality of traditional Protestantism incurs the wrath of God, who had made this country great and prosperous until we let women control their own destinies and stopped locking up the gays.

Of course what they really mean is that they think equal access will diminish their white privilege.

I think if anything, if gays are less religious than the national average, it's a function of how many of us got tossed out of fundamentalist churches as victims of the culture wars. I lucked out, the church I grew up in folded due to the economic downturn before I got the chance to come out. I fully expect that despite being the model member and an elder's kid, I would have gotten excommunicated--because they love me and want me to turn from my wicked ways, of course.

It irks me how fundies pervert their own religion.

Perhaps all those black eyes the gay community got from Democrats while crying "But he really loves me" over the years have been worth it. Democrat has gone to therapy and is really sorry about all that.
