They should develop an algae to be deposited subcutaneously which would symbiotically provide us with photosynthetic nutrients to reduce the amount of caloric and vitamin intake required

If the US didn't give food aid and food to other countries, would we really see much higher prices and be worrying about overpopulation? There would probably be closer to 3 billion people in the world instead of 7 right now.

/might sound mean, but deal with it.

Considering how Sonic's been in some pretty sh*tty games of late, I wouldn't be surprised to see him flipping burgers down the road. He's a has-been in denial.

Meh, I spent a year raising mealworms for food as a mini-experiment. They're good deep fried or in stir-fry. Deep fried, they have the texture of unflavored Cheetos.

We need a good old fashioned PLAGUE to wipe out half of the worlds population to have enough for 2032.

Just being realistic.

Is the question really "what will we be eating in 2032?", or is it "what will poor people in overpopulated countries be eating in 2032?"

You can have my bacon when you pry it from my cold, dead, morbidly obese hands.

I'd eat the lab-grown meat, but given how people responded to the "pink slime," that almost certainly won't be an option. Of course, neither will any of the other options in the article, which is kind of the point.

/no it won't result in improved behavior
//it will instead result in fingerpointing, and eventually all-out war, long before anyone starts seriously eating bugs

Um, what does the flavor have to do with texture?

I would say artificial chicken, steak and pork would really help. But not using Soy because that screws up a lot of people.

Quorn and the like are the precursors of future food. Very soon they will perfect vat grown meat, fed on algae and nutrients. Some kind of fungus is likely to be the bulk of our protein soon.

Anyone who seriously believes a population growing the way ours is can survive on meat instead of on the food that we feed to the meat is high.

I don't know about 2032... Will we still have soup kitchens then, or will the Republicans decide we shouldn't have them? I'm thinking that by that time, I will probably be eating at the soup kitchens on a regular basis, with some occasional dumpster diving just to throw in some variety.

4 or 5 of us get together for a local butcher to divide up a side of beef every year or so.
Now I'm wondering how far out I can reserve a cow....

[slight threadjack]
Buy a whole steer now, or at least in the next few months. The low corn and soy harvest this summer means ranchers and farmers are dumping their cattle, poultry and pigs into the market, so prices are low. Sometime before the holiday season prices will star rising sharply, though as the reduced supply is felt, and could easily climb 50% or more. If we have a decent crop next year, prices will drop back to normal, but if you've stocked up you won't even feel the price hike.

Don't we already get bugs in most of our food?

And I'd be more worried about where we're going to get our water in 20 years.
