Poland, the reason your submarines keep sinking is cultural. America may be very rich, but anyone can do what we do with enough grit and tenacity. Sure, your submarine budget is like $75 and a Subway Club card, but it's your culture that insists on installing those screen doors.

It doesn't exist on its own in a vaccuum. Cultures are also complex and often contradictory. Just like the people who make it and live it. To say one is inferior is to then say those people are inferior.

It doesn't say that at all. Of course, people would view their cultures as superior to different ones. After all, it is their culture that helps define societal norms. While we might be shocked a culture would force women to cover from head to toe, they are likely shocked that we are so permissive.

So you're saying that if someone from Canada, Japan or somewhere else insulted your culture and said it was inferior, you wouldn't be offended? You'd be fine with that?

Who gives a fark if someone is insulted? If I someone told you you're ugly, you'd probably be insulted. Would your offense impact the veracity of the statement?

In international diplomacy, insulting people as Romney did is frowned upon.

Mittens has no idea wtf he's doing. This isn't about him. This conversation is about whether culture A can be inferior to culture B. Of course it can.

Please rank the following cultures in order of superiority:

United States
France
Canada
Bolivia
Australia
Israel
Palestine
Jordan
Japan
Russia

doesn't work that way. I'd say US culture is superior to Palestinian culture but trailing Canadian and Australian culture though in large part they are quite similar. I am not aware of a mathematical system that ranks cultures.

You had a whole list of things that defined your notions of cultural superiority previously. I would have thought that someone who is as devoted to the notion of cultural superiority as you are would have thought through these kinds of comparisons in the past.

Do you agree with Romney that US culture is superior to Mexican culture?

Why are you making this hard? Your culture score is a function of wonders you've built, and the overall cultural output of each of your cities, along with any bonuses from great persons.

Seriously. It's not difficult.

404 page not found: Philip Francis Queeg: skullkrusher: Philip Francis Queeg: But let's take you art your world, and believe that you are comparing cultures in some meaningful way. Since you think the US culture is superior to Mexican culture, do you believe that you should be spreading American culture and displacing Mexican culture? Should Mexican culture be limited or eliminated in the US?

I don't think the negative aspects of Mexican culture are ingrained in US culture in any meaningful way so no. We practice (or at least support) cultural imperialism all the time. Who doesn't want to see every resident of every country treated as an equal human being worthy of respect and dignity? We aren't perfect in this regard but we are far better than many places in the world - who wouldn't want to see these western cultural values as such they are exported to a place like Rwanda?

And of course you'd fully support Canadian and Australian cultural imperialism missions in the US to fix our inferior culture once we stamp out the inferior Mexican culture.

Which culture so you think should ultimately be supreme?

MINE. Obviously.

some cultures are superior to others. Not sure how that translates to relative economic success but a culture which stones women to death for having an affair is inferior to one which does not. A culture which exalts superstition over science is inferior to one governed by reason and logic.
A culture which destroys the artifacts of the past is inferior to one which preserves them. A culture which revels in narrowmindedness and provincialism is inferior to one which regards the world openly and inquisitively. A culture which promotes war over peace? Inferior. Get the idea?

So you are saying that Conservative culture is inferior? For once I think I agree with you.

Nadie_AZ: Shrugging Atlas: Jairzinho: In before his campaign says Mitt's words were taken out of context despite of the full context being available in the reports.

You're way, way too late for that my friend. But to be fair they probably have that response so well practiced by now it's second nature.

UPDATE: NBC's Garrett Haake, traveling with the campaign, reports from Gdansk, Poland, that senior Romney campaign strategist Stuart Stevens told reporters he takes issue with the story, calling it "completely manufactured," "sloppy," and even "invented."

He said the quote from Romney "revolves around an observation the governor has made in his book" and "mentioned in big speeches." The story, he claims, "never should have been written, was not handled responsibly and the Romney campaign was never called for comment. The economic situations for prosperity are interesting to study and important. "

He added that the comments were "not in any way an attempt to slight the Palestinians, and everyone knows that." And he even goes so far as to say: "It is regrettable whenever a story is handled improperly and I think we all agree on that."

Like I said in another thread, I find that quote hilarious. "He said it, sure, but it was in a big speech, and you didn't ask us to comment on the story that you shouldn't have been writing about anyway."

/he also has a secret plan to fight inflation

The more I learn about Mittens and see how he acts, I don't think the expression "born on third base/hit a triple" applies to him. It seems like the expression should be altered to: "Born on third base, thinks he hit a home run."

Most people who were born on third base realize there is still work to be done to make it to home base. Mitt thinks he is already there and that all this campaigning is just a formality, hence he is just phoning it in/acting like a fool. He doesn't think it matters because he is supposed to be president, regardless of anything else.

2) Retroactively supports NOT bombing the country he supported bombing the day before
