To be followed next week by a report saying it will reduce costs.

This game is getting tiring.

Obamacare is what the Republicans proposed for health care reform finally enacted

/are you suggesting they were lying about it when they proposed it, too?

2012-07-30 12:01:36 PM
It's funny, because if you read the actual letter from the CBO to Boehner, it's all about how the House Bill 6079 (for the repeal of the ACA) would increase federal deficits by 109 billion dollars.

So, I guess, it's all about how The Examiner spins it.

Raising revenue to cover expenses? What sort of communism is that?

2012-07-30 12:36:13 PM

The article that cites as a source actually DOESN'T SAY THAT.

Letter to the "Honorable" John Boehner providing an estimate for H.R. 6079,
the Repeal of Obamacare Act
...

Specifically, we estimate that H.R. 6079 would reduce direct spending by $890 billion and reduce revenues by $1 trillion between 2013 and 2022, thus adding $109 billion to federal budget deficits over that period.

Reduce revenues in the form of a tax break .

You know, I never understood why the stereotype/phrase "tax and spend liberal" was supposed to be an insult. Isn't that the way you're supposed to do it? Isn't that the fiscally correct policy?

2012-07-30 12:38:07 PM
Didn't the CBO change their estimate from costing us 900 billion to something like 1.8 trillion a couple months ago?

So health care costs will go down...but we make up for it by paying more taxes?

Do they teach political math in school?
Is cop math a pre req?

2012-07-30 12:38:15 PM
so people that were not paying any money to receive health care are now paying money to receive health care and this is a bad thing?

2012-07-30 12:38:17 PM
Republicans really seem to not understand this simple math, do they:

Deficit/Surplus = REVENUE - Spending

BORROW and spend is the fiscal conservative way. After all, Reagan proved deficits don't matter. Dick said so.

My favorite part is how the cbo has to continue counting all that savings to Medicare, yet no plan to reduce Medicare costs has actually been devised yet.

Yes, the cbo scoring sheet can be gamed, more at 10.

Well it's better plan then the cut taxes and spend even MORE that Romney and Republicans usually purpose.

Remember Romney wants to hugely increase defense spending the largest part of the discretionary budget.

One would think, yes. However I think the spin on it is that dirty libs just keep taxing and spending more and more and never cut anything. Which, in all honesty, probably wouldn't be too far off from the truth if conservatives weren't around to push cutbacks (see, I can be fair sometimes). But at least we pay for what we spend, even if it might be too much.

No plans to reduce Medicare costs?

What about all those "cuts to Medicare" that republicans start howling about every time they're in front of old people, without a hint of irony?

"Keep your government hands off of my medicare" continues to be a thing that people actually say.

The GOP has managed to harness the natural selfishness that runs deep in this country.

The first notable open-resistance to the American government was over the Whiskey Tax back during Washington's administration.

Like now, people hated paying taxes. Like now, they threatened to get violent over it.

Back then, they actually did it, though.

Washington suited up, rode out and they all ran away long before he got into town.

Americans hate to pay for a civilized society. They're mostly children who think that governing and maintaining a First World nation are both naturally easy and cost no money. Taxes are theft and the government is evil.

Like I said. Most Americans are children.

In 40 years time you'll have an "Obamacare" tribute at the Chicago Olympics, shaking your heads at all the nonsense the right spouted over why letting people be sick and tied to jobs from fear of losing benefits was good for you all :)

According to the 2010 report from the Journal of Accountancy, this tax hits "high-income tax payers" - individuals making over $125,000 a year or households making over $250,000 a year.

Another $111 billion comes from the excise tax on high-premium insurance plans.

That's because Rupert Murdoch has won. All conservative rags need to do is hammer home that if it's not regularly praising GOPs and bashing Democrats, it must be because of liberal bias. And those who are NOT GOPs promptly crapped their pants and started doing things Murdoch's way, which just a touch of objective reporting or, as they continue to call it, liberal claptrap.

That estimate might be lower now, we got rid of our "cadillac plans" for the time being and switched to catastrophic plans with a high deductable.

Bully for me indeed. I even covered everyones deductable by putting an extra check in their envelope.

It was actually cheaper then the premiums I was paying for the awesome any doctor anywhere 10$ copay 100% hospitalization plan.

I;m saying that there are 68 people here who had a really good plan that would be taxed under the ACA, and we now no longer have that plan so there are 68 units of tax revenue the government is not recieving.

I don;t care enough to do any research but I would think many companies got rid of plans that would cost them even more money under the ACA.

you savy?

In 40 years the right will have remembered that it was their idea to begin with and believe that the goddamned liberals nearly used it to turn us into a Communist country. Bachmann's investigation into Muslim infiltration of the government is the only thing that stopped it.
